I’ve rented from Krank on two different occasions about 8 years apart.Both occasions I rode the skyline trail starting at the summit of Haleakala.It you are into mountain biking, add this to your bucket list, and make sure you get you gear from Krank.They also have a great selection of unique hats.The crew was also very helpful with selecting the correct rack for our rental vehicle and setting it up to fit right.I will definitely be visiting these guys again. I had been going to For upgrades on a free bicycle I had gotten when first arriving on maui. I totally wiped out going down Balwin. When stopping in the hooked me up with safety year. And didn't let me over spend. I got an upgrade to the bicycle. Is a brand new GIANT. I ended up putting.Around twenty one miles on at that same day. I love you guys. Thanks. ISAIAH

More like Kranky Cycles….They really made sure that my friend and I felt like we were inconveniencing them by using their rental services. Bikes are okay. My Transition sounded as if it was on its last legs whenever travel was needed but the NX shifter was dialed in which was appreciated on the climbs👌Knowledge on whether or not one of the most popular trails on the island is open or closed would have also been appreciated. The owner seemed genuinely surprised when we came back early from our Skyline ride on Haleakala because it was closed. Still had fun though but if I were to only do the road portion I would have rented a road bike. It’s ultimately upon the rider to find out riding conditions but after getting a good shake down on what to expect from the shop the evening prior, we had no other reason to think it was closed 🤙 Ride safe y’all.

Awesome bike shop, and the employees aren't even particularly surly! If you want Day-of repair service better have a cold six-pack in your hand for those hard-working mechanics. I love this shop I go here multiple times each day.

The owner seems kind of Kranky. 😔 Rented a Transition Spire, had a fun time. Was largely disappointed in my experience with the bike shop in particular. My bike was set up with 30 lb. too much air in the front fork, and the one trail, Renegade, which was recommended from the bike shop was literally the worst trail I've ever ridden on bike. Pineapple Express however, was amazing. Many of the trail systems here on Maui are closed currently. Which I understand will make it challenging for a bike shop. As a bike steward for the community, you can definitely do better. Seems like one of the best options here on Maui, but do your homework before you arrive.

KRANK IS THE PLACE TO GO !!! Ive used 4 bike shops on Maui over 20 years of riding here and these guys are pros. The staff is humbleand know their bikes. They dont give you attitude and charge realistic prices... plus they are open more than just a few hours a day. Which means you dont have to wait days to get a bike back from them for simple repairs. I re-cabled the bike and its shifting better than ever... and its a 3 year old top of the line bike. Which means...They improved on the original build. AA the lead mechanic is really skilled and id recomment Krank to anyone living or visiting Maui especially for repairs or building up or breaking down a bike for travel. These guys give back to the community and run a great shop you that you feel good about patronizing and all this makes your cycling experience on Maui more positive. I wish someone had told me about Krank years ago!

Rented two Giant TCRs for our Sea to Summit ride of Haleakala. Grueling tough ride and summited on great machines. Moose was great and we ended up getting a few pieces of nice apparel. Great shop and would recommend.-Mahalo,Haki

Rented a Transition Spire for the day to go do some laps at Kahakapao, specifically Pineapple Express. Booking online in advance was easy and picking the bike up was a quick process. Bikes come with repair kits and a helmet if you didn’t bring one. The shop employee assisting provided me up with a pack to throw extra water in which was appreciated. The mechanic gave the bike a once over before handing it over so there were no surprises at the trailhead. Tire pressure and suspension setup is 100% personal preference so can’t fault the shop on setting the bike up based on weight provided at reservation. It was a bit firm but airing down the tires helped a lot. I’ll bring a shock pump next time. Overall I would recommend Krank Cycles to anyone looking to ride Kahakapao.

Came into Krank cycles in Makawao to fix the brakes on my bike and Hector was so very helpful and kind. He took care of my issue and I was out in less than an hour. Can’t recommend Hector enough and his outstanding customer service. If you’re riding Macawao or Skyline, and you need a quality bike, look no further. Kranks reserved my bike, dialed the suspension in for my weight ahead of time, and had all the extras needed for a good day. The gentleman who helped me gave me a well designed store map to Macawao just in case my google maps app lost signal- it did. The prices are very fair. For a high quality enduro bike that kept me safe and allowed me to crush some ascents and bomb Pineapple Express a few times, I felt it was a good partnership. Its proximity to Macawao and Skyline is an added convenience. Saved me from having to schlep my own bike in a box. Didn’t have to box my bike or pay for oversized baggage. Kranks - worth every penny and the customer service was outstanding.

I come from an experienced team racing/riding background. I rented a road bike for a week and I can't imagine a better rental experience. If you want to ride some of the best equipment on the island for VERY reasonable prices, look no further.Moose and the rest of the gang at Krank Cycles are AWESOME. All their rental equipment was in "Like-New" or in my case "Brand-New" condition. They made all the adjustments to custom fit the bike to my requests and ensured I had everything I needed for a pleasurable riding experience on the island. They even suggested I bring the bike by for a tuneup after the first day (just to ensure no "new-bike" issues spoiled my ride). I always felt like they cared about me having a good time.I was given thorough advice on the best places to ride by experienced individuals who also ride daily. From the Ocean to the top of Haleakala and back will go down as one of my most rewarding life experiences to date. Having a reliable bike was mandatory for the journey.If you want to mix it up and ride road and mountain bike while on the island, Moose offered me the opportunity to swap my rental over to the other discipline during my stay. Renting for several days really knocked the price down and made this a no-brainer for leaving my personal bike at home.A couple of things to remember:1)Reserve your bike in advance for a painless pickup process.>2)Arrive early because these guys get busy during the day.I see no reason to shop anywhere else. We rented hardtail MTBs for the day and everything was ready when we showed up. One staff member helped us with our paperwork while another attached our bike rack to the car and loaded the bikes. The Makawao Forest Reserve is only like 10 min away and they gave us detailed rundown of what to expect. The bikes were in good condition and well tuned. Would definitely rent from here again.

I rented a nice road bike from their Makawao location and had a wonderful experience, rode all around maui and Halaekala.The guys at the shop were very helpful and installed the pedals I wanted. I even had a mechanical which they fixed it with no extra charge. I would highly recommend Krank Cyles to anyone who is looking to rent a bike to explore Maui.

Really great selection of high-end road bikes perfectly set up for riding in the area (they also have really nice rental mountain bikes). Staff and owner are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, skilled and pleasant to deal with. Great advice on places to ride. I wish this was my local bike shop (I was visiting). Worth a trip across the island to rent from Krank regardless of where you are staying.

The stoke is high in Maui Upcountry! Krank Cycles on Maui is an amazing shop with a super helpful & passionate biker staff and a fleet of epic bikes to choose from in lots of sizes. I took out the Transition Smuggler, they also have SC Tallboys, Rocky Mtn Elements, and other high caliber rides, pretty sure they have dual crowns for dh’ing too. The Makawao Forest mtb trail network is within 10minutes drive after bike pickup, and are SICK! Jungle with sequoia trees and a 2+ mile flow trail “Pineapple Express” that is really- full send-able. Nice dj line and pump track too! Can’t wait to come back next time! Thanks Krank, and Aaron for the help getting setup. Shred on!

We rented three bikes for the week in Maui. I wanted to complete a bucket list ride from the ocean to the top of Haleakala as well as some other rides in Maui. I needed a high end bike similar to what I ride at home and definitely as light as possible. They outfitted me with a Giant TCR, full carbon, SRAM electronic components, a full carbon Giant Defy for my son and an e-bike (Orbea) for my other son (he needed a little extra help). The ride was hard, but everything went seamlessly. The service was fantastic and the bikes were in incredible shape! The TCR was light, snappy, a great climber and fast on the flats. If you need a high-end bike not some over-used, poorly cared for rental, Krank is the place for you and well worth heading up-country in Maui to get it. Thanks Krank Cycles for helping me check another ride off my bucket list!

Looking for a place to rent for the day and these folks were the only ones to have what we needed. Came in the day before just to talk and see what they had and the staff was great! They made some recommendations for us on where to ride and options for other locations. We reserved the bike that afternoon and took care of all the paperwork to avoid the retail traffic that would be in the next day. Came back at 9AM the next day, they put on our peddles and checked things over very good. Adjusted the shocks a little and we were off. Ended the day meeting up with 3 of them at the local trails and riding. Great bunch of guys. They made sure all gear was in working order before we left. Gave us some pointers on were to and not to. We will be back to ride with Moose and his crew again.

Unreal experience minutes from the trailhead. The selection of bikes is drool-worthy. Top of the line bikes from Santa Cruz, Ibis, GT, etc.--and even some rare beasts like the new Knolly Fugitive LT that Moose and his team sorted out for me. Shop is well stocked and staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Renting mountain bikes can be tricky with all the setup and maintenance work that's required but these guys make it a simple and painless process.Prices are great and there's no way you'll find a better bike rental experience in Maui or elsewhere. They also have a full line of high-end road bikes and road e-bikes from brands like Giant, BMC and Orbea.If you're an avid cyclist, a stop at Krank should be on your bucket list. Whether it's for a rental or just to check out all the super rad Hawaiian themed cycling kits, Krank is the go-to destination and well worth the drive.

Had a great experience with their bike rental services. Can't go wrong with Frank Cycles if you prefer real mountain bikes. They are close to many local MTB trails. A word of caution: make reservations in advance so you'll have more options on mtbs. This is a very busy bike shop and you may not have what you want on short notice.

very poor disposition of the employees towards customers, the last 3 times I went, not only did they treat me poorly but also, they did not do the work for which I paid. I once took my bike to have a complete service done, like greasing, oiling and rectifying the suspensions and the only thing they did was clean it, but they charged me as if they had done everything! The last time I went with a group of friends to rent bicycles for 24 hours and they charged us for 48 hours... the bicycles were not in good condition, which is why we lost a lot of time on the paths! THE EMPLOYEES ARE MISEDICATED AND SCAMMERS.

Experience started well, called ahead and reserved some bikes to rent, upon arrival, we found that the bikes a BMC and a Giant TCR. They installed our pedals for us and lended us some tools and CO2 inflator which was nice, but we ended up adjusting the saddle height ourselves. Then the tires felt a little low, checked them and there were only about 65 psi, way too low for 23x700c tires even though the compressor "was set to 100 psi" so we had to pump up the tires ourselves. After that we were ready to go.They gave us directions to ride up Haleakela, but part way up I found that the front derailleur cable had slipped and couldn't even shift into the big ring. I had to readjust cable tension and limit screws myself to be able to shift into the big ring on the way down. As I was descending, I started to hear a rattling sound. I stopped to find that my saddle had come almost all the way loose. A potentially very dangerous situation. Luckily we had tools and I have experience working with bikes, however if it had been someone less experienced with these bikes it could have been a lot worse.The employee helping us didn't seem that concerned when some of the problems were mentioned, it may have been a fluke since it was a brand new bike, but for the price of the rental ($55 for the Giant) there was definitely a lack of attention to details. Overall the experience was still good (Hard to beat the Maui riding in winter), but next time I'll probably go to Maui Cycles to give them a try.

I live in Oahu, and I came across one of their advertisements. I was in the market for a 2nd hand/used mountain bike. Instead I found this Brand New Cannondale 2020 Habit 3 Carbon for $3100. That's $1100 off of MSRP. In addition, they threw in some extras and free next day shipping to Oahu by Hawaiian Air Freight! The owner personally answered like a 100 different questions from me about this bike, and a upgrade project that I have. I will be referring these guys out to all my family, friends, and co-workers! Great team located on Maui! LEGIT! I love my bike! Now need one for my wife.

I rented a full suspension Santa Cruz for a day and it was a great experience. The bike was well tuned and they provide you with a helmet, pump, tools and spare tire all at a good price. Conveniently located close to the trails in the Makawao Forest Reserve. The shop has a lot of nice products to buy too.

Great location most proximal to Makawao trails. Excellent customer service, friendly staff, online rental of well maintained mtb equipment. It was raining everwhere esle, but the Makawao trails were dry. If you like to trail ride the east and west access trails and the pinapple express trail will not disappoint.
