One of the best humane society organizations I've ever experienced. I took a beautiful pup on a field trip for the day. It's a great experience for adopters and for the fur baby. He was adopted shortly after our field trip.Excellent and caring staff too!

Humane Society is my hero! I am a senior with less income than I used to have and wanted to spay my female dog, to ensure no more puppies. The Vet wanted around $500, which I just couldn't afford. Humane Society to the rescue! For a $50 donation, I could get my fur baby, Phoebe, spayed. I was able to donate more than $50, but was so grateful for the fabulous, caring, professional services. Spay coordinators Rhanie and Aimee, took care of all the details, and were so warm and caring, and tenderly cradled my fog, before and after surgery. All the staff and volunteers were truly fabulous. And the Humane Society campus is so beautiful...from the dog parks to the Welcome and Education Center. It was exciting to see the hospital, under construction, too. Our Humane Society provides so many great services, and I am proud to be a supporter!

We were visiting from the mainland and wanted to take a dog from the shelter on a field trip. If you can, do it. Its rewarding to be able to take a pup out on an adventure help them socialize and hopefully get noticed for an adoption. Also if your missing your doggo while on vacation it helps satisfy that until you can get back to your pup. We took our Melody. She was mellow and peaceful. Never once barked and was a lover, hopefully she gets adopted soon. The facility was amazing. They are doing great things on the big island!

This is a wonderful site. There are 2 dog parks, one for small dogs and another for the large dogs. Plenty of parking. There are restrooms. The facilities for the animals are great including water in both parks The staff is very friendly. They are always looking for volunteers, so if you have some time to give, this is a great place to go! Just remember it's closed on Tuesday and Thursday.

This was a lovely, open-air shelter where the dogs and cats and other animals were all extremely calm and complacent. Coming from a place that houses up to 500 cats and 350 dogs, seeing such a small but caring establishment was extremely refreshing. All the cats were friendly and all the dogs seemed incredibly happy. If you need to adopt an animal in Kona, I would highly recommend these guys!

The Field Trips for Shelter Dogs program is absolutely amazing. The facility is beautiful and the staff were so warm and appreciative. The only thing you need to be aware of is you might end up adopting your field trip dog (I can talk from experience here). They made the off island adoption process seamless and so quick! I will forever be grateful for the Hawai'i Island Humane Society. You have nothing to loose by visiting them and everything to gain! The BEST vacation souvenir I ever brought home (:

I cannot say enough about this place! It's a beautiful facility, the staff is friendly and caring. I had to drive from Hilo to have them euthanized my 16 year old kitty because I could not find a vet in Hilo to help my cat. (You can see my story and review under Island Veterinary service.) They definitely made the experience better under the circumstances. They gave me a sympathy card with Tigger's paw prints and a package of kleenex. So thoughtful 💕 It was comforting to have such kindness during a difficult time. Thank you HIHS!

Kona HUMANE society!??? I'm still having nightmares and can't sleep. Contacted them for end of Life Service for my 120lb Doberman. They contacted me with a date and time to bring her in. When i get there ,They told me to fill out their form and check the box to receive the remains back or have them dispose of the remains. I checked a box. The woman told me to wait outside for 15 minutes and they'll bring her out. I waited outside for my dogs ashes then I see two employees rolling out a cart that had a big round ball on top of it wrapped in 2 old bright red Christmas blankets covering a black rubbish bag.. I said ..what is that, never imaging that could be my 120lb Doberman rolled up like a ball..not possible..my dog is huge! They then told me that their freezer is full and that they stopped doing cremation . At this point I'm in total shock and tears. My mind still can't process that my dead precious huge dog looks like a round ball and is really inside these blankets and black rubbish bag. They load her in the kennel in back my truck. I drive my 45 minutesback home, by then the gasses are filling the bag. I finally got her and kennel out of my truck and dragged the kennel to the bottom of property over lava rocks and buried her...not at all easy for a single 64 yr old woman to do.Employees did apologize for No one explaining this to me. I'm posting this post so no one else will get shocked saddened like me. Prayers to all our doggies in heaven.

When we visited Hawai'i we heard about Hawai'i Island Humane Society. We took out Nani for a day and brought her for a 4 mile hike over at Captain Cook. The process was quick and easy, and we were supplied with a backback with all the essentials for a day trip. Nani was a trailblazer and completely tired us out! We'd happily do another field trip again and would recommend it to anyone visiting the island.

The puppy field trip is such a great experience! We took Granny out for a day at the beach, central bark dog park and Petco to get a bath and freshen up. It was such a great way to spend a day with a dog that otherwise spends its days in the shelter. The staff at the shelter were extremely helpful and eager to assist us with getting Granny out on her field trip

people won’t even pick up the phone or email you back, how can you run this program for “rehoming your pet” if you can’t even get in touch with anyone at the office or anything

I take my lil min pin to the dog park there. It's big, nice, cool, lots of room. They have one side for the bigger dogs and one for the smaller ones like my lil "CHEECH" that's what we call her. She loves it there. The grass is nice and green. 👍😍💯♥️
