This place has specialty, higher end, harder to find food items that are on the expensive end of cost. The young man cashier was friendly and gave me a bag to put my items in because it was raining.I've yet to consume my venison sticks but I'm sure they're good.

Large selection of local exotic and regular fruit, all organic. Now they’re carrying SunDog bread too which is delicious! The owner is nice, staff is always pleasant. The newLocation has good easy free parking.

Old store had wayyyy better vibes. Fluorescent lights are awful feeling; Feels sorta like a sterile hospital now with music. I feel like you gotta grow your own food now if you want calm mana in your food. However very nice staff! Friendly and carry strong Aloha energy. But wish we could go back to calmer, wood-floor and less artificial light vibes. Please. Tranquilo . Maybe I’ll open my own calm restaurant. Everything is too amped .

Very local, pretty original. It is my go to place for delicious organic "Family Farm" apple bananas. Ripe, full and firm. But they also have local beauty products, frozen meats and fish and even local granola, to go with local fresh fruits and veggies.

Amazing assortment of local produce, healthy packaged foods and local gifts and artists by localilians. You will not find anything here that is not local so don’t even ask lol. And if you are not local enter at your own risk. No but all jokes aside this is a very cool little store packed full of treasures. Team is super loving nice and filled with an abundance of aloha spirit. I had some of the most amazing local kava cacao in the island there. Was pretty splendid!

Finally found someone with unadulterated Macadamia Nut Butter. Not mixed with honey or chocolate! Thanks Locavore!!

Great store for local produce, including local meat and Tropical Dreams ice cream! They sell nice chocolates, macadamia nuts, and honey that would be great for souvenirs or gifts. Prices are a little high (bananas were $1.69/lb compared to farmer's market price of $1.50/lb), but not awful. They also have lovely, unique greeting cards that are painted or printed in the Hawaiian islands. Customer service was excellent and I appreciated the cashier's recommendations for restaurants to eat at in the area!

Went to return an expensive garlic blend herb that I bought 6 months ago. It was old 6 months ago and they refused! Lost a customer. Hope the $8 was worth losing the annual money I will no longer be spending. Just read owner's response to another 1 star. Wow, paragraphs of defensive rhetoric! Clueless!Regarding the response. A lot of words and again clueless.

Owner keeps answering defensively. In the 2 communications, not once did the salesperson, who was angry at my request, or owner addressed the fact that the seasoning I purchased was STALE. Why are they selling it? Stale when I first purchased it. Lame of me to return 6 months later, however, they lost a customer because of the way they handled the situation. I hope $8 is worth it folks.

Great experience at Locavore. We were able to stock up on all-local supplies for a couple of meals at our rental. Fresh fruits and veggies are available along with frozen, well priced meats (wonderful ribeye), etc. There are plenty of packaged items for snacks, gifts, or souvenirs. Super friendly service to boot!

It’s the food store closest to my motel. I got sweet potato chips and two small bars of local chocolate. The chips were purple! Are these taro root? They’re tasty! So is the vanilla chocolate. Largest avocados I’ve ever seen!

I found this store while staying in Hilo for a few days. I bought one shampoo bar, one conditioner bar, one of their foaming face washes, a bar soap and some fruits and ice cream. I loved the bar shampoo and conditioner so much I reached out to them to put in a small order to be shipped to me. I love when I find products that work and the quality of their stuff is wonderful.

An awesome store and great idea: features produce and products from local growers, backyards and workshops. Glad to know my dollars go to local people and businesses. How local? 70 some odd pounds from a neighbors avocado tree graced the produce bins. Thanks giving indeed. Awesome avocados!

The Locavore Store is worth a visit. High quality local produce, local bath and souvenir products, and kindly employees. We found that their papayas, eggplants, apple bananas, and rambutans were higher quality than what we got at other stores. We especially enjoyed their roasted macadamia nuts and well-priced grass-fed beef (we grilled ribeyes and NY strip steaks).

This little grocery store is awesome. The fruits and meats are so good. We went twice. If you see something that you like get it while you are there because it might not be there a day later. Great variety for a small store. Prices are comparable to the close by Safeway or even cheaper.

Wow. I mean, wow. I just had the best shopping experience of my life...from thousands of miles away! The Locavore Store had the perfect selection of locally-produced items for making a Big Island gift basket we won't forget...they hand-wrote my personal message into the card and coordinated handing off for delivery. Prices were incredibly reasonable for such exceptional products, and customer service was absolutely the best. So very happy to have had this shopping experience!

I was really surprised with this one and was very disappointed about my recent experience. I've been a customer for almost year. The boutique style shop offers items at a higher price point but that is OK for me since it products are local and of quality. The store attendants were also very nice.Recently, I bought an ice cream that didn't quite agree to my taste; it was so tart that I couldn't really enjoy it. I called the shop thinking that it won't be a big deal since I am already paying premium for its products. I assumed part of their mission is to provide a full positive customer experience.Unfortunately, the "owner" in a passive aggressive tone told me that they won't do an exchange or a refund because its falls under customer preference and she was VERY SORRY. This was the first time I requested an exchange. Sadly the "boutique" facade doesn't live up to the hype. In my book any business willing to lose a customer over $8 is trash. Even Aldi takes exchanges without question. I was talking up this place to my friends and family, but not anymore. BYE LOVACORE!!

My favorite place in Hilo and one of the things I miss the most about the Big Island. Locavore is THE place to get truly local products and to be embraced with kindness and excellent service. The store is beautiful and the owners are true gems. Stop by and get some purple sweet potatoes for me okay?

I've lived on the Big Island most of my life. I can go into Locavore and find fruit I've never heard of before. Beautiful fruit and exquisite veggies. Whatever you like about the farmers market, it will be better at Locavore.

Tastes like homemade food and it's mostly local and organic! Root booch is better than root beer in every way.

I periodically stop in for a drink and snack to take with me to work. The store is clean and cute, with all local options including foods and accesories. They always have some locally grown plants as well.

All local products at great prices, although I initially thought they were expensive but after roaming around and also checking out some shops in Kona definitely great prices. We got the toffee chocolates which were delish.

This is by far the best place to get the best produce in Hilo -- the owners are committed to serving their community as well as supporting farmers on the East side of the island. Ask them how they came to start this store!! Come shop here for delicious 'aina-grown foods, perfect gifts & grab and go items, and know that your are directly contributing to our local farming community and promoting local agriculture at large!! So grateful they are here!!!!

Great local produce and other items. I recommend the berries, bok choy, lettuce, dressings and coconut chocolate. We will be back to try out other awesome products soon. Clerk was very kind, patient and knowledgeable.

If you are looking for unique, fresh, and delicious foods that are all from the Big I, this is the spot. I always come here for gifts, they have local grown spices and great tinctures, essential oils, and body are products as well as fresh, all local foods including hard to find varieties of fruit.

Such a cute store with locally grown, produced, and created items. I purchased the cutest greeting card, along with some Big Island coffee, hawaiian sea salt, and a sticker for my hydro flask.

Lots of yum and unique local items that make excellent gifts for the loca-conscious. Limited supply means that some of my faves are not always in stock.
