UPDATE: I called the service manager as suggested. I know it’s hard to keep workers, but he didn’t want to hear that his workers did a bad job. He said they had checked, and everything was fine. Meanwhile, a friend took one saw apart enough to find that the spot where the oil is supposed to flow from was completely plugged with sawdust. No oil could flow onto the chain. He scooped out the plug and the oil started flowing properly. So the people down at Garden Exchange definitely had not tested to make sure the oil was flowing, which would’ve taken them 15 seconds after they started the engine to make sure it was running properly. They didn’t do their job, and instead of considering what I had to say, the service manager just backed them up and blew me off.I had a friend drop off a couple of chainsaws for me, asking that they call me so I could tell them what was wrong. They never called me, and instead performed a service which I could definitely have done myself. $250 later, and I still can’t use my chainsaws. These guys need to pay attention. I won’t be going back.

My serenity place. Love taking trips to Garden Exchange to see all the new plants they have for both indoors and outdoors. Always great quality of plants with a variety to choose from so it never fails when I walk out with a plant or two or three.

Soil amendments, fertilizer, big bags of cinder, plenty of plants outside (but don't forget, no refunds all sales final on plants!). Tons of containers of various sizes, plastic and clay pot kine. Knowledgeable staff will answer any questions and are very helpful loading vehicles. The weekly specials are helpful, prices are fair.We go here anytime in town over the big box stores. The place has the aloha spirit and will help you become the best green thumb you want to be! Yessah blessah 🤙

Let's say you're new to Hilo, maybe new to Hawaii. You like to garden and the big box stores are ...This is a great place for all things gardening. You want a water garden and a source for the Nymphaea, look here. You collect tropical Rhododendrons aka Vireya, they have named varieties. You are looking for all things Stihl. It really looks like a Stihl catalog come to life.They also sell Hapu'u for those of you wanting a tree fern.Bonus there are people to help you too.

Tammy, the nursery manager, is fantastic and super helpful. I wanted a particular Avocado variety, and she had no hesitation in contacting the grower to get exactly what I wanted within only a week! Two other retail plant outlets in Hilo were nowhere near as helpful.Carol is super friendly and helpful as well, as is everyone at Garden Exchange.

This is my favorite place in Hilo town to purchase plants. They carry a great selection, including native and endemic Hawaiian plants. I've even picked up a rare red native Hawaiian hibiscus (koki'o 'ula'ula) and native Hawaiian gardenia (nanu/na'u) there. I can't comment on the other garden supplies and tools since I literally only go to Garden Exchange for plants.

We love going here! Lots of inventory, and the STIHL staff are amazing. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable and willing to help you decide on what’s best. They have nice 20% off sales, and have always been very accommodating. We love buying local with garden exchange. They will always have our business!

I bought 2 lawn mowers top of the line.I bought one and my son that works with me said he wanted one too. So the next week we bought a second one. They were about $800.00 each. The owner helped us. I asked him about a warranty He said once you leave here you put that lawn mower in your car it's yours. I was surprised. But I thought to myself it's a expensive mower. What could go wrong.We had looked at homeDepot and a couple of other places. Everyone was out except electric ones. In a short time both mowers was not working. Completely disgusted.

This is a locally owned company that really knows what works and doesn't work on Hawai'i Island because they are from here. They are not at the mercy of corporate overlords on the Continent trying to sell you somethingthat does great in another state. They sell you what you need and have great advice for what you are planning to grow. Their staff are professional and have much Aloha. Support local businesses it really does matter.

Good size store with all your garden needs. Live plants including orchids. They're always friendly and attentive. If you're looking for a scythe this is where I bought mine a few years back.

Went there today to buy a chainsaw. Got a great deal . wish i would of got the salesman name. I know he was there on his day off . The best customer service ive ever had . They started my saw filled it with gas Definitely getting all my tools and supplies there . Your not going to find a place with better customer service . ........I've gotten 3 saws now and they've given me a good deal on all of them , this is where I go to get my equipment, they have a good selection of stihl equipment and most anything you need for lawn maintenance, gardening, landscaping.

Very good selection of tools, great service and genuinely eager to help. Puts home Depot to shame when it comes to service. Very limited selection of flowers and vegetable. Seedlings are grown in mostly sand and gravel. Fall apart when you plant them.

Techs Mark and Marvin are super accommodating and willing to give help and advice. Sales staff are equally as friendly and go out of their way to answer any questions. They all give great service!

Owner was rude when requested to honor warranty on equipment! He refused to talk civilly! He was not listening where I clearly stated I would pay for repair although the cost of machine was double of what priced on line and due to this I will now purchase equipment on line and not deal with them.I can get warranty service done somewhere else! We spent a lot only to find out they do not honor warranty. Be careful research prices and warranty before investing with Gatden exchange.I just got the used belt . It is intact but has a bite out of it which according to the manufacturer they should have honored the warranty because it clearly shows the belt was not properly routed to the idler pulley. I will be consulting my attorney. They refused to honor the warranty!!!!!! Rip off!!!!

love the selection of plants they have, they have my plant wishlist and i always end up getting something when i go there, BUT i’ve bought a string of hearts and string of pearls (two different times) and they over watered them leading to root rot which hurts bc i loved them so much. i didn’t water both of them when i bought them and i realized they weren’t doing well when they both started to drop there leaves. i hope that they start to care for there plants.

This is a great place to shop for anything to do with gardening. The parking lot is a little hard to get into but once you're there, you have pretty much everything you need for your home and yard. The people are friendly and knowledgeable. I go in all the time.

Check the price with similar dealer in town as there seemed to me fishy pricing although I bought stihl chain saw, stihl weed wacker and chains in the past. This time went there to buy a stihl part but was disappointed to know substantial price difference for the same part with another stihl dealer a few miles away.They should display the price for customers to see.

I went to get trimmer line, the older gentleman behind the repair counter was initially engaging with me, after a few moments hehe wou only look/talk at my wife, she doesn't know about yard care or the tools involved. Garden Exchange lost a potential life long customer.

Hilo wouldn’t be Hilo without Garden Exchange. This is one of the few places left that has that mom and pop feel service. The customer service is straight up THE BEST; proactive (you’re looking for a specific plant and they don’t have it stock - they call different nurseries to see if they can find it for you!), knowledgeable and service with a true spirit of aloha. I just wanna go there so I can feel the old school vibe of Hilo.
