This was a nice place to stay. One thing to note, they do not have A/C. It was a little stuffy in the room, but once we turned on fans and opened windows, it was not bad and eventually cooled down. The rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly. The view from our patio was beautiful. There is lots of fun stuff to do close if you are looking for an outdoor adventure. We really enjoyed our time in Hana.Rooms: Rooms are clean and spacious. The bed was up in the loft in our room. Full kitchen. Beautiful view on patio.Nearby activities: Waiʻānapanapa State Park (make reservations) or they will not let you in. Hana Lava Tubes. Kahanu GardenFood & drinks: Hāna Farms Roadside Stand and Pizza. We loved the pizza and Bana Bread! Hana Ranch Restaurant was very a great place for lunch or dinner. Estrella’s Hana Maui (Ice cream, shakes, fruit, smooties, coffee and more)

We liked this place except for the paper-thin walls and ceilings. You can hear every voice and footstep. It really sucks to be woken up at 5:45 am while on vacation. When you are paying almost $500 a night you have a reason to expect better. The comments on here about this being a "quiet" place makes me think some of these reviews are not real, or their paid for.

A great place to spend a short time in Hana. Rooms are clean and simple but functional. Bed was very comfortable. Lanai (balcony) in the room was a wonderful place to watch and hear the waves crashing on the beach. I wouldn't exactly call the room we had luxurious, but it fit the vibe of Hana perfectly.Noteworthy details: You can walk down to the beach from the property. The surf seemed pretty intense so I wouldn't recommend swimming unless you are a strong swimmer.Restaurants and food trucks in Hana close at 5-6 pm, so you'll want to find food along the way if you plan on arriving later.

We stayed at this lovely place with 2 other couples. It was a great retreat after being in Waikiki. The sunset and sunrise vibes were amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is not a party place (quiet time 8pm to 8 am) allowing for a restful stay. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. We had an awesome view and did not miss the lack of air conditioning and tv (who needs a tv when you have such a great view). Lots of places to eat in the area but not many for dinner. We used the full kitchen and communal BBQ. Loved it there. It was a highlight of our trip.

Great oceanfront property in Hana. Pricey due to last minute booking. Glad that we stayed here. The place was clean and well maintained.Parking was easy. No elevators though. Location was amazing by the ocean. Staff was very helpful with suggestions during check in. Relaxing stay here for a night. Did not miss having a TV in the room. Good Wi-Fi speeds.Very limited and expensive vegetarian choices in Hana. No on site restaurant. Better to cook or pick up from Paia.

We decided to spend 1 night in Hana, when it came to accommodations we didn’t have a-lot of options, as expensive as it was. The room was clean and the bed was also comfy and clean. It was an older building and it smelled like it.The showers didn’t really warm up and there was a kick me dog yapping for a couple hours on the neighboring property.

The hotel room is comfortable with full kitchen. It is expensive to stay here, but good rest for a long and stressful driving on the “road to Hana”. It is easy to drive to Wailua Falls and ‘Ohe’o Gulch early morning without parking problem, then drive back hotel to have your own breakfast. Hotel provides good coffee. Deduct a star since breakfast is not included.

Absolutely loved this place. Great ocean view and (pebbly)beach front. Super friendly staff and a beautiful friendly black cat in the courtyard. I'll probably never make it back to Hana, but if I did I would absolutely stay here, and nowhere else. Loved it. Thank you Hana KaiFood & drinks: Make sure to bring food with you. Hana is limited in options. These rooms have full kitchens.

If you’re planning to travel theRoad to Hana, I highly recommend staying the night at Hana Kai Maui. The rooms are recently updated, clean, and stocked with everything you may need. The staff are amazing! They’re friendly and super helpful. Don’t miss a sunrise or sunset on their beach.

This place was worth the drive! We drove to Hana and stayed here two nights. Susie one of the owners checked us in. She was so hospital and gave great advice. A little hard to get something to eat in area but we came prepared. Our room with the INCREDIBLE view had a full kitchen.Rooms: Our one bedroom suite was perfect!

We only spent one night in Hana but had a great stay in Hana Kai Maui. We had a beautiful ocean view from our room and saw a beautiful sunrise from our porch. The kitchen was well equipped. Because Hana is a small town and everything closes early the units are stocked with a variety of board games which was great! We hope to return in the near future!

Charming hotel in Hana! Really made us feel like locals and decor had a very homey vibe. Great location and pricing--a gem!

Stayed a night and enjoyed our stay. Clean rooms with that nice ocean breeze. We didn't have any issues with the place heating up with no AC, but again we checked in relatively late and left relatively early. Nice views of the ocean with beach access (mainly rocky but there is a spot where it is sandy that you can go out for a swim if you are a strong swimmer).

We loved our two night stay at the Hana Kai. Amanda at the front desk was so welcoming and kind. The grounds were so beautiful and serene. The view was top notch watching the waves roll in on the black sand beach. No need for AC- the ocean breeze and ceiling fans kept us comfortable all day and night. We are SO GLAD we chose to stay here over any other accommodations.

Kudos to their manager for accommodating us at 10pm one night! We were unable to get to Hosmer grove due to a landslide in Haleakala National Park and were driving around Hana looking for a spot - found this place. They gave us a discounted price and the apartment was gorgeous, comfortable, tropical in decor and the views were spectacular.

More a condo than hotel. Kitchen was stocked well for making meals. Hana is a beautiful area of Maui. We had stayed in this condo at Hana Kai 9 years before. We booked the same condo and were rather disappointed this time. Private owners of the condos located on this property supply beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers and other such amenities to their renters that afford them the ability to truly enjoy the area. This condo had been purchased by the company and, as it was explained to me, the company (Hana Kai) does not provide these to their renters. Our condo 206 was right next door to a privately owned condo. Also there is no store in Hana or the area that rent or sell beach chairs. We booked a stay for 5 nights with the intention of spending a couple of relaxing days on the beach as we'd been able to do on our first stay here. While it's in a beautiful location I would definitely stay here again; however, I would be prepared by purchasing or renting beach chairs to use during the stay prior to getting on the road to Hana.

If you are looking to explore Hana and all the magic it has to offer, this is an incredible place to stay! The quality of Hana Kai Maui is top notch. You can feel that a ton of care went into this property and the experience for guests. The photo I attached was from the sunrise I was able to witness from my bedroom. This place is peaceful, high quality in every way, and a treasure in the midst of a magical rainforest.

We have been coming to this place for over 25 years and LOVE it. No TV, No air conditioning just rural Hawaii and trade winds to keep you cool. The unit we had was as usual lovely though the sound transmission from the upper floor was pretty bad as the people above were heavy and frequent walkers. But the reason I have given it three stars is the price. At the best part of $1300 US for two nights it has become prohibitively expensive.

My wife and I stayed in Maui for 2 weeks for our wedding and subsequent honeymoon. Our home base was in Kaanapali but we carved out two days for the road to Hana during our trip. I read online that breaking up Hana if possible is the way to go, and boy we are sure glad we did.Hana is a small town and options for everything from lodging to groceries are very limited. We ended up booking one night at the Hana Kai and it was perfect. It was almost a mini vacation from our vacation. We totally unplugged (no TVs or AC in the room we stayed) and just enjoyed the views and each others company once we arrived in the afternoon. We opted for an upper level room with a view of Hana Bay and it was stunning.Check-in was a breeze and the location is great. Just around the corner is the main Hana beach, Red Sand beach was nearby, and so was Black Rock beach. We would recommend Hana Kai to anyone looking for a place to stay in Hana for a night or two.

This place is a gem! The kitchen was fully stocked for our use. The room had a wonderful view and felt Hawaiian but more contemporary. They do your laundry if you need it. The breeze coming in from the bay was the best—no need for AC. They give you a map of the town to find food trucks for your meals. We didn’t lack a thing while we were here. It was really comfortable and I wish we could’ve stayed longer. One thing to note is that the walls are thin, so you will hear your neighbors and their kids. That being said, it is still a quiet and lovely place to stay.

Amazing place with access to a beach that is better than the black sands beach. This place was built with some serious craftsmanship with beautiful views of Hana bay. I highly recommend Hana Kai as the best accommodations in Hana!Rooms: Rooms are beautiful and modern with great accommodations. Everything is up-to-date and the views are incredible.Nearby activities: Hana is Hana, plenty of nearby activities, including the black sand beach and hiking trails to beautiful waterfalls, as well as surfing.Food & drinks: Plenty of food and drink within several minutes.Noteworthy details: This place does not have air-conditioning, but is well equipped with masterfully, crafted, ventilation system, windows, and sliding doors.

Great service, amazing room with a view!! We slept so soundly in the kind size bed. The showers were delightful with a double adjustable heads. The location is perfect to get to everything around Hana. Check-in and check-out we're very fast & easy!

Short story : clean, comfy, easy place to stay for a short trip to HanaLong story : booked a one night accomidation as part of a hiking trip to/near Hana. The room meet our needs perfectly : simple and clean (1B1B). The communication ahead of time via email was greatly appreciated. The emails noted late arrival procedures and suggestions for food. We spent the day prior to our arrival hiking, so it was super useful to know we had to be in Hana in time to eat prior to things closing down. The late check in process was very easy. The property is older, but well maintained. Quiet property. The bed was comfy. Bathroom clean. Full kitchen was nice, though we didn't take advantage of it.This is not Hana Kai Maui's fault, but I have no where else to comment on this. And perhaps word gets around a small community. The tension between locals and tourists is palpable. As someone who tries to listen, learn, follows rules, and be a gracious guest, I did not feel welcome in Hana. On the short drive from Hana Kai to the food trucks, two people gave me the middle finger and one driver purposefully slowed down to yell obscenities at me. I witnessed tourist entitlement, so I can only imagine the local frustration.

Nice little place. We stayed in Popolana #2. The view was amazing. The sound of the surf against the unique black rocks made a great night's sleep. The kitchen has all the utensils you need. No shower soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc however. Neat spot!

Clean rooms with beautiful views and well-stocked kitchen. Hana overall is a fabulous experience and this location is good. Quite expensive for two nights (like total of around $1000 or something but that’s Hawaii). No shower curtain (just glass divider) which meant bathroom floor was constantly wet, kind of a nitpick. A lot of the hotel is sort of eroded just by nature of being on the ocean, but that means it’s more worn down than you might expect around the edges. Staff was polite.
