Like most motels/hotels on Tybee, this property is dated, stuck in the 1950's. Fixtures, furniture, A/C. Everything is old, but we didn't have any issues with anything in our room, it was clean. Consider the proximity to the beach, it's humid and definitely has a musty odor, but that's to be expected here. We've been coming to Tybee every year for 15 years now and we stayed here last July, we'll be staying here again for Memorial Day weekend. The staff is polite and helpful, I needed more towels for my room and they were happy to hand me more. Parking is tight, as with most places here, if you have an oversized vehicle you'll have trouble parking in the back of the building. Location is great, walking distance to everything. I suppose at this point we should be used to the MJ smell everywhere we go, but it was heavy here one day. I mentioned it to the desk staff and they sent someone around to check. They definitely don't want it on their property. The price is right for location, convenience and the level of comfort this place provides. We needed a place to sleep for our beach trip and this sufficed for my family with two young kids.

Stayed here for one night. I saw the bad reviews for the hotel and expected the worse. However, I was suddenly, unexpectedly, pleasantly surprised. The staff on scene was great, friendly and polite. Stayed in room 108 and the room was clean, clean smelling, and clean looking. The beds were not the best but one night, they were fine. The room looked to be recently renovated with tile floor, bathroom was clean, fresh clean towels. My only complaint would be the toilet, it rocked side to side and the handle did not always flush when pressed. Hot water in the shower. Overall, quite a pleasant experience. Tybee Island is wonderful and this hotel is no different.Rooms: Room was clean, clean smellingWalkability: Smackdab in the middle of Tybee Island. All the best restaurants are in walking distance.

We stayed at the Sandcastle on May 3-6 and we enjoyed our stay very much..everything was clean and in working order including the pool.We appreciated having easy beach access as well as walking distance from the room to restaurants and stores...Melinda went above and beyond to make sure our visit was great and we will definitely be calling her again for our next trip...thanks againWalkability: Everything we needed or wanted to do was in walking distanceNoteworthy details: Made our stay enjoyable and memorable

We got here at 4:00 and no one was in the office. We had to call and they sent someone to let us into our room. We had a dog friendly room.for 2 nights, with an $80 dog fee. The room was pretty shabby. The metal screen in the sink was totally rusted through. We had to put a wash rag over it so nothing fell through the hole. For $300 for 2 nights In January, with our dog, i would expect a bit more for the price.

I filed a report at the better business bureau about bugs and unsafe practices yet people still stay at this so-called motel. Others have mentioned bugs but the manager insisted they don’t have this issue and attempted to blame me or make me feel like it was my fault. I travel often and LIVE ROACHES are not acceptable. If you believe this so-called motel is nasty and you are concerned for others, you’re admonished to make a report at the BBB as well. Help others who will come behind you, hoping for a decent stay by the beach, but instead will leave disappointed and out of hard earned money. It takes 5 minutes to write to the BBB. Force this place up to get up to code which will help others enjoy the Tybee Island we love!

1 Night king bed stay in August 2023. The faucet in the room had calcium buildup around the handles and spout. The knobs were terribly tight to turn on for water. The clothes hangers were damaged and rusty. The refrigerator was rusty outside and inside. The room smelled like old, unclean, musty who knows what. The shower curtain rail was loose with the screws falling out. Paint chips and scratches on multiple surfaces. On the morning of checkout, they had a power washer tech do the hallways. The guy sprayed water under the door and caused a huge puddle inside the room at the doorway. I had to use their towels to contain the water to that area. The pool hours are 10am to 10pm.Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to a friend. This is not worth the $150/night I paid. Maybe $80/night. The staff were pleasant.

At first glance it seems pretty decent. It’s defiantly over priced for the quality you get, which isn’t much. The beds are hard and uncomfortable, paint is peeling off the doors, moldy smells throughout room. At almost $200 a night in the off season you’re not even getting decent toliet paper. The nice thing is you’re not but a short walk to the beach. I would defiantly recommend skipping this hotel if you plan on actually sleeping on vacation though. I’d also like to point out judging by previous reviews that no actual action as been taken to rectify any of the issues listed by previous guest. It’s really interesting to see guest relations reply back to reviewers but months and weeks go by and the same issues are being seen by new guests. I’m currently writing this review at 3:30 in the morning due to the fact that mattress is so uncomfortable. My husband said he would rather sleep in our car then what feels like an old box spring.

Dishonest and RudeMy wife and I were really looking forward to our stay here, and were immediately disappointed when we pulled up. Nevertheless, we decided to give it a chance. Upon checking in, we were shown to our room right up against a busy street. The room was dark, dingy, and dirty with the only window facing the busy street 10 feet away. The noise levels were incredibly high in the room from the traffic outside the room (dirtbikes and car speakers). When I went to express my concerns with the front desk she reported that this will only be occurring for another hour as it was Sunday. I had a hard time believing that cars and dirtbikes just stop being driven after Sunday.Next we asked for a refund given the quality of the resort and it's not being as advertised. Barbara at the front desk immediately denied that their hotel had any choice in the matter and that only Expedia (who we booked through) could, and that Expedia would likely be rigid and deny the request. Upon calling Expedia, we were told that it was entirely up to the hotel, and that our agent would have to call the hotel and try to get a refund on our behalf. Upon our agent calling, the refund was immediately denied by Barbara.I confronted Barbara about this and she immediately became hostile and began to use nonsensical metaphors in an attempt to shame and belittle me. However, she did not deny that she had lied about who was the deciding authority on the refund. She then encouraged me to pay extra for a room further from the street. We had already paid $360 for a Motel 6 stay, albeit a Motel 6 is usually further from the road, and denied her suggestion.During this exchange, I was finally able to get her to give me the manager's number. The manager was calmer, but repeated the lie that Expedia was the deciding authority over the refund. Expedia, who we still had on speakerphone, denied this as true.Upon our further attempts with Expedia going nowhere we decided to leave the dingy and dirty room, and attempt to salvage the remainder of our vacation. As I was giving the keys back to Barbara, I overheard her exchange about the hotel having been recently for sale. No wonder no one bought it.Upon our leaving, the hotel decided to renege on their promise to return 50% of our payment. This was clearly done out of spite, as they had told they’d do so in the beginning of these exchanges (we had demanded a full refund given the quality, treatment, and dishonesty). After a few days, the manager texted me and stated she had refunded half our stay, however, it was not half the money and I had to work to at least get the remainder of the 50%.

DO NOT STAT HERE!We had to leave abruptly (8/26/2023) because of two LIVE roaches in the room. Through my research, they have an infestation because of the type of bug (German). We stayed the previous night for $122 because of the short walk to the ocean. No issues then. The rate after taxes for the next day was $187.**We chose this place because of the pleasant experience with Madison at the front desk. We searched a long time to find a place. It was quick getaway from Atlanta. All the hotel and motel reviews in Tybee reported bugs and subpar conditions.Thank you Madison for your kind and pleasant nature. **We got out as quick as possible. Office was closed when we left. Called the number on the door and the woman tried to explain that the weather was the reason for the bugs.Called during office hours and talked to the manager, Melinda. She was hostile after only a few words, mentioned a refund when I didn’t, then hung up on me!Melinda tried to explain that no one has ever complained about bugs when the reviews on Google explain otherwise. The conversation was recorded. She explained that they have an exterminator for bugs, we stayed past 11 pm, we couldn’t stay for free, and the housekeeper didn’t see bugs. I feel sorry for the housekeeper because we always TIP!Not acceptable behavior from a manager to not give or show sympathy or offer a resolution to complaints big or small, yet, instead, hang up on a paying customer! We travel often. We’ve never had this issue in any hotel or motel in our travels. Bugs are NEVER acceptable EVEN IF THEY ARE DEAD.DO NOT STAT HERE!Rooms: Overpriced and outdated motel 6 experience near the ocean.

walking distance to the beach, bars, restaurants and stores. The workers were kind, however they do close the front lobby at night so i’m not sure how you would contact them if something broke. As for the room, it was cleaned well, however the mattress was very old and almost felt like sleeping on a box spring. also very noisy. The entire room had an awful smell, similar to the smell of mold from water damage. Shower leaks and you can hear it all night long. A/C is loud but no more than most hotels. Was woken up to someone pressure washing our door and water was spraying under the door into our room. I would not stay here again, it wasn’t worth the price.

Located right in the middle of everything so i didn't have to drive when I wanted to go out. The coffee maker in the room was missing the part that holds the coffee, and after several trips to Wet Willies the night before, i NEEDED coffee. But it was fine because i just went across the street to Mi Vida (which was delicious). The staff was super friendly and courteous. The bath towels were clean and white, not stained like most other motel towels. Overall, we had a great stay there.

I had a great stay here. It was my first time to Tybee, and this hotel is one reason I'll be back. The room was clean, had a micro fridge and microwave, and single serve coffee maker. But, bring your own creamer and use bottled water in it instead of tap water. The beach is literally a hundred yard's walk from the hotel, and within walking distance of most great restaurants. My suggestions are: The Stingray, Sunrise, and Pier 16. If this 60 year old with arthritis in my knees can handle the walking, most people can. I checked out today and they let me leave my car at the hotel while I ate breakfast and headed for the beach the last time.

Surprised for the bad comments in here. This place it’s just like the next door Tybee hotel, but with 250dls less difference! For the price, I was pleased with cleanliness inside the bathroom and comfy of the beds. They had decent free coffee that added a smile to my early morning walk at the beach 3-5 minutes walk to the beach was amazing!

Well I made reservations they charged me 274.00 on my card immediately which I've never had happen before. Then when I checked in they said I only paid partial of the bill which they said was 165.00 for the room. Then when I told them I already paid 274.00 . Oh everything was okay then. After they done got me for 135.00 could of offered me another day and little difference in money. Location was great. There not close to the money I paid for the room .

Spent 1 night at Sandcastle Inn. It was a last minute trip and we were not expecting anything too fancy but I was really angry about the fact that they had the pool locked and wouldn't take the time of day to unlock it. It was kinda windy but not raining or storming they just didn't want to bother with it. The vending machine took 3 dollars from me. The room wasn't horrible but it wasn't good. I saw black mold spots on the ceiling in the bathroom and dead roaches. Would've stayed longer had they atleast offered to help with some of the issues. Definitely not worth the money! The only positive thing I can say is that you're close to the beach but we didn't have time to enjoy it on this trip.

Very small pool, beds very uncomfortable, stain on the side of the bed bug cover. Those are supposed to be washed, you can tell it hasn't in awhile. Toilet was so low to the ground and very wobbly, also didn't flush half the time. Door knob is barely hanging on bathroom door. Hair in the tub, no broom in room to sweep out sand. Extention cord to plug up light. Only 1 ice machine worked. Wifi doesn't work most of the time. Only 6 channels work. Definitely not worth $500 for two nights. Will not be back. Housekeeping and management was nice. They really need a update on everything. I should have read the reviews before booking here.

We got into Tybee late Saturday night, thankful this hotel had a room available for my bf and my son. Mrs. Tammy checked us in and was so nice! Answered all of our questions even got to swim in the pool. Sunday came along and I lost my keys in the ocean for my car , and we had already check out of the hotel but figured we would go back to th hotel to see if we could use there phone since our phones and wallets were locked in the car. That's where Mrs. Melinda came in and let us use the phone , helped us find a locksmith and was so nice and sweet helping us find a locksmith. Then it was shift change and we got to see Mrs. Tammy again who gave my son some money to get some snacks while we waited for the locksmith. 10/10 recommend. This will be the only hotel we use when we come to Tybee. Also walking distance to the beach, has a decent size pool with amazing , respectful and most importantly friendly workers. Oh can't forget to shout out the cleaning guy that gave my son a quarter to get something out the snack machine. Great place and reasonable pricing!Noteworthy details: Great employees Mrs. Tammy and Mrs. Melinda they deserve a raise !!

Location is the only thing good about it, half the time the key wouldn’t work for the main door. The bathroom door was torn apart at the bottom looked like a dog had chewed it up when it was locked up while it’s owners went to the beach. For a 2 day minimum on the weekend and being charged 473$ you’d think it’d be a little better and for that price it should’ve been a 5star room. Way over priced for a leaky sink and tub and broken doors.

Nothing positive to say. The rate was 200 dollars. Non-ADA height toilet. Noisy AC, lights running off a general-use extension cord, the iron has been dropped, so many time it is black and blue, the sink light was not properly installed. I will say the bed was comfortable. If this facility is owned by an individual or a corporation I suggest the following: The owner / CEO need to stay in a different room weekly until they will be proud of the Sandcastle Inn.

Check in is at 4, but they didn't have our room ready until almost 5pm. Paint on shower curtain, half used toiletry items provided to us (disgusting), a quarter roll of toilet paper and no back up.Our friends met us here and stayed one night. Their room ALSO wasnt ready by check in. When they got their room key, they unlocked the door and it wasn't even cleaned! Bedding off the beds and laying on the floor. Someone's bathing suit on the floor. The door to this room was left open for 2 days before they finally cleaned it and shut the door.So she went down to the office and the lady came up to see what rooms were clean, only one other was.So they go in and start getting cleaned up for dinner and the lady comes up and knocks on the door and tells them they can't stay in there bc it was for another guest. So they had to go to yet another room.Trash all over parking lot. Honestly, this hotel should be reported to the health department. Then when we went to checkout, no one was in the office and the door was locked so we had to wait until someone showed up for work. Will NEVER stay here again and highly advise staying somewhere else. 2 stars is generous (only gave because of close proximity to the beach).

Rooms have been remodeled. This does a lot to distract from the wear and tear of old chipping bathroom doors and chipped base boards. The room is pretty clean. Sheets comfy, tub well scrubbed and microwave and fridge clean. There was some grime in the corner of bathroom floor that couldnt help draw your attention but it lay behind where the door opened so perhaps it was missed by house keeping. The coffee machine had no tray to hold the poach. Used it like a tea bag... it worked well enough. Plenty of coffee and sweetner kits provided. Location is perfect for beach, dining, and bar walking. Definitely worth the price of the room. Friendly staff.

On July 20th we did not know what to do on my daughter's birthday so we decided to ....drive all the way to the ocean from Atlanta! We booked on the way by calling directly the hotel.I was a little bit nervous after reading the reviews but when we enter the room I was so pleased. It's a motel right? I have never experienced a room THAT cleaned! The bed smelled fresh and clean ( bed covers included), the entire floor, the bathroom, the bathtub, ( the shower curtain looks brand new) in fact it seems that everything was new ( no mold, no bugs) but I don't really know. All I can say is that everything looks like the pictures nice and modern. We even found some amenities like soap, shampoo , hair dryer and the coffee maker wlth the fridge were very handy. Everything was spotless. You cannot beat the location either. The beach is at the end of the street, 2 minutes walk and the pier is one street down.Once you park your car you good to walk everywhere restaurants, coffee shops, etc.. For those who are interested, at the pier they have cabins where you can change with showers next to it. The lady at the reception, Melinda, was also super nice and welcoming. Maybe we got lucky and got the best room?! Only one negative thing I need to mention, the air conditioning unit is VERY loud that It might prevent you from sleeping because it goes on and off but I came with earplugs and that helps a lot! One thing for sure we are ready to go back anytime! By the way, we stayed in room 203😉
