Seems like a never-ending labyrinth of books! The friendliest staff and most amazing book availability for such a steal. Definitely one of the best local bookstores we’ve been whilst on vacation. Thank you to the two ladies who helped us out with our book selection!

We loved this place! It was so fun to see what they had and they really had a variety of international books and some Hawaii specific books too. I think in total we spent $3 between the two of us and got 5 books including foreign children's books, a Hawaiian dictionary, and a mystery novel. The people running the place were super friendly. It was just a fun experience.

Phenomenal service and prices. Such a hidden gem. The Pu'unene location is especially charming. And they will gladly check to see if they have a particular book you're looking for.

I used to love going here and donating a lot of new/gently used books. However, I lost my leg recently and was excited to get back to walking around places on my prosthetic so I thought why not visit and look around at some books. I parked close to the store bc I’m not great at walking on uneven surfaces yet. The two guys working the store today were so rude and said I wasn’t allowed to park before the logs. I approached them obviously physically disabled and said I can’t walk that far (couple 100 feet) and his idea of trying to help was offering to move my vehicle for me… I don’t know you why in the world should you move my vehicle. And there was literally no one else there and PLENTY of room to park… they said it’s because they are trying to plant grass, which besides being a waste of time out there, parking over it for 10-15 minutes would not hurt it whatsoever. We left immediately and not only were they rude towards my disability the one guy proceeded to move more logs almost blocking me in before we could even leave. It’s so sad people don’t have aloha anymore, and extremely sad how many people are unkind to the disabled, we have it hard enough. Anyone reading this I hope you spread some kindness and aloha today. And buy/donate your books somewhere else.

Off the beaten path. Follow the BOOKS signs. Ancient building is behind a 2-story, ancient-looking public school. Free magazines on the front porch. Aisles are very narrow. Lots of books and you might find something interesting. Dust from the Valley Isle settles on the books, so bring hand wipes or wear disposable gloves if you want to browse. Bargains here, if you take time and are open to finding the unexpected. Wear very casual clothing. No air-conditioning. Island humidity. And dust.

Friendly and helpful staff was a big help when searching the jam pack shelves of books. This location is off the beaten path but worth the visit because of its unique experience.

What a fabulous find this place is! Super friendly people, good selection of books and some sweet vinyl as well. Awesome prices, when you are done with your books just re donate them to this place and get some more! They also have great health measures in place so you can rest assured all is well. Be a good human, mask up and go get some great books for a great cause.

It was easy to find, just keep following the "BOOKS" signage while driving. Friendly staff, great quality books for the price, and very organized! Will shop again and advise those who have great books to donate to Maui Friends! What a blessing for knowledge! Mahalo!

This is such a fun little out of the way place. It used to be even better when the sugar Mill was running, and there was a smell if molasses in the air. Hidden in the middle of the sugar cane fields, it's almost like going back in time next to the old school. It's a small building fill of used books. If you are looking for something particular, you only won't find it, but if you love books, it's a great little find. Most all books are only 25 cents each, and every child gets to choose one free book.

They have a really wide selection and excellent prices. I found many sewing and craft books for a quarter a piece. The magazines out front are free and I saw many recent issues.

This is a wonderful little store tucked in the back of an old sugar cane factory. My GPS tried to take me through a gated Spanish Road on one side of the factory, but I was able to find access via S Puunene Ave on the other side of the factory. From this road there are "books" signs to follow to the building that houses the store. I'm sure I could spend hours in this store, but since we arrived a half hour before closing, I quickly chose a book, which was very reasonably priced at just $1. If you love books this is a charming little place to visit.

So many books and so incredibly inexpensive! We went here on our second day on Maui. We were thrilled with both the selection and the organization of the books. Everyone in our family of five found at least one book to enjoy while here. 👍

There were 2 men working in there. They were chatting with each other when I walked in. I excused myself and let them know I had a donation. They asked if only the two bags in my hands. No you have to drop off at our warehouse which happen to be right next door. We were having an issue with items in our truck at we were heading to the dump right after. He was waiting at the warehouse and rolls me I could walk the bags over since we were taking so long ( it was my grandson, my daughter and myself). I asked if he could help bring the books as they were heavy he just raised his hands in fustration. I was extremely disappointed in how we were treated, it felt like he was doing us a favor

A fun place to hunt for great books at stellar deals. I found some real gems from Patrick rothfuss, robert Jordan, and the malazan series all for under 10 bucks total. Could easily have left with the whole store.

If you like books this is the place. It's a bit out of the way but the volunteers are friendly and they have a great selection of cheap used books. Stop in and say hi. They also have a location at the Queen K Mall.

One of Maui’s best hidden secrets! Quite literally too, as it’s kinda hard to find. I recommend making sure you come here with ample time, as it can be very easy to get lost looking through their treasure trove of books. You never know what you will find here. Prices are fair, and they even have a section of books outside that are free! The ladies that volunteer here are very helpful and will help you find whatever youre looking for. They also have a bookstore at Queen Kaahumanu Center, but I will always love the old Maui Friends of the Library in Puunene. I hope they never close. Buy your books here and support local business. They also accept donations, and it’s a great way to get rid of the books that you no longer need!

I love out of the way gems like this. All proceeds go to the public library system, the staff are all volunteers and the used books are ridiculously cheap. Leave your change or donate a little extra!
