I cannot even begin to explain how awesome this place is! It's a real old school pet store like I haven't seen in decades. They have the BEST animal selection! They actually have pure breeds of dogs in there all the time. I almost died the last time I went there because they had 5 Frenchie puppies for sale. Do you know how hard those are to find here!? They have the cutest bunnies on earth, turtles, birds, fish in the back. The staff is really awesome. They don't judge me when I'm squealing at the top of my lungs because something is so cute; I start doing it and don't even realize it until I'm like, supersonic loud... lol! It's really difficult not to because every time you turn around, you see some new animal that adorable!

We told Matt about a fish that died (that we'd bought from the store less than two weeks prior) and he immediately gave us a replacement and advice on what to do differently. So far, the fish is doing very well. This is a clean, well-lit store that has a great selection of products and a knowledgeable, friendly staff!

I wish I could give them a big fat ZERO stars. They do not treat their animals well. The know NOTHING about the animals they sell, meaning until you buy them, these animals are living horrible, unhappy lives. Unhappy animals means unhealthy; unhealthy means they'll either die in the store or have health problems when you adopt them. THIS PLACE SHOULDN'T BE OPERATIONAL.ADOPT, DONT SHOP.The more you buy from pet stores, the more they will treat animals this way. PLEASE don't support storing animals like this.again pls, ADOPT, DONT SHOP.

I recently went here. 2.8 stars rating I haven't seen before I came here. Disappointing reading the ratings. The puppies looked tired and unhappy. ZI have seen a lack of staff here and read the reviews. Turns out the puppies have worms. I can't recommend going here to buy pets. If you go here, only observe the pets. The pets here look unhappy and mainly the puppies.

I’m sure this place is really awesome but I showed up two minutes after they closed (which is on me, but their website said they close at 9 so i figured I would be fine) I knocked on the door and the lady wouldn’t even give me the time of day and said she wouldn’t let me in, which I get but at the same time she and her coworker were in such a hurry to leave I guess. Then I proceeded to call the phone number and they answered and I asked if they had the item I needed which was kind of important, some milk replacement formula for some abandoned kittens we found yesterday, the lady then said yes and I told her I was here and she said oh sorry we are closed. Maybe just bad timing on things but I just assumed that people that work at pet stores love and care about animals, not enough I guess :/ sorry guys hate to leave a bad review but was pretty disappointed in that!

Walking by this pet store was upsetting. It’s filled with hordes of animals in different restricted containers being gawked at and prodded by people passing through the mall. Front and center I found several puppies in glass-walled containers laying down glumly in piles of shredded newspaper. They should not be there, waiting to be exchanged for some money in the owner’s pocket. Where did these dogs come from? We can do better than selling dogs like some playground equipment. Next to it is a disquieting black hole of rubber filled with koi. Assorted other animals too large for their cages are scattered about amongst the rest of the clutter. I want to know where this store sources their “products”—these animals—and would be interested in the business practices of those places as well. Place was unacceptable and should go.

The owner just approached me and said my dog peed in the back yesterday and we're not allowed in. We NEVER go to the back. He kept LIEING, OVER AND OVER. Low T beta Male. Shaking as he called for security.

I love the variety of Pets and how spacious it is. They have rabbits, turtles, puppies, and so much more. Their variety of fish is beautiful. I have bought two beautiful huge Male Fantails from Ko’olau Pets!!!👍👍👍

Walked in here while shopping at the mall, was shocked by how horrible the living conditions for the animals are in there. Every cage just had shredded newspaper with nothing else, puppies were crammed together in the boxes, same with the other animals. There was a dead fish in the Koi tub. Every single creature in there seemed depressed, I have never been in a pet store where the animals were acting in such a way. Adopt don’t shop all the way, do not support this business.

Their fish selection was pretty good and so are their prices. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable I just really wish they didn't sell teeny tiny plastic containers as suitable betta habitats. 😔

Me and my husband love this place! They keep their fish healthy. The prices for fish are decent. They have every intermediate tool you could need. We love walking into this store every weekend and never get tired of what they have. We bought our puppy about 7 months ago and we love him so much. They were the best from the moment we asked to see him to the moment we walked out with our new son. We could tell that they really take care of their animals. Puppy was healthy. He was staying in good conditions. He was already pee pad trained! We will forever love this place!

Store is super cluttered of people just coming in to look at the animals. The store itself is put together okay. The puppies are advertised at bought/rescued locally. Although they are super over priced on certain breeds/mixed breeds.

Believe nothing of what this store tells you about a puppy breed. They told me I bought a “Jack Russel/Corgi mix” and “Jack Russel Chihuahua mix”. I got Embark DNA test and they were really a “Chihuahua/Pitt bull/rat terrier/basenji.” And the other dog a “Chihuahua/Pitt bull”. So ZERO percent Jack Russel! Don’t do business with these liars and find a reputable breeder.

6/17/2021 Wandered in and saw piggies, puppies, bunnies, Jackson chameleons, crickets, birds, Betta fish (a huge selection), and other tropical fish, plants, and pet supplies. My friend and I were approached by more than one salesperson and asked if we needed help. When we replied that we were just browsing, the staff encouraged us to, "Make sure and ask if you need anything." Pleasant salespeople! It was fun looking the variety of pets and items that they had.

Its an ok pet store. I don't know how they price their animals. Puppies w/o papers are like buying a car without a title. How can you ask $3k for a puppy without papers? Either way it's a fun visit for my daughter and I whenever we go to the mall. She loves looking at all of the pets.

I think this store deserves much credit because of the way they keep space open for people to look at their animals despite large crowds of people (and kids). I'm glad this business is in Windward mall, and I hope the mall recognizes how nice it is to have a mini-zoo in their mall! Prices for pet supplies are not bad when you find those sale items and they have a great selection of fish, birds and reptiles.

All 3 teen employees sitting and standing in the nook by the register looking at their phones, laughing and talking story. Offering NO "Hi, welcome, may I help you find anything?" WAY overpriced parakeets ($39.99!!!!!), and other dusty outdated looking items. Plus cages, food and water bowls, betta cups and fish tanks were filthy and or empty as the 3 employees SAT at the register looking at their phones when they should have been taking care of the animals. The tall kid that rang me up didn't even look or talk to me as he rang me up, he just talked to the chubby girl sitting behind him and asked what she was laughing at on her phone. Note: We used to love this store about 5 years ago.

I have bought two dogs and a tortoise from here, but be warned, both my dogs had worms that they needed to be treated for, and I bought these dogs over a year apart from each other. Thankfully, the store will cover the cost of the treatment since it was pre-existing. They have all the pet basics like food, accessories and treats for your furry, feathered or reptile family members. It's all a bit overpriced, though.

Bought a AKC Purebred pup, great price, great experience, great pup. Also, bought stuff like my go to dog shampoo, down fall went to give my pup a bath and the bottle was full, but not of dog soap, instead someone clearly emptied the bottle & filled it with water. 🤦🏼‍♀️😭 $14.99 Wasted & I now need to go get a new bottle so that I can give my pup her first bath.Update: called the store & was told to bring it in to exchange for a new bottle. 🤦🏼‍♀️ He seemed duped to. I am pretty sure someone used, filled with water & returned. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I recently purchased an 8 week old bunny from this place about 9 days ago.I am completely disgusted with them. When I took her home I first noticed her feet were covered in urine and bunny poop she also looked terrified out of her mind and had good eyes and snot coming out of her nose. Her urine was a dark orange/red and she was having mushy stool. I went in to speak with someone about it (because the papers I signed stated I could call or come in and they would try to help)but nobody that was a rabbit specialist was available to help answer my questions so a regular worker told me not to worry too much. My bunny is currently admitted at an animal hospital with an upper respiratory infection and she’s going into GI Stasis (which can be fatal within hours). This poor little bunny is suffering and they had the audacity to sell her. Luckly I am able to and will take care of her as much as I can. Think twice before purchasing any small rodents from this place.

Went into this pet shop today, what a shock! The workers just do not care about the animals. The animal cages are DISGUSTING.. let me elaborate, the mice had NO mouse covers in there so there left to huddle together with no shelter in the freezing cold, the water looked as if it had not been changed in days (food and dirt was in it), the ‘betta’ fish were all stacked onto each other making it impossible for them to be fed.. there were dogs there and they were underweight. Do NOT take in animals and fish that you cannot look after! To top it off the fish tanks for the gold fish and tropical fish out the back were extremely dirty. I’m not sure how this pet shop is still running, I have never ever seen a pet shop this bad in my whole entire life to the point that I had to leave straight away. I honestly felt like yelling at the workers. If you’re an animal lover like me please do not go in as you’ll upset yourself. I hope this place gets shut down, this pet shop doesn’t even deserve one star.

Always love coming to this place!!! The staff are very helpful and cheerful. They always have great animals for people to buy ranging from their fish to sometimes a pot belly pig. The animals look very well taken care off.

Staff has been very kind to my family everytime we visit. They know we're not even there to really buy anything. Mainly there so my baby girl can look at some pets and laugh. If I ever need to buy a puppy, I'm coming here. I saw some english bulldog pups here for a few thousand. Cheaper than other stores so far. I was extremely tempted to buy one, but of course I had to hold back.

If you're in a pinch for pet supplies or need to get a puppy craving satisfied, stop into Koolau Pets. Since they're located in the mall and are a small business, the cost of items is a little higher than you would find elsewhere. They do carry a good variety of items: chicken feed and supplies, aquarium, cat, dog, reptile, and bird accouterments.They have live pets too; from puppies, birds, rabbits, lizards, fish, turtles, and shrimp. It's the most convenient place to buy a furry or scaled friend on the windward side.In addition to pet supplies, they stock a good number of plush animals (like Beanie Babies) and realistic plastic animal toys (lions, horses, dragons, etc.). If you're with kids, the pet shop would be a great place to stop into after going to Fun Factory next door!
