We did the Haleakala sunrise bike tour and it was an awesome experience! MountainRiders team is the best. Very knowledgeable, great safety protocol and just overall fun to hang with! And the views were incredible. One thing for sure..it’s no joke it’s cold at the top of Haleakala, so plan for it and enjoy the sunrise!

The views are amazing and the tour guides provide a great overview of Maui history. You get to see many historical sites and homes along the way and experience wonderful food if choose to do so! The bike ride is all down hill and just a part of the experience you are paying for! This is our second time participating, we did the sunrise previously, and won’t be the last. Don’t miss out! Picture included is me taking a photo while riding the bike down the mountain. The other picture is my wife and they include the helmet and will also provide jackets if needed.

Beautiful experience seeing the sunrise. Bike ride was easy for kids and family who are not cyclists. Guided in a safe manner with a chase van. Lots of local history from guides. My teen kids and wife had a great day.

We booked with this company after the original company we booked with canceled our reservation the day before our excursion because we were the only ones booked in that time slot. This company has older bikes but they seemed to be well maintained. We did the sunrise tour, we were the lucky 50% that got an amazing sunrise. It is not the guides fault if it ends up too cloudy to see a sunrise. It was 35 degrees up there so dress warm. They provided a hooded fleece lined poncho to wrap around yourself while you wait for the sunrise, that was a nice surprise. The ride down the volcano felt safe being able to ride in the middle of the car lane. We liked the guided tour so that we didn’t have to worry about when to ride on the side so cars could pass. The van following us let the lead know and then we would all move over. There isn’t very much vehicle traffic going down the mountain so it was a very nice ride down. I am not a biker by any means, truth be told it had been a few years since I have been on a bike and we are in our 50’s so I was a little nervous but I had a blast. The stop in the little town for a drink or snack was very enjoyable. Make sure you stop in the store that carries the cookies from the Maui Cookie Lady (delicious). You can bring a backpack that you leave on the bus, for water bottles, snacks, and a place to put the clothes you take off as it warms up. Just be prepared to tip half to the bus drivers after they bring you down to the beginning of the biking part and the other half of the tip to the guides at the end of the biking part. We were not prepared to do that so we gave it all at the end and they said they would give the portion to the bus drivers. Everyone we dealt with was kind, funny, and informative.

Saw an awesome sunrise! The van driver, G, was personable and knowledgeable. The bike guide took us from 6500 feet to the first town. Then we went back to 6500 feet and did it again! He took time to take an awesome panorama of us and tell us of hot spots on the island. Just a wonderful morning!

Super fun! We did the day ride, not sunrise, and loved it. Not what I expected: more roller coaster or skiing and not really a scenic photo tour. I was focused on the road, not the views.I wore jeans and long sleeve surf shirt, light sweatshirt, light rain shell. Thermally this was perfect. I recommend you wear layers.

Good experience but confusing. The trip began by handing us over to Valley Isle Excursions for the trip to the top of the mountain. It was a great experience and we were well cared for (including parkas for warmth while waiting for sunrise). Then we were handed back to Maui Mountain Riders. When leaving we weren't sure how to handle the tipping (we didn't think 15-20% was appropriate for 1/2 of the trip). Very awkward. The bike portion was okay but we spent more time at the coffee shop than we did biking (part of this was due to part of the road is no longer available to commercial bike tours). Again, we weren't sure how to handle the tipping after the bike portion. All of the guides were good although not necessarily well spoken. Overall, good, but not great trip.

It was freezing cold for the morning sunrise so please take your warmer's jacket, snow boots, everything lol! Bike riding part was nice! Our instructor was the best. Thank you for everything and a wonderful comforting experience. We will definitely be returning once our kids are old enough for this wild ride! Mahalo!

Jo and Dean were great. Super fun ride down. Enjoyed the delights of the bakery and coffee shop half way down. We didn’t do the sunrise and we were not too freezing. All good.

Absolutely awesome adventure, I have done this adventure three times in the last 20 years. This is the first time I went with Maui mountain riders, Bobby was our guide that joined us on the bikes and Nani was the driver that protected us from passing traffic. They were so professional, funny and caring, My son was nervous and a bit unstable, as a team they immediately noticed and Bobby got him comfortable and confident right away. As long as they work here I will never go with another company.

We had an absolutely fabulous ride with Joe and our van driver Spencer. Nothing but love! Safety is their main concern, the bikes are purpose built for downhill riding, lots of helmet sizes, they provide a cute little bottle of water and granola bars, and my wife said this was her favorite excursion of all of them we've ever done! Joe is the down to earth "beach bum" bike rider, been leading tours for decades, had a great sense of humor, and this was much more fun than the go-by-myself self tour. If you're ever unconformable or just tired, you get to ride down in the van. Didn't have that option riding by myself. Highly recommended!

Gotta say one of the highlights of this Maui trip. Full send downhill Haleakala with beautiful views. Flowy and fast as you can handle. It's a solid 20+miles but it happens in 2-3 hour's at your pace. There are stops at some local stores to chill then you resend down to the storefront. Great guide sets you up and your good to go. Maui riders is a real good shop and highly recommended for this really exhilarating ride. Must DO!!

We went with Mountain Riders in Paia today, we had an excellent ride down Haleakala mtn. John was our guide and I can’t say enough about his knowledge and expertise. Nonnie was our driver and she was amazing as well, warm, friendly and welcoming. These local companies need your support. If you are still here on Maui, and would like to experience this beautiful side of the island, I highly recommend this company. They are locals and have spent a lifetime sharing the true Hawaiian spirit and knowledge and history to all.

Beautiful morning views on Haleakala, but would recommend you just drive yourself. You can’t bike down from the top so the bike experience is very minimal and not worth the cost. You drive down to mile marker eight bike for 10 minutes, Load up the bikes, do a portion of it again, drive down into town, buy your own breakfast, and bike another 10 minutes back to the bike shop. The bikes are incredibly old and not in good shape. For a very experienced biker, even I was uncomfortable on these POS’s. The Bus Driver was very helpful and service oriented. I felt the others were a little pushy about tips and needed some customer service refinement (lots of profanity). Directions were unclear. Just not that impressive.

This was an incredible experience. I was able to watch an incredible sun rise with the amazing staff leading the trip. Bobby and John were so accommodating and had great personality. Riding down mountain on a bike and taking in all the beautiful sights was breathtaking.

This was awesome!!!!! My hubby and I decided to do this bike ride as it was his birthday and he loves mountain biking. I haven't ridden a lot, mostly just cruising but this was amazing and we were so happy we chose Mountain Riders.We initially wanted to do the sunrise bike tour but this was booked out so we did the predawn ride. We had to be at the base for 5am which was great for us as we were making our own way there and were only 20 mins away.We were greeted by happy friendly staff and coffee at the base. Kevin was our guide with Dante our driver. Both were friendly, experienced and knowledgeable. As a less experienced rider I felt completely comfortable.We started our ride at about 7000ft - the temp was around 12°c standing still but much colder riding and it was about 5.50ish when we started.What was great is that Kevin was very understanding of the terrain and the drivers on the road at that time in the morning so responded easily by directing us into the road or onto the bike path. Dante stayed close behind in the van to keep us safe.There was very limited cycling, being all downhill, mainly braking. We stayed at a safe pace and kept together, it was awesome.We were introduced to the Jackson chameleon, which is the cutest lizard!! And stopped at Makawao for breakfast from the General Store, which we knew was not included in the price. From there we road into Pa'ia where we stopped at the beach, got back in the van and went back to base.It was one of the best experiences I've ever had!!!We then went back up to the Haleakala crater and that was when we realised how steep the ascent is!!We also were not disappointed by missing the sunrise tour as Haleakala is incredible no matter what time of day.You will not regret this ride and if I could give Mountain Riders 20 stars I would!!!!
