A nice place for an original statue of King Kamehameha from 1880!It is a wonderful reminder of the history of Hawai'i.I didn't walk in/around the building but there's lots of inflation if you like to read that. There is also a veterans tribute signage as well.

The entire grounds are well manicured with well kept restroom facilities. Kept in its turn of the century original form. More than adequate parking on the grounds. The ancient game stones remain accessible with no barrier as is the sacred statue of the Great One. The unpolished solid wood pughs are original and a comfortable resting place in shade on the wrap around porch with a water fountain. There's a Veterans Memorial dating from WW1 serving as the backdrop to the Militant King who united the Island Kingdom with an eerily interesting history of the lost, but then miraculously recovered shipwrecked statue from the Pacific depths, to its original and final resting place in Kohala. A most fantastic feature at the birthplace of a sacred and most celebrated King of the Aloha State.

The history of how much was gone through to get the statue there and just keep it up is amazing. King Kamehameha was truly a good man, and the story is definitely a good one!

I just love this original statue of the great King. Today when I drove there, there was a huge school bus crowd that blocked every view, except the back! Here are my photos. Glorious weather!

What makes this a worthwhile stop is the setting and care they have shown. The statue is especially bright and colorful, more so than any statue like this I’ve seen. There are placards that discuss more of the Hawaiian King. Also there is a memorial to Hawaiian war veterans. For photographers looking for a striking image or to just stroll around the grounds, a worthwhile stop.

This statue was lost at sea and retrieved, the story of this statue is absolutely fascinating. The north end of the big island is some of the most beautiful ground on the face of the planet. Worth the drive, it sort of feels like you are driving off the map out into the country. There's an art gallery and a snack shop across the street to take a look at as well.

This was an Honor to visit, The history is rich here you only have to feel it!!! I love exploring the Big Island - I feel for its people and all that was robbed from them - If we could turn back time ... but we can not ... Sadly - Hawaii and its 1 kind that brought the Islands together.... and I feel if he was here today he would bring it back to his people!!!

We don’t really have any plans to come up here but we ended doing it because it was a little windy that day. I’m actually really glad we came up here and saw the statue. It’s a cool landmark for you to come visit. I’m not saying you’re gonna spend the whole day here but you could spend a little bit of time and check it out. There’s some great information on the king here and what he did for the Hawaiian people. There’s also a great area if you wanna have a picnic lunch. This place is located right next to the police station

While picturesque, the building itself was closed. We were able to take photos of the statue and there was a display about that particular statue but we didn't see anything about why the boulders, their dimples, or even something about the tree, which must have been quite large at one time and was now just a stump. We went across the street and spent some time at the Ackerman studios to pass the time.

Many thanks to Army National Guard Auxiliary of Kapa'au for allowing us to fly my wife's American flag which will be presented to her at her retirement in the fall.

Since King Kamehameha is the most popular Hawaiian king, it's not difficult to find and see his statue from different Hawaiian island. But, this is the original statue of King Kamehameha. On the way to Polulu valley, you may stop by here to see the original one. You could feel and experience how this king lived before if you visit Hawi where this statue stands.

You have to pay homage to the king when visiting the Big Island. The other statue on the island is in the middle of Hilo. We drove here from Kona and it was a gorgeous drive. If you're looking for good souvenirs the little shops lining the streets near the statue had the best variety.

We drove up the coast from Kona and set this as our destination. It's not worth a special trip, unless you are interested in the history. It's just a small statue right off the highway. Since it was sprinkling rain we didn't even get out of the car, just turned around in the parking lot. We found a nice beach park a little further up the road so the trip wasn't a total bust.

If you are on the Big Island and looking for some history and adventure, then drive on up to the far north part of the Big Island. This is an awesome spot and well worth the trip. Visit one of the "Shore Access" spots, it will be an awesome day.

You have to go way up north on the big island to find this, but it is worth the drive! Also, this GIGANTIC stump is 12' across! What must this tree have looked like while it was still standing?!?

If you are interested not only in the beach and surf, visit this place and read a little of the Hawaiian history on the walls of the hall. Some 1800 buildings still remains.
