We had the most amazing day with Boombox. He is the sweetest boy who is perfectly happy laying around the beach or adventuring around curiously with you! His missing hind leg does not hold him back whatsoever. He was able to climb stairs and take nice leisurely walks with us. His resilience and calmness is truly going to land his forever family. Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity - we miss him already!

Had the most incredible field trip with Wickett! Ran into several other sweet, adoptable dogs throughout the day. The staff are lovely and you can tell the animals here are loved and cared for. The field trip program is amazing and I will recommend to everyone!!!

Their program to take a shelter dog for a day is such a wonderful way to contribute to the Kauai community if you are visiting. They have a great website to see all available animals for adoption. Be sure to make an appointment in advance! We recently adopted our newest member and couldn’t be happier with the care and ease in the process. Interaction with staff and their compassion for the animals is truly felt. Be patient with them! They are busy and need your good vibes. The work they do is a labor of love! Mahalo

Maxi was the sweetest dog ever! Gentle and calm and playful for our whole walk and day at the beach! We even ate at a food truck with him. He is the most patient, sweet, cuddly dog we’ve ever been lucky to spend time with. We can’t have another dog, but anyone would be blessed to have this little angel ❤️

Great time taking clutch out for a field trip! What a sweet playful dog! We went to the beach and park and spent some time in the water and just running around.Everything needed to take care of the dog on the field trip was provided as well as a list of parks and beaches we can visit.

Loved our experience at Kauai Human Society! My husband and I are from Chicago and extended our trip in Kauai to be able to take a shelter dog out for a field trip. We were blessed to spend a few hours with Ke’o and he was SUCH a great dog. He was so cuddly, so friendly, and walks great on a leash! He loved car rides and sticking his head out the window! With our flight leaving at 5pm, we were not looking for anything too time consuming. We spent the day walking down an easy coastal trail, going to Petco and having lunch at Jimmy’s beach bar as suggested by the woman who helped us. I wish I asked for her name, she was such a light, so knowledgeable and friendly.

We had a Doggie Field Trip with Baryl on Sunday. What a great treat it was for us to share our day with such a wonderful loving dog. After a few beach walks we headed to Friendly Waves for lunch. They seated us right by the door so Barrel greeted each and every patron and had so much wonderful exposure. One couple actually said they want to adopt her. Let’s hope and pray it works out. She is just a lovely dog.

Awesome experience to take a dog on a field trip for the day. Got our doggy fix while on vacation and got to hike with an adorable (and super cuddly) pit mix. Wonderful staff and they give you everything you need in a small backpack. Would absolutely do it again!

Took amazing Wickett out for a couple hours to hike with him while we enjoyed his beautiful island.Thanks Kauai Humane Society for being such Champs and taking care of these wonderful dogs until they find their forever home.

Such a good experience for us and especially the dog. We got a sweet doggie that we hope someone will adopt soon. Reef was very happy and loving.The shelter provided the collar and leash, a towel, water, toys, and snacks to enjoy a day field trip out with the dog.

We had such a fun day taking Mya out on a field trip! She was a big sweetheart with so much love to give, and her tail never seemed to stop wagging. We took her to Shipwreck Beach where she bounced around in the waves and enjoyed lots of treats (she was so gentle when taking treats). Then, we took her to get a shaved ice (just the ice!) and she loved it. She’s such an affectionate and silly girl who just wants to be friends with everyone she meets. We were so surprised to find out that she’s been in the shelter for 3 months. She’s gentle, a total love bug, great in the car, walks well on leash, and has the most beautiful brown eyes! If we didn’t already have a big dog at home, we would’ve adopted her ourselves. We hope you find your forever family soon, Mya!

What a loving group of people. While visiting, we decided to “take a shelter dog on a field trip”. If we didn’t already have two big dogs at home, Moxie would be on the first flight home to come with us. We took her to the beach, got her shaved ice, let her play in the waves, and loved her. Aloha! My name is McKenna and I'm looking for my fur-ever home! A couple from Houston took me on a field trip to Sleeping Giant and here's what they learned about me! I'm a sweet pup that LOVES belly rubs and loves hikes! I can climb up rocks easily, and have plenty of energy to keep up with any adventure! I was ALWAYS checking behind me on the walk though to make sure no one in the pack was left behind. I'm a smart boy and even learned the "down" command in a short period of time! I already know "sit" and go potty outside. I'm a gentle giant with soo much love to give! I'm such a smart boy and would be a great addition to any high energy home! I love other dogs, people, chickens, lizards, and never bark!

Such a unique experience if you love dogs! We were matched with Juno and she was such a calm, gentle sweetheart. Not once did bark on our field trip.We went to Shipwreck beach and walked the trail along the golf course next to the coastline. Then got some shaved ice together (Juno got hers plain) at Waimea Shaved Ice, followed by a drink at Kauai Beer Company. She got a lot of attention and pets from people during the day. Great way to promote the doggies at Kauai Humane Society and let the dogs enjoy some fun and freedom on this beautiful island.The staff were wonderful. A simple online booking, check-in and drop off process. We really think Juno would be a great furever dog and hope she gets adopted soon. Thanks Juno for making our first trip to Kauai so memorable.

If you’re on a trip to Kauai, please adopt a pet for a day, if possible forever. These pets deserve all the love. We adopted Rocky for a day, he was such a very sweet good boy. We had a great day spending time with him. Wish we could adopt him but we already have a dog. I hope he and all other pets find their forever home. The folks at Kauai humane society are doing a thankless job and taking great care of the pets. Appreciate the work they’re doing helping these animals

If you are on Kauai and plan to do a hike, you NEED to take a dog on the field trip! Such a cool program and if you want to adopt, they have ways to get dogs back to the states that is relatively inexpensive.

My husband and I went to the KHS to take a dog on a field trip to help give a baby some exposure in the hopes of finding the baby a fur ever home. We ended up adopting our sweet buddy-for-the day, and she will fly home to us on Hawaiian Airlines. This shelter has such great help behind the desk, and the animals have a great facility that is clean and well maintained. I can't say enough about our experience, and anytime I'm in Kauai, I will spend one of our hiking days giving a fur baby a chance to get out and get some exercise and exposure.

Super fun to be able to "rent" a dog for a day. We had a blast with mukihono. I really don't know how he is not adopted already. He is a sweet boy! I would have taken him home, but I don't think he would have done well with my cats.... Anyway, this program is super fun! What a great way to let the dogs decompress from the kennel atmosphere too!

Staff made the field trip experience pretty seamless and we were able to do a walk in appointment on the same day.Had wonderful time spending the day with Lilikoi! She was very well behaved and had no issues on our hike. Great way to spend some time on the island and a way for the dogs to get out of the shelter!

Staff was great! My puppy was found late at night and turned in the next morning. When I went to claim him he was clean and calm. Took less than 10 minutes to bail him out and process his paperwork.

Wow, what an amazing time! The field trip program was the highlight of our trip. We walked the Kapaa bike path with Miss Piggy (available for adoption as of 4.15.23) and went to happy hour at Kauai Beer Company who's staff already knew who she was! The facility was incredible as well - such an amazing space for the animals and the staff are so kind and knowledgeable. Don't forget to get a branded water bottle or hand tie-dyed tank top on your way out to rep them wherever you go!
