I would have walked away but the gentleman showed me a puppy that needs a home. Well I took the puppy home and we are both very happy

Very positive experience. The adoption fee was very reasonable and my guy came with all of his shots. The fee really was just enough to cover the neutering. The animals were obviously well cared for. I also appreciated that they didn’t make it so difficult to adopt like many shelters do. Lastly, the day I picked up my boy, his little face lit up and he got so excited when he saw a friendly man who worked there come in. It was clear he had gotten a lot of love and attention. Beyond adoption I plan to to whatever I can afford in the future to support this shelter.

Posted for my friend: I get it. Animal rescue/advocates are on a somewhat different side than animal shelters and animal control. I get it. We can’t save them all. But that doesn’t mean we don’t try. We are all trying to get through this animal crisis thing together. I realize per state Dept of Ag, shelters do not HAVE to release animals at all. However; this is 2022. What happened this morning, should have never happened.I received a call regarding the 4-5 day old puppies pictured below. Unfortunately their mom was euthanized due to biting a child. I understand it’s not ok for children to be bitten, but did the child get too close to puppies? Did the kid pick them up? That’s a HUGE no with new mama and babies. Just kill mama and be done with it right? So then, the babies. What to do with them. Oh that’s right. Let’s not let the multiple rescues help that’s trying to help. Let’s kill them too. Because you know, it’s the weekend and you don’t want to be bothered. But wait, some rescue people are making a fuss. So let’s say Mama had rabies and you have to kill puppies. Isn’t that what you did City of Waycross Georgia Animal Control??? What about the ten day quarantine for rabies? I’m sure Mama is being sent off for testing right???With this animal crisis that Georgia is in, along with other states, rescues and shelters HAVE to work together. Our goal should be educating the community, setting the animals up for success. Not simply just shuffling here or there to get them out. Our goal should be once an animal has left the shelter, it should be set up to hopefully never have to come back.City of Waycross Animal Shelter, you had a choice. You had Georgia licensed rescues willing to help. Even a rescue with a director that has been properly vaccinated against rabies. You chose to take the murder way out. No matter how hard you try to paint the picture, these babies’ blood will be on your hands.RIP babies. You are back with your Mom. This cruel, cruel world did not deserve you.

They apparently do not vet their animals before adopting them out. Granddaughter got a cat from them and got ringworm from it. She has been to the doctor twice because she is covered in it and had to miss school. I have tried to call several times and they do not answer. The ware county shelter adopts out healthy vetted animals I would suggest going there. Pet adoption is a wonderful thing just not at the city of waycross location

This is the most amazing place. Every animals is lovingly cared for by staff, with the goal to connect dogs or cats with people who will love them and give them a forever home. Please check it out in person if you are thinking of adding a pet to your family. Or come and make a donation or volunteer.

Doesn't have or support Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) for community cats. Catch-and-Kill has been shown to be less effective (as clearly seen in Waycross) at controlling populations than TNR in the long run as well as being, you know, INHUMANE. Waycross can and should do better.
