Took my first ever surf lesson from Rochelle and had SO MUCH FUN!! She is patient and on point with instruction. I felt safe and challenged the whole time and was able to stand up on almost every wave. The value for the cost of the lesson was amazing, if I had more time on Kauai I would definitely take a few more! She is also just really inspiring, energetic, and fun to be around! 😁

Got to meet the owner, Rochelle Ballard, and had 2 of the best teachers. Isaiah and Arya (?). They taught me how to spot and catch waves, were super patient with me. Two days later I’ve been out in Waikiki surfing every day all on my own! Great shop - worth every penny!

My mom and I took a lesson with Rochelle and had the best time. She was so sweet and provided such good instruction. She has such a great energy that made the experience feel so much fun and safe. We were both able to get up and ride several waves! We definitely hope to take another lesson when we come back to Kauai!

Great place to rent beach chairs and umbrellas, as well as snorkel and surfing gear.Very easy to pick up and drop off. Reasonable prices too - paid $10 per chair and $10 for an umbrella for a full day rental.The equipment was all in good condition and Tommy Bahama branded.They also do weekly rentals.

If you want to learn to surf, these are the folks to see. My wife and I and our 14 year-old twins spent the morning taking a lesson with Chris. He is so good, so chill, so focused on teaching how to enjoy the sport. “There’s no one right way to ride.” He put us in the groove from the get-go, and four of us got up on the first wave…and the fun continued from there. To Nukumoi, Rochelle and Chris — not only did y’all make our Kaua’i experience, we plan to bring your teachings home to Nantucket and continue our surfing journey.Mahalo! ☀️❤️👊🏽

They give you low quality that break first time you use it then charge 4 times what you pay. I recommend buying a foam board from Costco for 90 bucks.The board I was given

My 14 and 12 year old had a 1 hour lesson and they had a blast. The instructor Adam was amazing and I highly recommend him. It was really easy to check in and the surf spot was beautiful! The instructor Adam really gave them good tips. They liked it so much that we went back the next day to rent boards.

Great surf shop right at the beach... Quick rental, great price, excellent service and cool t-shirts and other gear at the shop. They pointed me in the right direction for an amazing left and right break right near the shop. Highly recommend!

The people in here are so rad! I love coming in here just to look around and chat with the employees. Literally everyone has the same cool down to earth personality that I love! We come here for all of our rental necessities such as paddle boards, surf boards, boogie boards, snorkel gear, and water shows. If you have any questions about using the gear or best times to go out! They are all pretty knowledgeable and love to share their knowledge. They also have a lot of good food and site seeing recommendations so if it’s your first time to the island I would definitely pick their brain for some hot local spots to check out. They have really good sales as well. So if you forgot your beach wear or want some more they typically have a 50% off rack with a bunch of stuff from sandals to bathing suits and rash guards.

My son and his "friend from France" rented boards here for a week, and they were both very happy with the price points, location, (south side) selection, friendliest service, and also the ability to exchange their boards during the week. That one was a game changer for sure ✔️ My son exchanged his boards 3 times in 8 days! well be back here when we return in May! See ya then? Mahalo 🤙

Great family owned place with great prices and wonderful vibes! Connor Helped us both times that we were in for a surfboard, snorkeling equipment, chairs and reef walkers. He was personable and knowledgeable and raved about the family owned company. If you’re in Poipu this is the place to rent your gear and find great clothing and people!

I misplaced my surf screws, which are cheap, but of course you need them. I spoke with the manager (Dan I think?) who made me feel like he was hooking me up by finding some old rusty ones that were laying around, but then he had one of his employees ring me up $10 for them. I literally thought he was joking when he charged me but realized he wasn’t. What a joke. So lame.

DO NOT RENT HERE! Their inventory is beat up and full of dings, which I mentioned upon renting. But, despite my better judgement, I went ahead with the board rental... So i return the board and they said everything was all good. What do you know, 30 minutes later they call saying I damaged the board I will need to pay a repair fee. I went back and told Andrea that I had not damaged the board and showed her all the dings I had pointed out before renting. She insisted there were two new dings and said it was $10 per ding in repair fees. Then, she opened the pricing book and said it was $65 per ding. Andrea then tells me she will consult with the rest of her "team" and call me back; that call comes and she then says it will be $75! this place is a total scam! DO NOT RENT HERE!

TL;DR: this Surf shop does NOT offer damage insurance and therefore I would STRONGLY suggest you rent elsewhere. I got charged $418 for a buckled surfboard.Do not ignore the other 1-star reviews here, unfortunately the business practice seems a bit predatory for tourists and amateur surfers. I’m going to try to keep this review as fair and honest as possible, but I really feel like I just got screwed by Nukumoi.Rented a surfboard from them, asked if they had damage insurance (they did not), and decided to go through with it anyways because they were most conveniently located to my condo. That was my mistake; in that moment I should have taken my business elsewhere. It’s also worth noting they were the only place I rented from during my 10-day stay on the island that didn’t offer damage insurance.Went out, had 2 fun days of surfing. I will be the first to admit that I am an amateur surfer, and while I caught plenty of waves, I had my healthy share of falls too.Well, I come back in to return the board, and they tell me it’s buckled and that I owe $520. Not sure when it happened, but apparently it happened during my rental. Doesn’t matter how many tourists put the board under some serious stress before me. The one star goes to the manager with the blonde hair who showed me some aloha by crediting my rental costs. But still, slapped in the face by a $418 charge on the final day of an otherwise awesome stay on Kauai, and the assistant kept his head down the whole time while swiping my credit card and ushering me out of the store as quickly as possible.All that to be said, if you don’t want to end up like me, please take your business elsewhere. Doesn’t seem right that a surf shop right next to a few intermediate/expert breaks and shallow reefs wouldn’t offer damage insurance. Sad that I’m leaving this island with a sour taste in my mouth but if this review helps one person avoid the same thing in the future then I’ve done my job.And to Nukumoi, please do what’s right and offer damage insurance so visitors can opt out of multi-hundred dollar charge with a small no-brainer payment. Once you do, I’ll happily recommend you to friends and family visiting the island in the future.Mahalo,Eric

This place is the best! Such a fun vibe and friendly crew. I did a semi-private lesson with my dad (62) and we had a blast. We were out there well past our time but our instructor (Adam) kept pushing to end the session on a good wave. Such a great experience. I highly recommend the surf lessons or even renting from them. Great staff and good vibes.

Great selection of rentals, rented a couple umbrellas and boards and the process was painless. Lost a couple of their stickers on the flight home and they were super helpful in allowing me to purchase a few by phone and mail them to me. Even took the time to put them in cardboard so they didn't get creased! Very nice staff

I would have to visit again to provide an accurate review, but off the cuff it was not as we expected. On the bright side, the staff was helpful and sympathetic when our mask broke multiple times.We rented snorkels and masks. The equipment was not in good condition. The purge valve on one had issues and was clearly worn out so it let water in. The headband on the other set was previously torn and weak so it snapped instantly. This happened again because we were given another set in similar condition. The 3rd set was already torn a tiny bit upon receiving so after a frustrating hour we just decided to turn it all in. No partial refund or other compromise was offered for such a short rental time frame and repeated equipment issues.If you get good equipment or are there for surf lessons or something maybe you'll have a better time. Ended up buying snorkel gear at Walmart which was much nicer and held up for a week of use without fear of breaking.

Don’t rent from this company. Stop by Costco and buy an umbrella and a boogie board. Their 24 hour rental means 24 hours. I rented an umbrella and a boogie board around Noon. I tried to return it that day and asked what their late return policy was, the employee told me that they are flexible and I can bring back within a couple of hours next day. I came back next day around 2pm. The counter person told me that they need to now charge me for another full day of rental. I explained to them what occurred a day before and I would have return it if that was the case. They charged me another full day for the return anyway without any exception or discount. It’s crazy that their emplyees are not trained or they are just lying.

This place has a good selection is relatively cheap compared to what the nearby hotels offer - a soft board was $6 for one hour and $25 for the day, a hard board was be $8/$30. There's also all sort of surfing equipment, the place is stacked but a bit messy

My wife & I took a surf lesson with the Nukumoi crew this afternoon. These guys are very friendly, affordable, knowledgeable & all about making sure you have a great time.While the whole squad was helpful & fun, we were lucky enough to have Jimmy as our personal instructor. Jimmy is rad & keeps it fun while still being informative 100% of the time. My wife has never been surfing & he had her standing confidently by her second wave (no joke). So, if you’re thinking about taking a surf lesson on the south side of Kauai & want the best experience/atmosphere, hit up Nukumoi Surf Co!Also, they’ve got all kinds of great merchandise/gear & very affordable rentals for just about everything. He can also tell you some great stories about growing up on the beach at Poipu.The swap meet that they have once a month is a great place to pick up an old rental board for a great price.

Rented a board that broke a few minutes into my first day. Their equipment is really beat up. Talked to the staff and they wouldn't work with me. Manager wouldn't even come out to talk to me face to face. Won't rent from them again. Go somewhere else for better service.
