The Talk Story Bookstore is located in the vibrant town of Hanapepe. It’s pretty cool being the westernmost bookstore in the U.S. Small little independent bookstore with lots of local finds, gifts for reader enthusiasts, and plenty of books to read while soaking up the island charm. We always stop in when visiting Kauai.

What a local gem! The "westernmost bookstore in the United States", we spent a good chunk of time wandering up and down the book aisles, speaking with the staff, and choosing tchotchkes to take home. I love independent bookstores, and ended up buying one of their tote bags to carry stuff around the island for the rest of our trip. We ended up coming back the next day, too.

#IwasHere. So fun we stopped here after having been deterred from going to the canyon by the rain. Such a lovely place and they have a lot of selection my friend got a book by an author from Kauai and I got some stuff to read on vacation. Great prices, Great selection. Great souvenirs. Great art. Only enter here if you love quaint little bookstores with a ton of charm and character. What a wonderful stop for some fresh beach reading pages & even some local Hawaiian folklore and tradition books. Their selection included new & used books, small gift items, stickers and notecards. Not just another tourist-trap bookstore. I actually work at a bookstore back home, and I greatly appreciate Talk Story’s selection as well as their comfortable & quirky atmosphere. You won’t be able to take a turn through the store without seeing at least one item that stops you in your tracks to go, “How in the world do they have a copy of *that*?”

Nice local book with good-sized sections dedicated to Hawaii, Kauai, and Polynesian Islands cultures. Helpful knowledgeable staff. Good suggestions on topics of interest and other local resources. Many rare, unique books. Well maintained. Fun souvenirs and coffee beans.

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check out “The Westernmost Bookstore in the United States” while in Kauai for a workcation. The Talk Story Bookstore is exactly what you want in a quaint book store with a mix of new and old books, some great gifts, and a cat! The cat wasn’t cooperative for a photo so excuse me for not including a pic. I did pick up a couple of books that I previously hadn’t heard of and am excited to read.

This small bookstore is more for readers and collectors. And also for cat enthusiasts. They have some rare and old books, including a few in languages other than English. They also have a bit of sci-fi and video game memorabilia. The star is the owner's cat, who was sleeping in an elevated basket labeled as "the Boss." The owner's wife create stickers, books, and some other goodies related to the cat, including the story of the cat moving to the island. I believe they also take used books. There were some great finds here!

Could have spent hours in here! This is a great little bookstore, and you're sure to find a treasure or souvenir inside.MST3K fans will appreciate actual-size Tom Servo and Crow replicas.I think Natalie is the store owner, and she seems very chill.

A decent indie bookstorw to visit while in Kauai. Clean and friendly. Good selection although not the biggest. Has a romance section. A tad overpriced for used books.

No kidding.Nicely decorated, fully air conditioned, and with a good selection of books to browse.We found the newest edition of “The ultimate Kauai Guidebook”, and a used hardback novel in tiptop condition from 2021.

An amazingly cool book store on many levels. An eclectic mix of all things of old & new school Hawaii. From modern tropical novels to some racks of old Hawaiian LP albums to odd unsorted sections worth sorting through.The owners are also willing to "talked story". Talk to them for direction.

Excellent selection of classics in hard to find editions. Unbeatable prices, even by mainland standards. Section for biographies, travel, Eastern religion, Christianity, Sci Fi, comics, etc, etc. Worth a trip to Hanapepe just to visit this store alone.

What a wonderful little bookstore! One of the highlights of my visit to Kauai with my wife. They have an admirable selection of used books and new releases, the artwork and stickers made my day, and on top of it all they have a BOOKSTORE MASCOT? Celeste rang the bell for her treat because she’s The Boss, and Yuriko’s stickers of her are adorable. This was the BEST “Westernmost Bookstore in the U.S.”!

Super cute spot for some books, art, stickers, and an adorable atmosphere! Their book organization is not fantastic, so it was hard to find things, but it wasn't impossible. Their art and stickers were beautiful and had some good deals on vintage and new pieces alike.

We ran out of books to read on our vacation, so had to find an "emergency" bookstore. This place was an unexpected gem and is TOTALLY worth a visit. I would recommend heading here at the beginning of your trip and picking up a Kauai history or tourism book! They also feature gifts, art, and books by local businesses and authors. I wish we had found this place sooner, and I wish we had time to return so I could trade in all of the books I read before leaving!

This bookstore is super cute, they have a great selection of books and they intermix the new with the used which is awesome too. There are affordable options and they have the latest NYT bestsellers available too. The owner was working there when we went and she was super sweet and helpful. I loved supporting this small business! Plus is super neat to be able to say you have gone to the western most bookstore in the United States!

This may be my favorite book store ever! It's a small shop but has a wide selection and both of the store owners know lots of excellent recommendations. They've also got a cute boss that is always behind the counter (it's a cat). I go every time I visit the island to pick a book to read on the beach!
