This store really takes advantage of every square inch of space and have a lot of neat stuff. I liked it and my family did too. Found things I didn't even know they would have. They have a lot of fishing stuff and a great collection of knives. I enjoyed going there.

It's like a jungle Bodega. They have ready to eat foods, shelf-stable foods, rope & chain by the foot, camping stuff, a 4' wok just in case you want to make a stir fry on your camping trip, guns & ammo, ice cream, electronic stuff, dog stuff; everything you need for a shotgun wedding, except the dress. It's a staple to our small town.

J. Hara Store is like a convenience store, a grocery store and a sporting goods store had a baby. They have a little bit of everything. From groceries to soil to live angel fish and fishing and hunting stuff J. Hara is a good place to go when you need it and don't want to drive into Hilo or Keaau, and when you have a hard time finding something elsewhere. Employees are great, you can't really go wrong with this store.

Geez, with the amount of money the community spends here, at least make a restroom, for the "Aunties" make shishi. I used to like this store, cause of the Fried Chicken. And I had couple T-Bone steaks and Sashimi to buy too! But I put them back on the shelf. Now, easy choice. Always spend at Kurtistown Cafe instead.

It's your local "general store" that has everything you need, and more you don't! Great place and great people. Honestly, I still get surprised at some of the stuff they carry, but at one time they were the 'go-to' spot for quite a bit of folks living up that way. And they still are!Btw, the hot lunch options are where its at!

5 Stars for Will from Jhara’s dive shopWill handled my work , was top notch professional from the phone call, to the finished jobMy story begins with getting my 130cm Riffe restrung at another competitor I attached pictures of the work from “the other guys” with big Red Xs, and Will of Jhara’s work has a big green check mark.If you notice “the other guys” completely botched the work added the shock bungee way low and didn’t even string the reel line through the loop. If I didnt catch this before going out and shot a big fish or any decent size fish all it would do is hang on my rubbers and or break my reel off possibly leading to a very dangerous situation.I am moderately skilled in maintaining my dive gear but don’t have a good crimper and not much line on hand and I wasn’t gonna have “the other guys” redo the work, so I wanted to get it done by a professional and I was recommended by a friend of mine to go to Jhara in Kurtistown , I called em, Will picked up the phone let me know he can do the work, and to make sure to get there before the dive shop workers leave, I got there in time was easy to find, went to the back where Will was busy taking care of another customer then asked if I needed help, we spoke about our conversation on the phone and he took it from there, doing things the right and professional way. Note to management: Top notch, give this guy a huge fat raise cus you guys got my fishing gear business

Wow what a shocker! Sooo much overpriced stuff cramped into one dinky store. Speaking from experience make sure that what you buy at this store is something you want to keep, my friend visited from mainland spend 800$+ to get a p2p bull pup never got to shoot the thing because the people behind the counter were so ignorant to what was needed to operate the thing so disappointed my friend flys back home leaving me to return the p2p which we figured wouldn't be an issue as it was never fired, it's been a month and a half of me jumping through da hoops and still trying to get my friend his money back. All thanks to Mark at jHara! This guy could have been decent enough to spare me my time and fuel and denied my return from the start. Wanted to be lame and unprofessional instead.🤙🕊️ No way would I recommend wasting a penny in this place.

My fiancé bought a 10x20 tent from here and when we got back home they gave us the wrong pieces, so he had to go back to Jhara to get the right ones. They blamed the "new guy" that worked in the back warehouse the first time they messed up. When we went back home the pieces we got were missing 3 poles. The lack of responsibility from the workers / supervisor should be looked into. No respect for paying costumers. We asked the supervisor to compensate us for going back as much times as we did, she said "her boss, can only give us the poles WE BOUGHT"If anyone ever decides to buy a tent from here I highly recommend counting all the parts and making sure it's all there because they will waste your time, energy and gas. Also, on another note the paper they gave to list the parts count is wrong.

J Had a Store has best fried chicken around. A little bit of everything including fishing and hunting gear. Grocery items electronics and more. They also have other hot plates available I recently had Salisbury steak with rice and gravy very delicious.

Was hired for two weeks, was payed absolute minimum wage and the work load was ridiculous, they keep employees working full time on “part time” to avoid giving them any benefits, was fired after two weeks after unloading a shipment of 3,000 metal poles and needing a day off because my back was so sore, you can’t use your phone or be doing anything but what’s on the checklist all day everyday, they even make you bag ice relentlessly, overall in need of new management asap. Especially when my “warehouse manager” would walk outside and smoke a cig and tlak stories with people whenever he pleases, but I’m the bad guy for wanting a day off after unloading a whole shipment I didn’t even know was coming in till it was there?!

What is there not to love about this place? There's not cheaply made products it's always quality and worth the price. Everyone has always been so nice helpful and friendly whenever I have been in,(and we're talking about years and years of going). The greatest of all is many of my friends and myself call it the ATF because how many stores do you know of that you can go by Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in? Odds are you don't know of any other ones. This is without a doubt the best place on the island and maybe the planet for anyone who thinks their Civil Liberties are a good thing to have. Support J. Hara and support your freedoms while we still have them both.

It is what it is, a little of this, a little of that...they just might have it...or not. Half Ace Hardware, half 7-11, half World of Sports (fishing and hunting). Staff was helpful. Heck, they had some aquarium fish and stuff to sell, too.
