The Komoda Bakery is an icon in Makawao beloved by locals and tourists alike. Is it the *best* donut I’ve ever had in my life? No, but they are delicious, charming, and nostalgic. Plus, it’s simply worth the visit to this beautiful town. Don’t hesitate to go, try several goods, and enjoy the scenery. FYI it’s cash only under $10 so be prepared 🍩

Desserts: 4/5Service: 4/5Ambiance: 3/5Overall: Worth a go for some good sweet treats. Gotta get there early! The extended review...Desserts:Peach Pear Turnover - 3/5 - Not a bad turnover. Pretty standard fare. I would have enjoyed it being a little bit more crispy.Donut Sticks - 4/5 - One of the staples of the store and a must have. It's definitely a very fresh donut, nice and and chewy and perfectly glazed.Cream Puffs - 5/5 - OMG. You must get these. The filling is amazingly rich and tasty. We bought a dozen and I could not stop eating them.Service: 4/5 - Friendly service.Ambiance: 3/5 - Slightly run down on the inside and more of a grab and go place since there isn't anywhere to eat.

I'm koo-koo for coco puffs. Haven't been here in @ 30 years. I'm so happy they're still kicking it! It's worth the lines and the wait. One of the last of the small town bakeries. Malama and kokua, when you visit one of the good things about Hawaii! 😊🤙✌️10/2023Stopped in for apple pie and cream puffs, with a side of malasadas. Cream puffs didn't last long when I landed back on Oahu. Ono! 🙂🤙✌️11/2023Popped in for some quick cocoa puffs, butter rolls, and apple pie for my ride back to Oahu! Yeesssaaahh! 😉🤙✌️

First off, get there early. Got there a little before 7:15am and there was already a line of about 20 people in front of us. Additionally, be prepared to wait and exercise patience… it took about 35-45 minutes to get thru the store, but this was on a Saturday morning (5/7/2022). By time we got out at ~ 8am, there was a long line waiting to enter the bakery. Due to the times they are short-staffed but work diligently to assist customers when their turn comes up in line. Keep that in mind and don’t be an impatient child. That said, what’s the rush if you’re on vacation? The donuts are totally worth it and validate the popularity they have rightfully earned. Tried the following donuts: stick donut, chocolate stick donut, malasada stick donut, guava malasada, cream puff, and choco puff (cream puff with chocolate custard filling & powdered sugar atop). Go guava malasada if you’re feeling tropical, but all the donuts we tried were worthy. If I had to pick favorites, stick donut, chocolate stick donut, guava malasada and cream puff. The cream puff very fondly reminds me of childhood when my mom would make them from scratch.Definitely a great stop to catch them when they were opened. Don’t miss out on supporting this long-standing mom-and-pop bakery and Maui Institution.

Cute walk through the memory lane. The store showed a lot of the family history of the Komoda family so it's great that the store is still in the family. We tried about four of their donuts, cream puffs and malasada and they were quite soft and fluffy. Couldn't finish them all in one go so we kept some for the next day and they were not hard.

The guava malasada was as delicious as others notes. Arrived around 10am on. Monday morning - no line and plenty of baked goods. Closed precisely at 1. Very reasonable $

Got here right after opening for fresh stick donuts! I heard they tend to sell out. The store really has a no-frills, local feel to it. You also don't feel like you're being ripped off, as the prices are very reasonable. The stick donut was one of the best damn things I'd ever tasted. Would have loved to try other things but perhaps next time. There really isn't a reason to give this place any less than 5 stars. The service was friendly, and everything about the store met my expectations.

I arrived 9am Saturday morning and they were open! Known for their dinner rolls. Slightly sweet, buttery and pillow soft. If you like King's Hawaiian Bread...Komoda out shines King's. (Just sayin')

This is an authentic experience! Showed up around 9:30 on a Saturday and the line was out the door and the shelves were 3/4 empty. I ended up with bread, rolls, a cinnamon roll and a coconut danish were amazing except for the danish which was ok. Especially loved the bagged rolls, we used them for sandwiches on the beach for the rest of our trip, DELICIOUS!! Get there early and bring cash

One of my favorite bakery here in Maui. They have the best selection of donuts, vanilla cream puff, butter rolls, longs John, turn overs and chantily cakes. My only suggestion is that the vendors needed to be more friendly.I had the not so good service today by one of the cashiers.Over all I still love and recommend this place.

Very quirky place, worth a visit. Very historic old store. Display cases (from a bygone era) are beautiful. Locals like the 12 pack sweet rolls. We as visitors went right for the gooey, yummy donut choices. Coffee was tres horrible - do avoid! Busy, with a line up to cash out and pick pastries from the display case. Malasadas are ok, not as good Leonard's on Oahu. Glad for the chance to test goodies from this renowned place! Open 7-1 except closed on Wed and Sun. May close early if sold out.

Old school bakery and plantation style store in upcountry setting. Ambience is 5/5. Get there in the morning as there is usually a line to get in, and they close early. There is street parking, and seating on benches across the street. The staff were friendly and helped us make our selection. We tried the regular and guava malasadas, the cocoa cream puff, a stick donut, and butter rolls (not pictured). The stick donut had nice texture and I can imagine myself loving this when I was kid. The cream puff had a great filling, but was a little too dense for my liking. The maladadas are pre-made and not made fresh so they are not warm when you get them. Our favorite thing were the butter rolls. They were fluffy and chewy, and the buttery, sugary top was amazing. Not too sweet.

Awesome local donuts and malasadas!Come early for best selection, but still some left at closing.Weekend has more limited baking, e.g. no sprinkle sticks.Recommend (best) the guava malasadas, donut sticks, and coconut danish. Strawberry Filled Donut had real strawberries inside (great filling). It was GREAT and it kept till the next morning. We will definitely be back here when returning to Maui!

Great pastries. Got there 6 minutes after opening and line was out the door, but it moved quickly and the service was very friendly. Got several items but favorites were guava-filled donuts, coconut turnovers, and pear peach turnovers.

THE most amazing bakery in the island! We tried a few of their goods and would go back for all of them! The malasadas, cream puffs, turnovers and donuts where just amazing!A great stop for snacks for the road to Hana, or just to have around the place while you’re in Maui. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re on the island.

The greatest little bakery on Maui! Don't bother with the rest of the store, it's a sad display of forgotten items, expired goods, and a and dubious hot dog warmer. What you're here for is endless doughnuts and baked sweets of all kinds.Mind the $10 credit card minimum, or pay with cash.

We waited in line for about 10 minutes to get a cinnamon snail and guava malasada. Both were very good. Service was efficient.

Pretty good, unique donuts! Not the best if you like chocolate donuts, but these were pretty yummy, and good quality! Great place for locals too.

Malasadas for Fat Tuesday are a must from this 100+ year old bakery. We got three sugar malasada and three cinnamon malasada. Needless to say there aren’t many left after we devoured our choices. This is a must stop place to get tasty pastries.

The bakery makes some really tasty Malasadas and filled Long Jones. The store invests in their craft and what matters. I hope that big money is not able to change the character too much. So far so good. Line was long but fast. Enjoy!

Was here around 8:30am on a Monday- there was no one in line and a parking spot was open right across from the shop. We tried the cream puff and the peach pear turnover. Both were tasty and not too expensive, but honestly, not worth the drive unless you're going to Haleakala, Kula Gardens, Hana, etc. already. They are good but definitely not the best we've ever had, or anything particularly special. Maybe we just got the wrong pastries?
