Updated: we went back again got a bunch of great pastries and also realized that out of all the coffee we tasted on the island, this was the best. It is mellow and fruity, no harsh bitter roast flavors . All the employees are super nice too. Just had to say - best coffee ever.Awesome place. Great place with great coffee and friendly service. Really cool old school architecture feels like an old time roadside general store

A phenomenal find on the big island! Everything we tried here was delicious. Tons of gluten free (gf) options and some vegan ones as well. If you ask they will make you a grilled cheese on their homemade gf focaccia bread, which is so good!!If you come mid morning they’ll likely have banana bread, which was incredible warmed up. Loved their smoothies, you could make your own combo and we particularly enjoyed an OJ base with dragon fruit, mango, & strawberries. They open at 5:30 so we were able to stop here on the way to the airport, which was a treat.Everyone working here was delightful and kind, even when the line was out the door and they were swamped with orders. The baked goods felt really reasonably priced, particularly for being gf and in Hawaii (as of 2024 there were gf baked goods for under $4 a piece!).Such a gem, would return anytime & highly recommend!! They have indoor and outdoor seating, some toys and books for kids, and a fun selection of locally made items & art.Dietary restrictions: Gluten free & vegan options! The majority of their baked goods were gluten free, and their homemade gf focaccia bread was unbelievably good

We really enjoyed our quick breakfast at Kaya’s. Casual atmosphere with plenty of options - we tried the Pete Special, an everything bagel with cream cheese, pesto, tomato, cheese, and sprouts, and the PB&J granola bar. Both were delicious. My matcha latte was well-made. Overall, a great place to stop for a coffee and breakfast treat before a day of exploring the island.

Kaya’s was a nice cafe that served good coffee and vegan/GF friendly food! We ordered a large hot and iced white mocha, green smoothie, Egg & Cheese on Everything Bagel, Pete Special, and a Lazy Samoa. The coffees were strong and flavorful without being overly sweet. The smoothie was fresh and the ingredients worked well together - It does not look green because of the blueberries but tasted very good! The egg and cheese bagel was good and satisfying. The Pete Special is a handful but so delicious! The pesto cream cheese was delightful! The ambiance was also chill and had a lot of local goods for sale. Service was decent.Overall, recommend for a good cup of coffee and a healthy meal.

Wow. We had the Pete Special and it was phenomenal. It's an open-faced bagel topped with pesto, cream cheese, eggs, cheese, onions, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, and avocado. Though that's all we got, we highly recommend this place. The vegetables were so fresh and everything worked so well together. There's indoor and outdoor seating. It seemed like a good place for people to meet up for coffee and a quick bite.

I got the build your own sandwich with a bagel, jalapeño cream cheese, tomato, and sprouts. Which was pretty solid.Careful with the prices because they are not laid out very clearly. For example the sandwiches don’t tell you that it’s 2 extra dollars for a bagel in the same spot on the menu as the sandwich option. And printed menus don’t match the big menu on the wall.Overall vibe was warm and inviting.

Really a gem of a spot. We stumbled across Kaya’s on our family vacation. We were looking for just some coffee and tea and ended up eating breakfast here. The vegan / plant based food here is incredible. Highly recommend eating here. We are in the restaurant and we love the all natural vibe but it would be great to have the place cleaned up a bit. Tables weren’t very clean nor the surroundings inside. Overall, 4.5/5 a must try if you’re on big island.Vegetarian options: All veganDietary restrictions: Great for vegans!Kid-friendliness: Toys for kids but not so clean

Hands down one of the best bagels I’ve ever eaten, and I’m from NYC, so that’s saying something. I ordered “The Favorite” off of the menu and I was far from disappointed! The egg was soft, and the bagel was toasted to perfection. The staff there is super friendly, delivering aloha to all the customers that walked through that door. The lavender iced coffee was awesome as well! This was the only place I stopped to eat at in my 12 hours of being on the Big Island, and it was well worth the money I spent. I recommend everybody coming to this spot, you won’t regret it!!

Mmm mm mm bagel sandwiches for breakfast or lunch. Eat in or take out, either way gives the chance to browse local artist's work. Pottery, paintings, jewelleries and handicrafts, and local gourmet foods. It's a locals and tourists spot. Not a lot of tables so always good to share. The veggie sandwich bagel is a 10.You can can also make your own bagel and choose from a variety of cheeses and spreads and delicious crunchy veggies. The green onion spread was super good with avocado, cukes, onion and sprouts.Chill environment - highly recommend.

One of the best parts of sitting in the resort pool and chatting it up with other guests is the exchange of ideas for where to go. We were directed to Kayas Coffee at the recommendation of a senior couple so the next day we made the short hop on our way out to do a few other activities. Not much of a presence, just a simple location on the side of Highway 11 on Hawaii. Kayas is primarily vegan with no real appreciable presence of meat. The coffee was good but the smoothies were really good with lots of fruit flavours coming through. The breakfast sandwichs were quite good with an ample pile of greens piled on top. Each sandwich is made to order so expect a bit of a wait especially if there are a few other orders in front of you. Not much selection of other breakfast bakings such as muffins, etc. We ordered a couple of different scones which were quite tasty. If you are a purist, then look them up otherwise if you like your breakfast to be hearty, then keep driving a bit longer.

It wasn't that busy for the length of time for my son's order. I had already eaten that morning so I didn't order anything. Though the place is so dirty, I'm glad I did. Cobwebs and dust on surfaces. I understand the old building, but if this is how the front of the house looks, what is the back of the house like? The person who took my son's order argued with him about the spelling of his name, what's with that? When the staff took a break, they just ate behind the counter. The homeless guy swearing at everybody lent a lot to the ambiance of the place. Sorry to say, won't be going again or recommending. It seems to be popular though.

I loved this place so much that we went here 2 days in a row! The overall vibe of this old time general store is so cool. The menu is great - I had 2 different breakfast sandwiches (the jalapeño cheddar bagel is so soft and perfect for a sandwich). The iced coffee was great (add coconut syrup because Hawaii). But oh my god, their homemade kombucha is to die for. I’m not a huge kombucha fan but theirs is so fresh that it’s impossible to not want more. You’ll never want to drink pre-bottled mass produced kombucha again. Even if there is a line it is so worth the wait.

Cool spot that we visited for breakfast before a day of coffee farm tours. There was a line out the door, but it moved ok and we still were able to eat at a table. The Pete Special hit the spot, as well as the Lavender Cardamom Mocha latte!

Stopped by here after reading all the great reviews and was not disappointed. The food and drinks are delicious and the staff are all very friendly. My partner and I both got the Pete special which was an open face bagel with egg, cheese, and veggies which was absolutely delicious. My only comment is I wish there was more seating. It seems to be a very popular spot for locals and there were many people working on laptops inside.

Wow! Absolutely incredible breakfast, coffee and dessert options! Absolutely killer! The gluten free options are amazing and that is not an easy task, but they pull it off! This is a must if you are on Kona!Dietary restrictions: Perfect for those with Celiacs! And the food is incredible!

I had the salami sandwich. When we arrived there was quite a line waiting outside to order. It took us 20 minutes to get to the front. Once you order you have to wait for your name to be called. Seating is severely limited. If you come here be prepared to wait for some time to order. The food is local and organic.
