We came to Tybee for the first time and wanted to stay in something other than the normal on the beach hotels. We booked a room and were not disappointed. It was spacious, nicely decorated to reflect the rest of the motel. The beds were very comfortable and it was a very clean room. Good air conditioning! It is a very short walk to the beach across the street. And close to restaurants and shopping. We were made to feel welcome and at home by Miss Cynthia our hostess. We will surely come back and stay again!Rooms: The rooms are comfortable, decorated nicely, very comfortable beds, microwave, and refrigerator and coffee makerNearby activities: You have the beach you have shopping there’s bike rental Or you can rent a golf cart to get aroundSafety: We felt completely safe hereWalkability: You can walk across the street and be a block from the beachFood & drinks: Well, they do not offer a breakfast. They are only a short distance from all kinds of restaurants that do.

Cynthia is so sweet! She made us feel welcome from the moment we first spoke to her. The room was adorable and perfect for my husband and I (queen deluxe studio). The decorations and the appliances were new and everything worked and was clean. The bathroom was a little warm and stuffy and I see a lot of people complaining about the tiny sink, but honestly a bigger sink would have taken up more room and made it harder to get in and out of the bathroom in my opinion and we didn’t mind the tiny sink. We were here right before the busy season and it was quiet and peaceful for our entire stay. I would come here again. Thank you for everything

Cynthia was a doll and we were able to get a room that suited us for 1 night. She gave recommendations for dinner restaurants and all the tips to get to the beach! The room has a cute retro feel and for one night it worked for us. The bathroom is hard to maneuver in due to the set up but the bed was super comfortable and the room and bathroom were spotless! The only downside was we had very rude neighbors who sat outside their room and talked/drank late into the night and they had a barking, whiny dog. There is no soundproofing so we could hear every word. Other than that we would recommend for the price!

I was so excited to try this place, the reviews all talked about it being small but clean. I could do that.We arrive and our small room looks cute. I check the bed, and don't see any sign of bed bugs, but do see a live black bug of some sort that might have had wings crawling in the bed. It creeped me out but I was going to ignore it. We leave for a couple hours, and when we come back I see another bug crawling across the pillow. At this point there have been 2 live bugs in the bed and I'm uncomfortable sleeping in this bed.I called the after hours number and left a couple messages, and then we left for dinner.I did get a call back, and the lady was very nice. She did give us another room, and sent the info so we could get in when we returned. This new room had a clearly dead black bug with wings in each bed, but I felt better that at least nothing was alive. The ac didn't work in this room, which I did mention, but it was late we were only staying one night and I just wanted rest. The temp wasn't extreme one way or another so it was ok. Once it's all said and done I wouldn't stay here again.

The location was exactly what we were looking for and we were very pleased that it didn’t have any type of bugs, but the room was not very clean and the bathroom was a little too snug. If I was a large person I would have been extremely uncomfortable staying here. For the price it was our best option and overall it was ok despite the compromises on cleanliness and size.It is a motel so we were expecting it to be smaller, but other than the bathroom setup the rest of the room wasn’t a bad size. To use the toilet you have to sit with your feet in the shower, and to shower the door has to stay open because there is not enough room to change or dry off. The door wouldn’t stay shut anyway because it needed trimmed to fit the threshold. If you are a bigger person, I’d probably recommend looking elsewhere - unless you don’t plan on using the bathroom or showering. As for cleanliness the room had a few dings and tiny stains. The floor was gross and the shower wasn’t the cleanest. I made sure to wear sandals the whole time we were there (especially in the shower). The shower curtain had terrible stains all over, particularly along the bottom and in some spots there was mold.Safety: Didn’t really have to worry - we stayed during the offseason (mid October). We were the only ones there most of the weekend. I thought it was more convenient and safer that they had individual door codes instead of key cards/key entries.

Check in was very easy, Sent and email and then a text to confirm our room and a pass code for the door as it's keyless entry. We were in room 20 1st room bottom floor near the office. King size bed, sheets had some minor stains on them but stains none the less. The bathroom was small but doable, my only real reason for 3 stars is the sheets and our bathroom curtain had mold/mildew on it.No bugs or creepy crawlies, smelled clean and was quite cozy and tidy. Not a noisy area and close to everything on Tybee including the beach.Stayed Sat-Tues and Overall me and my wife were happy especially for the price we really can't complain. Could be a few things to keep up on and this place would be 5 stars no problem.Rooms: This is an older family run motel on the lower end of the price spectrum in the area, that being said we were comfy and felt safe.Iron/Ironing boardKitchenette (Microwave, Small refrigerator, K-Cup Coffee maker)Minimal clothing storageTV with basic local cable

My friends and I stayed at the Royal Island looking for a room for the night. We met a lady that is local and she recommended several places to stay and this motel was one of them. We went back to see if there was anything available for the night and lucky for us.. there was a room open. The ladies at the front desk were so friendly and wonderful to work with, and our room was sooo cute! Great location - 5 minute walk to the beach and 5 minute drive to shopping area and places to eat!!After checking out, we all felt like we’ve lived there our entireHIGHLY RECOMMEND- definitely a 5⭐️Rooms: LOVED THE RETRO VIBES!!!Nearby activities: Shopping center 5 minutes from you!Safety: Never had to worry about anything!Walkability: Easy access to everything! Crosswalks everywhere!Food & drinks: Several great restaurants there! 5 minutes from where you are!

This was our first time to the area, we found this hotel on Google. I was sceptical at first based on the type and age of motel, I would normally pick a recognized brand of hotel to stay. However we were VERY happy with this place, we'd definitely stay again! The thing we enjoyed most about the entire island is that there is no "name brand" anything on the island. All restaurants and hotel/motels are locally owned small businesses, this place is no different. This is a small, old school motel. I'm guessing it was built in the 50s. It's clean and comfortable, service is AWESOME! Be aware that the rooms are small, but they were nice. It felt like a blast from the past to me, really enjoyed our stay both here and the entire island. We didn't use the outdoor pool but it looked very nice and clean. It's a fun place!Nearby activities: Beach and a ton of fun shops and restaurants. A laid back fun place.Walkability: You could walk most anywhere on the island. Beach is 5 minutes or less.

I'm pretty dissapointed in learning this place has such great reviews yet I can't seem to relate to any of them. The service was nice but the cleanliness of the room itself was nasty. On first glance, it's all neat and tidy but the more I looked and walked around I wanted to leave. The couch has random stains and when I pulled out the mattress in it, there seemed to be blood or cigarette stains on it. There was also a handful of crumbs on and IN the mattress itself. The fridge had a weird smell emitting from it, the bathroom door didn't close, and the shower also had mystery stains on the tile.

I see most of these reviews are from years ago or from people who have only ever stayed in the "family-size" suites. SPOILER ALERT: the rooms are effing tiny, like small to where they're trying to pander to the weird, hipster niche crowd who are into that tiny house garbage. The beds are cheap mattresses on creaky metal frames, there's nowhere to store anything and the sinks will run over due to being paired with a comparatively large faucet. And they have the gall to charge over a hundred dollars a night during the off-season?

Great location on Tybee, short walk to the beach. The Pavilion area is a very short drive or a doable walk. Rooms were clean and very cutely decorated. A great nostalgic feeling here. Staff was super friendly and helpful. While booking over the phone, she treated me more kindly than I have experienced in quite a long time. Definitely recommend.Rooms: Cute retro design and decor. Comfortable and clean. An older building and not luxurious but everything we needed.

When my family travels for vacation, we typically stay in a Hampton Inn. We like the chain and find the quality consistent. With that being said, we were not willing to spend almost $300 per night for a room we planned to spend about 9-10 hours per day in to sleep. We looked at many, many reviews of hotels on Tybee from budget to higher end. We found the price point of Royal Palms manageable for the quick get a way that it was intended to be. The reviews seemed positive- and thankfully no mention of bed bugs.Booking was easy and when I had a question I called, left a message with VM and received a call back quickly. We received a text with our room number and door code the day of check in and never had to go get a key card or see anyone at the front desk. Nice! The room was a typical 60's motel style- smallish- but comfortable size for 2 adults. It was cutely decorated with a retro fridge, microwave, and matching Keurig, chair and ottoman, and queen sized bed with white linens.Towels were laid out on the bed.Upon getting into the (very comfortable) bed, we discovered that the fitted sheet did not fit the 16" mattress. The sheet kept popping off the corner anytime we moved. It was late so we laid towels on the areas where the sheet did not cover. We also discovered that the vinyl floors were VERY dirty as evidenced by the dirt on the bottom of our clean socks. After a wonderful night's sleep (bed so comfy) we addressed our issues with the sheet and floor with the manager (owner?) behind the front desk. She assured us that both items would be taken care of before our expected return that evening.Upon our return, the short sheet had been replaced by a fully fitting fitted sheet- and the bed nicely made. The floor was better, but still not clean and continued to leave dirt on our socks. An item of concern was the AC. It was not pulling moisture out of the room through cooling despite being set between 70 and 72 degrees. The room felt humid and our bath towels never got dry enough to call them "dry" after the first night. I could see potential for mold, although I saw no mold currently. The bathroom was tiny and an attempt to increase storage space was made with a metal 3 tier cart. The top tier was chipped and rusted around the inner circumference of the tray. A towel placed on it would have covered the rust and been a nice touch. The bathroom appeared clean and the shower looked recently remodeled. To the bathroom side of the bed, there was scuff marks on the wall that looked reminiscent of some sort of horseplay or a struggle taking place on the bed with feet/shoes kicking the wall.Overall, the room was decent for the price. We did not partake of the pool but it looked clean and inviting.

Everything about this place is awesome! It’s all completely renovated and the vibes are immaculate. It is truly a hidden gem. The decor is adorable and honestly takes you back in time. No detail was overlooked in creating this place. It was clean & the beds were comfortable. It was an extremely easy check-in process & Miss Kim was just as sweet as she could be. We will absolutely be staying here again & I will recommend it to anyone visiting the island.

I just checked in and I will update if needed but so far I’m more than just satisfied… I’m blown away.First, the red-haired woman at the front desk is absolutely amazing. Charming, friendly, clearly eager to help and make sure you have a good vacation both on property and off. You just don’t see that type of customer service. The room is absolutely clean and comfortable. They had an issue before we checked in - that they identified, we didn’t have to discover and complain- and upgraded us to make sure we would have an amazing stay.Location is good. Just a quick walk over to the beach. Thus far, I absolutely would recommend this in the highest possible terms.

We stayed here after going through multiple searches on VRBO/AirBnb, and not finding anything reasonably priced. When your room is ready they send a code for your room via text. They’ll call you and verify you received the text. We had no problems at all with communication with staff, and both ladies we spoke with were very nice and accommodating to whatever we needed!Rooms are super cute and updated to a retro vibe. We stayed in two separate rooms during our stay due to adding an extra night. Only negative about the rooms we noticed were the large gaps around the main door (both rooms), like they needed to be resealed.Parking lot is TIGHT. If you have a big car you’ll have to back out of the spot to allow your passengers to get in and out.I would definitely stay here again if we came to Tybee!

This is a gem. I love old Mom and Pop motels, but usually avoid them. When they’re good they are great, but when they’re bad, they’re horrid. This place looks retro, but for the most part it’s very updated. Key code entry locks, tiled showers, efficient kitchen in our suite. The only negative is very limited parking, with very small spots. If you come, park in the lines!

We really enjoyed this place overall. The hotel was updated and the rooms were very clean. Customer service was awesome and the location to the beach is amazing. It’s literally a 5 min walk down 10th street. This is a motel so it’s not fancy and the room was small. The bathroom/sink were tiny. The parking lot was tiny and very tight so big vehicles may have a problem. We never used the pool but it looked nice. Overall for the price we enjoyed our stay and would come back again.

I absolutely love Royal Palms. I have never been disappointed from this motel. I have been coming here since I was 9 and I am now 49. Never had any body be rude to us every one is always helpful. Definitely will be back!!!! Love love the new look!! The lady at the front was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! To be there this time during Pirate fest made our stay even better this year.

I loved our experience here. Each room has everything you need for a great Tybee trip! The studio rooms are a bit small but very clean, all new amenities, comfy beds and great staff. Its a bit of a walk from here to south beach but there is beach access right across the street of you don't want to take the walk. Absolute best value on Tybee!

I’m not going to sugar coat nothing and just be honest for those looking to see if the price is worth for where they’ll be staying on vacation. It’s a motel it’s not a presidential suite or anything so don’t expect that. The parking is lowkey crowded but it’s not a big place anyway so there will be parking either across or by the pool. The rooms are very small and everything is miniature the bathroom the sink but hey it’s a motel. Our room was mostly clean the floor was very dirty but I wouldn’t walk barefoot in any hotel anyway everything else was clean just very small and crowded. Although The customer service was excellent! In my opinion the ladies at the front desk were extremely nice and helpful! The pool was alright but the location was perfect! The location is what you’re paying for, it’s just a 2-4 minute walk and you’re on the beach! If the beach is what you’re going for the location is perfect there weren’t too many food options after 8 or 9 really so unless you pack food Wendy’s is what you have to settle for at a 15 minute drive

What a cute little gem! They really give a whole new meaning to a motel. The room was adorable and I really loved the fun beach colors. The beds were comfortable, the room was very clean, staff was friendly and the layout of the room was perfect for our needs. It was nice being able to park right outside the room and not have to carry bags far. I highly recommend this little beauty. You won’t be disappointed.

The cutest motel I’ve ever stayed at! Becky at the front desk was amazing, insightful, and so friendly. The room was clean (we had one little roach but it happens) and the beds were surprisingly really comfortable! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.

The good reviews do not lie. This place is clean, well priced and a great place to lay your head at night. The owner runs the front desk and treats you with great southern hospitality. The rooms are a fun step back into what a motel is supposed to be. The rooms are a bed, bathroom and great retro appliances to give you just what you need when exploring Tybee and Savanna and nothing more. Stay here and get exactly what you need for a beach vacation. Also they are motorcycle friendly and while you get one space with a room they gave me an extra for my bike. I had intended to park in front of my truck to follow rules but they accommodated me with no issue.
