They advertise their shop as the southernmost bakery in country. It's not only that, it's also just a plain old good bakery! The malasadas (puffy doughnuts) are baked to perfection, but there is A TON of sugar on them. Each is around $2 as of April 2024. You can also buy snacks and sandwiches here but the baked goods are best. Parking is free, and seating is outdoors but covered. Credit cards are accepted and to go boxes are readily available.Vegetarian options: All the baked goods are vegetarian

Best place to start your day. The beautiful weather allows for you to eat your fresh breakfast outdoors under the pavilion while being serenaded by the live music. Very clean, friendly and efficient environment nestled right in the quiet town of Naalehu on the ocean. Loved trying a new flavor of fresh malasada every morning!! Also plenty of lunch options, great gift shop, and more!

The good: prices for food were very reasonable (especially for Hawaii). The staff was friendly and easy going. The baked items are out of this world. The bad: almost every multi item order has issues. I watched a bunch of people have to take their order back up or just the receipt to get missed items. The ugly: they run out of items regularly and it's a mad house with an insane line out both doors.

Great selection of fresh baked goods. They also offer a nice variety of hot or cold sandwiches. They also provide samples of some of their more popular breads. It's a treat for us foodies😋.There are lots of great options for a store not so large.Don't miss stopping in this place if you're ever visitingKona Hawaii. It's about 60 miles of a winding road but so worth the drive😍.

Worth the hype.Nestled into the “southernmost” community in the USA, this bake shop is well known and highly trafficked. Deli meats, hot sammies, and a variety of local lunch plates compliment the wide assortment of baked breads and goods. We ended up with a seafood salad (think like chicken salad) sandwich and the roast beef lunch plate, as well as a passion fruit malasada for desert. It was 1) very affordable and 2) excellent! If we were spending more time along south/southwest island, we’d be visiting here again.Highly recommend for a quick lunch!

It's a delightful bakery offering a wide variety of Hawaiian pastries. Ensure you arrive at least two hours before closing if you want to try their malasadas with various fillings. Keep in mind that it's quite popular, so be prepared for a long wait in line to place your order. Additionally, there's a gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs. Our favorites were the malasadas, especially the one with pineapple filling and the Bismark malasadas—chocolate-glazed with vanilla cream inside.

This is a MUST SEE. Beautiful place, but very busy; a bus had just arrived. There was ample outdoor seating with beautifully landscaped grounds and gazebos, an area where one could view bakery operations, large clean bathrooms, and a gift shop area. A gentleman sat near the gazebos and serenaded us with native songs. He sang some requests for my friend, whose deceased uncle had been a famous Hawaiian singer/songwriter. Very good experience for himDelicious macadamia ice cream and the bread and filled rolls were to die for; get the larger ice cream size, you deserve it! BE SURE to take a large suitcase to bring baked goods home as shipping it is exorbitant. Prices were a bit high, but they cater to tourists. (As a Mid-atlantic resident, HI sticker shock was very real for me.) My party of three included a Hawaiian "semi-native" who said his family has be visiting this business for many years. His mom always packs a suitcase full of bread before returning to VA Beach!

We stopped here as part of a tour and it was a lovely break to get a small bite to eat for breakfast and grab a sandwich for later in the day.We sat out the back under a gazebo where there was some live music.

Yes. Stop here. It's the most southern bakery in the US. The fresh malasadas were the bomb. I had a taro one and it was so delicious. I wish I could find that flavor more readily. There is a gift shop. A bit pricey... But think about where you are. I recommend grabbing extra malasadas for the road if you're heading for Volcano NP.The bathroom is clean and well stocked. Staff was friendly and attentive. So overall I'm so glad we stopped. Great food, clean store and helpful employees. Oh and there is a small garden area, too, with places to eat and plants/trees to see. Enjoy!!Parking: Lots of parkingKid-friendliness: What kid doesn't like a bakery!Wheelchair accessibility: I don't recall there being stairs, or even a step, to get inside.

Super touristy place and I say this because during peak times it will be packed!! Long lines full parking lot.If you come during the last 30 min of closing (I don't know if they do this everyday) but the day we came they did 50% off the malasadas not including the Bismark (chocolate and cream filled). The mango malasada didn't taste much of mango just dough covered with sugar. The lilikoi malasada had a strong tangy passion fruit flavor I enjoyed. The Bismark is better than the Boston cremes. The hawaiin sweet rolls (guava) is my favorite super yummy. They don't carry all the flavors of sweet rolls I'm the markets. They also sell souvenirs. They have tables and multiple stall bathrooms. Plenty of parking space.

Omg….you must try the malasadas they are delicious-we had the Cholocate filled, mango filled, apple filled , mango filled, bismark and the traditional malasadas. The sea food sandwich, tuna sandwich and the pastrami sandwich was delicious. The chicken sandwich was just two chicken tenders- not that tasty. The rest of the food was a must try. GET YOU MALASADAS, before you leave the big island 🏝️…-Ashley from Gilbert, AZ

Get yourself to this bake shop! If you’re heading down the southern part of the island or going towards volcanoes national park it’s an easy stop along the way. This is in fact the southern most bakery in the US which is enough reason to visit alone, but the malasadas make it even more worth it!Wound up going with the guava, mango, apple, chocolate, and Lilikoi variety all of which were tasty. I would say go for the fruit filled versions rather than the guava and mango which were only slightly flavored rather than packed with filling. Also tried the teriyaki burger which was small but tasty!

Okay… we need to have a serious talk!!!!! This place is so good that we drive from Kona just for one of their delicious Lilikoi Malasadas. I mean who does that? Well…. We do! This place is amazing. The Lilikoi malasada is so heavenly that I want to name my next child Lilikoi. I wish I could have one every day. If you get the chance…. Take a drive out to this fabulous bakery. You won’t regret it!

Saw their bread at the supermarket and decided to go over and visit the bakery myself & I was not disappointed, The smell of fresh baked bread hit my nose as soon as we got off the car. They open at 8:30 so try to be there between 8:30am-9:20am to be the first ones to try the fresh goods and avoid the tour bus crowd.Bread and coffee was great!! They even had some bread at 50% off so we loaded up!😅There was also a very talented brother playing live music outside by the tables and he definitely made our visit 20xxx more enjoyable and memorable!! 🤙🏽The garden and the birds were also a nice add on to the experience, bathrooms super clean and nice customer service!!!Recommended 100% & will definitely visit again when back on the island!

I just received delivery of my online order and it definitely exceeded my expectations! We’ve been in person several times, but I needed a “fix” between visits. I was slightly worried about ordering online, but they were absolutely delicious and I’m so glad I ordered! This option will definitely help tide me over between visits lol. Mahaolo

If ever there was a perfect bakery, this place is it. If you are reading this review, don't think any further. Just verify they're open, get in your car, and start driving!Everything about Punalu'u Bake Shop screams perfection. Their menu has everything from the scrumdiddlyumptious malasadas to great drink selections. Their chai latte was spot on delicious. They have great sandwiches too, making them a wonderful spot for lunch. The perfection extends beyond the food though! The ambiance is wonderful, with plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. They had live music! It gets better though! Locals and tourists alike hang out here, and on my visit some locals invited me to their table and we ended up talking for an hour!Again, there's no reason to contemplate going here. You need to go. This is a must stop shop if you're on the island! You will thank me later!

food is good and service is good - they try to do the best with the long lines that form. It seems to be a bit of a rest stop for weary travelers making the tourist loop from Kona to Hilo (long way around). Plenty of outdoor seating, parking and clean restrooms. Be ware there are no water fountains etc., you gotta buy everything. Also they claim to be the southernmost bakery in the USA. Well worth a stop for a bite to eat.
