We needed help getting our beloved fur baby of eight years to be able to fly to our new home with us. He was diagnosed as having heartworms but otherwise in perfect health. We took him to Big Island Pet Care Center to get his health inspection within the 10 days needed to fly a dog. We are flying him to Oregon, which does not have any restrictions on heartworms. He is healthy but she refused to sign the health certificate based on her own capitalistic morals. She wanted us to start a round of medication that WILL reduce his life expectancy IF IT DOESN’T KILL HIM. I wanted to start him on Ivermectin which research has shown to sterilize the worms and shorten the life of the worms. He would be non-transmissible and it would shorten the life cycle of the worms themselves. She coldly refused and said she would prefer us to take him to an animal shelter or foster care center. She’d rather split up the family and risk his life on the newest most toxic treatment than allow us to treat him more safely with family around.What kind of awful heartless vet does that?

The doctors here are very special.The last two times I've found injured or neglected dogs they managed to fit me in and get the animals all the care they needed to be healthy again.They are definitely animal lovers, and I'm grateful every day for the help they have given my two new companions.

My dog cut her paw and woke up with it super swollen. After speaking with reception and sending pictures via email, they agreed that she needed to be seen right away to treat for infection. The grounds of the veterinary office were beautiful, and the front desk staff was quick and attentive. We arrived a bit early, but were called in almost immediately. Dr. Grune and his staff were SO KIND. He did a quick examination, wrote up a couple prescriptions, and we were on our way! I was expecting the emergency visit to cost several hundred dollars, but Dr. Grune changed it and just charged me for a regular visit plus the meds. I think the total came out to like $127, which is significantly lower than expected and less than I have ever paid for a pet injury. I couldn’t be happier with the care my pup received or the kindness I was shown. Thank you BIPCC!

Brought my great in to have a gash stitched up. My vet is Dr Grune who is excellent. That day I got Dr Kayley Dayton. Never gave me a pre form to sign. Stated I would have folloe up appt for removal. No forms signed. I had to cut stitches out of the wound. She then accused me of physical assault and trying to steal out of pharmacy. All have been proved false. Office manager with her have passed this to vets and public. Office manager fired witnesses. Negligence of taking care of my vet then attacking me have forced me to file formal charges. All my dogs have been transfered to nowhere while owner was unaware. Don't go there. Waiting for hours for a visit, vets overcharging and sexual misconduct in office involving Office manager. Grune you can trust. No one else

wow! show up for my puppies appointment 825am on a saturday morning. Was told we will not be coming inside with puppy due to him possibly having parvo. No one came out to get him until around 850am. It is now 10am and I just got home, ( we live down the street). Not once did the "vet" talk to us at all, now complaining because we "left." No-incorrect; I let the tech know my daughter pooped and we live down the street, asking if I should just wait on them or since they had my puppy inside, run home and change my daughter. I told the nice tech lady that i can wait another 20 mins, no big deal and she told me to go ahead and go home to change my daughter while they have my puppy. Yet they continue to accuse me of leaving my puppy there? Get real. Be honest! I was back within 15 minutes and you still were not ready for another 15mins while daughter and I sat in the car!) You charged us $374. Also, we were told the vet or technicians will show us how to post ears that were cropped. Instead, they decided to tell me while there with my daughter, on a saturday morning, they wont help my dogs ears AT ALL, because they weren't the ones whom "cropped" them. Well Dr Groom did crop my friends doberman puppy and he BOTCHED the ears! He caused their puppy to have a horrific ear infection!!!!! I am terribly sorry the breeder my husband got this puppy from already came this way. What does it matter?! This is not a human being here! This is a puppy that needs care and to tell me you're not helping because you didn't perform the procedure?? What sort of egotistical nonsense is that? You're not "vet-doctor" simply put, if you're more interested in MONEY and your EGO then an animals CARE! PS after charging me almost $400, no ONE EXPLAINED HOW OFTEN/HOW MUCH OF THIS NEW WET DOG FOOD YOU MADE ME BUY HIM! NOT ONE TECH COULD EXPLAIN DOES THAT NEW FOOD REPLACE HIS KIBBLE 4 TIMES A DAY OR WHAT? I TOLD THEM HE HAD NOT ATE YET SO WHAT DO I FEED HIM? IT'S NOW 11127AM, NO ONE CALLED TO EXPLAIN STILL. *Tiffany their receptionist hung up on me as well when I tried to find out what the name of their office manager was. I called back several times and they ignored my calls until I called as a private caller. Lol. Some true aloha Ridiculous

I started to take my Pom when she was pup. Services were great no complaints. She been going there for over 3 years for check up and flea meds. I took her on Monday to check for pregnancy and sure enough she was. They confirmed it by taking a blood test that was quoted $60 in the examination room and billed $100 for which was fine I didn’t care. Gave her an X-ray to see how many and possibly how far but they wanted to do another test for that but I didn’t have the money so I said no thank you. Bill came out to $260, fine no problem. Here’s my problem, I was told that she could give birth at anytime and if I have any problems to bring her back or call them. So today is Thursday I have a problem, she’s still pregnant and has brown discharge. I call them and tell them what happened, they call me back and say “the Dr isn’t familiar with my dog and that the Dr doesn’t know much about pregnancies and that I should call other vets” they were polite enough to give me other numbers but WTH! I’m so confused and left feeling completely helpless and abandoned . This is unacceptable.

I cannot overstate how wonderful my experience was at this vet today. Such a kind and helpful experience. I came in with a toddler and an injured and slightly scared cat. They helped me with both, as I needed help with getting a stroller up and down the stairs. They took great care of my sweet kitty, and beyond that they were very fast, and way less expensive than all the other vets I have seen in the past. Definitely 10/10 would recommend! I don’t think I will ever go anywhere else. Truly a great experience. And my kitty friend is healing nicely.Mahalo nui loa Big Island Pet Care Center! I could not be any happier with my experience today.

I have taken my little Ragdoll Siamese here twice now and I’m very happy with this vet it’s a nice smaller office with friendly supportive staff. A little bit of an extended 20 wait time past last appointment time but they had just completed surgery and had people waiting, I’m overall very happy and I highly recommend Big Island Pet Care Center!

I read some of the reviews of this place before taking my new Humane Society dog for her first appointment. I'm so glad I did. The bad reviews are far scarier than the place. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they are really close to where I live and my new dog has some bad car anxiety. The staff could not have been nicer. They were incredibly sweet to my nervous and car sick rescue dog. Their kindness put both she and me at ease. These guys are awesome, don't let a couple bad reviews shadow all the great ones they've got. I wouldn't never ever put any animal in harm's way, and this is a great vet place.

Amazing staff, decent prices and extremely knowledgeable staff. My mini daschund usually never uses the bathroom inside, but he has only been to the vet at birth for shots, one near death experience and his last visit for vaccinations to travel. He relieved himself without my knowledge and offered to clean up, but the staff were happy to do it. Very thankful for that. They were gentle with him, quick and efficient.

My dog has been treated at Big Island Pet Care for about four or five years now. She is on several medications which give her a much better quality of life. I recently needed the refills to be approved via WalmartPetRX by The doctor. The doctor and the staff were absolutely awesome! They way they interact with your pet is just wonderful. They always have fit me in for appointments and refills without delay, along with very reasonable prices.There is a reason why I have used this office for several years! It’s simple. They really care about your pet.

We had an appt. for 11am and we arrived 10 minutes early. They made us wait 35 minutes BECAUSE THEY DECIDED TO GO ON BREAK. Keep in mind that THEY told us what time to come. We had Dr. Sarah Ortega, and honestly her advice did help us, but the way she was talking to us made us feel uncomfortable. When we would answer her questions, she would look at the nurse and that made us feel like we were being judge by them. The only person who had great service was the front desk receptionist.

Amazing vets. They truly care about your pet. I'm warm and fuzzy all over from how awesome they treated our mangey rescue dog. The worst vet I have ever dealt with. They told us one price, then jacked up our bill when it was time to leave, then wouldn't honor what they told us on the phone. Now they can't find our paperwork so we can't order our prescription from pet meds. Not only is this the worst vet I've ever worked with, they're one of the worst companies PERIOD I've ever dealt with. Dishonest, disorganized, unprofessional... I'd go elsewhere if I were you.
