We stopped by here after visiting rainbow falls. What a little gem of a store! The baked items were delicious and the homemade jams were wonderful too, it was hard to choose which flavor to take home! We chose pineapple mango and sweet potato and coconut. Definitely recommend and would come back!

Stopped by after visiting Akaka Falls when we noticed this area had a bunch of cute little shops. Never have I seen so many flavoured jams before. We went to the bakery section and picked up Guava bearclaw as suggested by the kid at the counter. It was soooo goood ❤️ perfectly made with the right amount of sugar (not too sweet) and the bread was sooo soft that I could have eaten it without the jam too! It was also big enough (little bigger than the picture as I had eaten some already) to fill you or share with a partner.

Great little place that we found on our way to the Akaka Falls State Park. Make sure to make a stop on your way back from the waterfalls and taste the delicious shave ice and add some ice cream to it (6$) - it was super delicious. We also got some mouth watering baked turnovers with lemon and blueberry - highly recommend themThe shave ice cone is super cheap (compared to other shave ice spots in Hilo) and the atmosphere in as well as around the store is also enjoyable. So don't just pass this little gem, but get yourself some authentic Hawaiian bread and the famous shave ice.

We had vouchers for breakfast from the hotel down the road, so we enjoyed cookies and breakfast sandwiches each morning. This is a small business run by friendly locals. They have delicious baked goods, we especially loved the passion fruit shortbread cookies. They also have a huge selection of jams, jellies, and fruit butter. We ended up buying eight jars and having them shipped home. They arrived intact and incredibly well packed. Shipping was a reasonable price and they give discounts if you buy and ship in bulk. We would have loved to try their shave ice as well, but did not get a chance. Definitely check this place out on your way to or from Akaka Falls.Vegetarian options: Most of the baked goods are vegetarian. They can also make an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich.

This place is such a cool spot! The baked goods are simply incredible. The jams and preserves are out of this world. Don’t skip the breakfast sandwiches either, they’re made fresh to order and the flavors are absolutely amazing. 👌🏻👌🏻

Must stop when you visit akaka falls. The young kids working were so awesome + knowledgeable. They told us exactly where to go catch tad poles:) and knew the history of the building. Cool historical pictures too. Shaved ice starts at only $4.95. In Hilo it's around $7. There can be a wait if there's alot if peoole ordering shaved ice because there's only one station. Shortbread chocolate chip cookies were $5 and really good. We didn't sample the jam but there was a ton of different flavors.

We were staying at a cabin nearby that provided some coupons for free breakfast here. Mr Ed was already up and running at 6am with pastries and not coffee - which was great because I had an early flight to catch. I had a bear claw with apple filling and it was yummy. It was so big that I had the other half the following day for breakfast. Mr Ed was super friendly too and chatted with us about life on the island.

A great out of the way store where locals hang out and you can get the fluffiest shave ice around. The service was great and it was a good place to stop for a snack and just relax for a while. The cookies were awesome too, we had the ginger and the snicker doodles. Mahalo!

This is our second time visiting Mr. Ed's Bakery and this time it was for the Thanksgiving Feast! Mr. Ed is a kind human-being. He takes the time to speak to his customers and genuinely gets to know who you are and where you are coming from. The Thanksgiving meal was absolutely delicious. Mr. Ed and his staff host locals, tourists, and people without meal on Thanksgiving...for FREE! We made sure to purchase the awesome desserts and leave a great tip. Hope to see you again Mr. Ed!

Ed is super friendly and talked aittle bit of his backstories on how him and his wife started the bakery. Now there are over 100 jams flavor, about 95% of the fruits used are grown on the island, and you can sample all flavors (if you have the time)!I Tried the apple bearclaw, it was really good, not too sweat and the bread is super fluffy. And the amazing Hawaiian bread sausage egg sandwich. Truly one of hidden little gem on the Hilo side of island, a must stop if you're visiting Hilo.

I am blown away by the workers that run this shop! I came for a pastry and a jar of jam and I ended up buying 8 jars shipped to my home! Trace and his brother are simply two of the most hardworking employees I have ever met! Trace patiently answered ALL of my questions as he made me try the flavors I asked for. They literally have everything and they were all so yummy! i also tried their coconut macaroons and it was just like when my aunt made it in the Philippines. I arrived in NC last Thursday and the jams were at my door Friday! Missing the big island so much but having my Kona coffee with jam on my crackers this morning extended my vacation. Mr Ed those young men deserve a raise! The customer service is unparalleled! Highly recommended!

We stopped here after walking the trail at 'Akaka Falls, and had a great time browsing the incredibly selections of jams, jellies, and butters made at this shop! The range of selections at Mr. Ed's is frankly incredible, and we could have spent at least another hour just looking at all of the flavors. We ended up buying a few jars of the newer Pineapple Mango jelly, but even from sampling other flavors it was clear that Mr. Ed's goes above and beyond to get the freshest and most flavorful fruit for their products. The gentlemen working at Mr. Ed's were also very patient and knowledgable, and explained all the different flavors and even some of the production process to our curious family. Would highly recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth/who loves fruit!

We stopped here heading to Akaka Falls, it's conveniently located on the way. It's a great Hawaiian bakery, opens early with coffee, huge selection of baked goods, beverages, fresh fruits, lunch foods (American and Hawaiian), and even a gift section.

Apart from being the nicest guy we met in Big Island, Mr. Ed sells a yuuuuge selection of his own homemade jams and preserves, mostly made from exotic local fruits. These include many interesting combinations, which their friendly staff will let you taste for free. Definitely worth a visit. We ended up coming to just look and bought half the store. :) Our favorite was low-sugar lilikoi, but they were all delicious.
