I should have trusted the bad reviews. The place had 2 other customers inside.$12.50 for the "buffet " cold sausage, cold pancakes, cold hard biscuits. I think it was bacon but it tasted like old pork grease and was cold and tough. The gravy was OK and they have a small amount of fresh melon and pineapple. Avoid this place. I hope I don't get sick later today.

2023: this is one of the places you can eat if you are staying at the Kilauea military camp lodge inside Volcanos National Park Hawaii. You order from the lady at the register. They serve breakfast and dinner and are closed in between. When your meal is ready they will call your number. Drinks, ice cream, salads are included. The meal was pretty good for comfort food. I had the roast pork wish mashed potatoes, gravy and side of veggies. It is served in paper containers. This dining room is pretty run down with zero esthetics. But it was priced at a good value.

Expectation management: for breakfast it took about 45 minutes for our order of two scrambled egg breakfasts and a bagel with cream cheese. There was one cook and the cashier was bouncing back and forth between the two.Food: Eggs were ok nothing special. Portuguese sausage was pretty good, the bacon was overly crispy. The breakfast potatoes were cold.

Considering the location, pretty reasonable prices on the food. Specials depending on the day. We were staying on KMC on a Friday and Saturday so we had the fish and chips on Friday. On Saturday I had the teriyaki chicken and rice. Food was good! There is no waitress. You place your order at the cashier when you go in and you get a number on your receipt. When your food is ready, they call your number and you go pick it up from the chef. It was pretty busy on Friday night and the Cafe seemed a bit under staffed keeping up with the flow of people. But everyone was pleasant and all worked hard. Price includes salad and a drink. Overall I thought it was pretty good.

Most visitors to Volcano Park probably eat at Volcano House. We stumbled upon Crater Rim Cafe, part of military housing midway through our hike. What a find. The place was quiet, food was great. Coffee was the best I’ve had on the big island. Best of all prices were very reasonable. Lunch is only to 1 pm so plan accordingly.Vegetarian options: There was on vegetable option my husband had that he said was good.

Decent food and service. They don't have a lot of options for people with allergies and dietary issues though. This place have a school cafeteria vibe.

We found this place searching for a decent breakfast near to the park. Cafeteria style cafe, as written before me. Location and environment makes it better than in the images.Food was good (breakfast), hot and fresh, arriving fast, we found no problem with that.Service was slow, cashier was new, so had to ask another there. Interior is nothing special, at least plenty of space. During our visit, there were only a few other customer.Mood and vibe is between 3 and 4 halfway. Reminds me the old school trips, but nothing extra.Parking was easy in the early hours, and has enough parking slots in front and back as well.Could recommend for breakfast if visiting the Park, as other place in vicinity does not open that early, or have breakfast food.

Visiting from neighboring island and tried this place for a quick lunch. Inside is nice and very clean, gets hot inside quickly. Service was bad, food was extremely salty, i had the bbq Korean chicken and i couldn't eat 1 piece without gagging. The workers kept starring at us like we was doing somthing wrong, would not recommend this place to eat.

I think there was a change in staff and cooks because we would frequent this place quite often. We just went back this past Saturday and the prime rib was so so tiny compared to the previous times, a tiny scoop of instant mash and frozen vegetables. Definitely not worth the $28 dollars.

We were so excited for prime rib! Then after paying $28, I was allowed one slice! The sides were instant mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. Meat was great, but there us NO WAY this was worth $28.

Got the prime rib special for $27. Comes with smashed potatoes or white rice and veggies. Went with potatoes. They were cold and dry. Actually everything was cold. Steak was so rare we had to send it back. The veggies seemed like they were either canned or previously frozen. They were very soggy. This restaurant is cafeteria style so I didn't expect food to be made to order; however, I expected it to be hot. I didn't have high expectations for the food which was good because it wasn't good but the staff was really nice and made the experience better.

Didn't try the breakfast, so this is only about dinner service. Place is only open for dinner two nights a week. Limited menu options. Chow Hall layout. Price is high compared to mainland but about right for the area. It might be better when it returns to fill service.

Best bar in the Volcano area. Great drinks, great seating, and way cheaper drinks than anywhere else for miles. I've been going for a long time, and Lucretia and Christine always take good care of their patrons. I always try to go when they have live music.

We had breakfast here after spending the night in one of the KMC cabins. I had the a la carte ham and cheese omelette and a side of bacon. We had a great experience and the food was cheap. If you're expecting some amazing restaurant where you will be waited on hand and foot, this is not your place.
