Was ‘Ono! The other places I wanted to check out was closed so decided to stop here for a plate lunch. Did not know they was known for their chili pepper chicken. I got the 1/2 plate and was fast and ‘Ono! It was a good deal for $8.50!I didn’t know how it would be (I have low tolerance to spice) so I paid $0.35 for sauce on side. It wasn’t that spicy! Next time I’ll try it together.

Service was lacking. Douchey early 20 something holier than thou vibe. Coffee was average and orders weren't handled well.Food was delicious. Just wish service matched. Very popular, so be ready to wait a bit.

We loved the chili pepper chicken so much we ordered it twice during our stay. I preferred the garden salad side to the mac/potato salad. This restaurant closes early FYI. The bakery items were very reasonably priced too. I look forward to trying them next trip!

I'm sorry, but there is no way on this gorgeous green earth that Village Snack Shop & Bakery should average a 4.3-star review. We went this morning for a quick bite before hitting the beach. We ordered one combo plate to share: Teriyaki beef, fried chicken, and spam, with white rice and mac salad. You can't go wrong with a meal like this; it's our native comfort food.Somehow, they did get it wrong in more ways than one. First, the service was very slow. It took 30 minutes for us to get our meal, and it was not even busy when we went. Now, to be fair, there could have been online or to-go orders. I could let it go, had the food been worthwhile. But, it was not! The fried chicken was nearly flavorless and was served as 3 dime-sized portions. The teriyaki beef was tough. The mac was bland. The only thing worth its salt was (quite literally) the spam -- and we only got one slice of it!I give atmosphere a "4" because Village Snack Shop & Bakery reminds me of all the places I loved going to as a kid. Hole in the wall, family-owned, no renovations since the bronze age -- that's my jam. But, the food was incongruent to say the least. I don't recommend it.

The food was pretty good, but it felt like the employee who took our order would have preferred another hour of sleep. Lots of locals chilling and enjoying coffee to start the day early.

This seems like the kind of place Anthony Bourdain might have tried. Tucked away in a little no-frills corner. Great local atmosphere, very friendly staff, and our food came out hot, fresh, in a timely manner, and absolutely delicious. Breakfast musubi and loco moco were fantastic. The tropical pancakes (banana and macadamia nut) and malasadas were some of the best I’ve ever had. My only disappointment is we only discovered this place on our last day.

Lady that owns this place is always grouchy. We come here every time we come to Hanalei and she treats tourist like second class citizens. Last time we were there, we ordered pancakes for our family and waited 45-50 min for them to be made. Literally, 15-20 people came in after us and they got their food before us. We finally had to ask for a refund, and instead of apologizing for how long they had taken, the owner snapped back at us and argued with us as to why our order got pushed to the back of the line. It made no sense. Don’t get me wrong, they make a mean pancake, but when you’re in Hawaii you don’t want to be spending half of your day in this bakery. Two thumbs down for their treatment and the slow wait on food.

45-50min to get some pancakes. Several other groups came in after and received their food well before ours. When we questioned the owner she was rude and defensive. I simple apology would have worked. We spent plenty of money here and we're treated very poorly. The food is okay but not amazing.

Long wait, apathetic staff, inedible food. Prices were low, but you get what you pay for. We ordered veggie burgers with side of Mac salad. After a 20-minute wait, the food came out. The burger patties were undercooked, tasted terrible and had the texture of raw beef. The Mac salad (that was $4 extra) came in a tiny portion (about 1/4 cup to the scoop) was flavorless. The salad had zero seasoning, was just pasta, potatoes, shredded carrot and Mayo. I ended up throwing my meal out entirely, it was completely inedible—I rarely throw out food, but this was just that bad.At one point, we went to check on our food and the two employees were standing behind the counter, both eating from a container of pie, which is not really a hygienic thing to take place in a restaurant.
