The vets and techs are all so patient and caring! I brought in a stray cat who'd never been to the vet before, and she freaked out on them, and they reacted so calmly and compassionately and let her "hide" for a while and take her time coming to them. Also highly knowledgeable and explained everything really well to me. And open on weekends??? Can't recommend this place highly enough. They really do treat pets like people. ❤️

I have three yellow Labs of which I am very protective. I have had them to a few vets around Tucker and Decatur, but never felt quite right. They either want to sell me something or don't do a thorough exam, or the office is usually in disarray.I had been to People's Pets a number of years ago with a sick dog on Labor Day. Dr. Lavell was there to take care of her.When I went back with the three new dogs it was like I never left. The office staff was pleasant, friendly and inviting. The vet tech was great! I felt very comfortable with my dogs there.Dr. Lavell talked with me about them then did a thorough exam. She found some things wrong that I was unaware of and prescribed some medication.I had one issue that I had seen another vet about. Dr. Lavell's was a more thorough exam and her vast experience gave her insight to the problem. I am now treating the dog with some medication that should help, but if it doesn't Dr. Lavell already has further treatment planned if necessary.I've had dogs for the last 45 years and have seen some very good vets come and go. I can say without trepidation that The People's Pets is the best vet for my current pack. I am so glad I am back there and I know my dogs are in good hands.UPDATEI'm reducing my stars to 3.I went back with a sick dog. I advised the office of what was happening and made an appointment. I get there and they give me a Rent-A-Vet who has never seen the dog and is unaware of the discussion Dr. Lavell and I had. The office did not advise me that I was going to see a Rent-A-Vet. If they had I would not have gone until Lavell was back from vacationing in St.Croix. My $1100 helped pay for that trip. I had to suggest to the Rent-A-Vet that maybe an anti-inflammatory would help the dogs inflammation.So I called back to get the heart worm prescriptions faxed to an outside pet pharmacy.for the dogs. "That's against protocol." was the response from the clerk at the desk.The following vets will fax:DearbornDeKalbTuckerWhitewayThe fact is they have their own pet pharmacy and want me to buy from them. The other vets have their own pharmacies but are professional enough to accept the customers request.The office operation is un-professional and incompetent.

We took a dog there on a Sunday afternoon that we had found running down the street. They checked her for a chip and gave her a very complete exam. They helped us figure out what to do next if we couldn’t find her owner, and they are great community resource!

‼️Definitely DO NOTT recommend!! I used to bring my baby here since he was a puppy, NOT ANY MOREEE!! POOOR CUSTOMER SERVICE‼️Some of the ladies were amazing and helpful but there were some that were extremely rude especially the doctor, she was not willing to spend time with him or gain my baby’s trust and definitely not even mine. There has been various occasions I took my baby here and on those occasions the same things will happen, awful awful tone of voice and quickly dismissive towards me and my dog!! I took him yesterday and it was a HORRIBLE experience for me and my dog! She wanted me to have him on medication for TWO WEEKS to “calm” him down? She was quick to say my dog wasn’t worth her time or her staff getting hurt, after having 2 muzzle on him!! I felt super uncomfortable and really UNWANTED there and if I felt that way imagine how my baby felt!! No wonder he didn’t want her near him!!I took my baby to a new vet today and he didn’t act the same as he did with them, he definitely didn’t cooperate at first but at least the new vet was willing to work with him as a GOOD VET SHOULD!!I recommend North Hills Animal Hospital! AMAZING SERVICE!! 100/100 ⭐️

I took my dog here to be treated for fleas,they were extremely unprofessional,they treated him in the lobby area and did not put us in the room to get an exam nor did she receive an exam. The woman that gave her the medicine didn’t even look through her fur. And when I requested to be put in a room with the DOCTOR the woman at the front got an attitude and told me she will be with me in one moment and never came back, I had to end up paying for medicine and left with no proper examination& didn’t be seen by THE DOCTOR ,when I left I called back and requested to speak with the doctor and the woman was extremely rude telling me if I seen fleas then no exam was needed by the doctor and that she was with clients (which is not fair) ,I told her he was slamming his head on the ground as well,something else had to be wrong I ended up bringing him to a petstore clinic and they told me he had a really bad ear infection & fleas if you would’ve done the exam we wouldn’t have this problem. Also the woman (don’t know her name she’s brownskin) I saw her chasing a client outside and blurted that their card declined infront if everyone who was waiting in the parking lot. And held her shoulder and walked her back in ,why were you holding her like that? Like you were the police???also, why didn’t you clean the lobby after I left with my dog that had fleas? You instead allowed someone to walk in directly after I left. We should’ve been put in a room.

Dr. Kat is amazing. My dogs love going to see her. The staff is always friendly. I've been going here for the last three years and I've never once had an issue. This last time my dog had to have surgery on his face. She did such a good job with the surgery in the stitches that I couldn't remember which side of his face was injured. I recommend her to everyone.

Start by saying I have been using this vet for care and boarding for my dog (55lb, Shepard lab mix) for about two years with no issues. Staff is always super friendly and professional, vets and techs have been great, they call me if they have questions and everything. The issue was today when I brought my new adopted dog (75lbs, pit and lab mix) in for a temperament test for boarding. To say it was a cluster would be an understatement. The woman who walked my dog back was gone for 30 seconds, came back, and said essentially that he was too anxious for them to board him. I explained his situation in detail. Old shelter dog, somewhat nervous, but he is a gentle boy. They backtracked and said they would board him, but "What is your plan if he has to be picked up, who is going to do that, what if he stops eating, what if he causes problems, you'll have to pay, etc?" As if I haven't spent literally thousands of dollars on pet care in this establishment already. She then implied that because he was such a big dog, he might be aggressive toward the other dogs or people and that it was going to be too hard to control him. She said that he was "freaked out." A veterinarian came out and said that some other big rescue dog had damaged property and if my dog damaged anything I would be liable, etc. Okay? This animal lived in my house for 9 months and hasnt never destroyed a thing.The female employee treated me in a very demeaning way. Her attitude implied that I was somehow a piece of human trash for thinking he could be boarded. My expertise about my own pet's behavior was irrelevant.She made up her mind he was going to be a problem. I suspect discrimination against pit mixes. In summary, this place is great for certain dogs. But don't take your large breed anxious rescues in here because you will be met with hostility. I was extremely upset by this whole experience and I will be finding a new boarding place and veterinarian. I am sad, because I have appreciated this business, and they seem to really care. By the end of the ordeal, I felt that I wouldn't leave him there no matter what. I don't think he would have gotten great care.The receptionist was very kind.

I am a little surprised by the negative reviews. I am going to be as fair with my review as possible. I have been to a couple different vets since having my pet and since finding Kat I don't plan on going anywhere else. She is amazing with my dog and I have never had any issues with her staff. They are very helpful and friendly. I have found that the services and medications can be a little more expensive than other vets, but I'm willing to pay a little more if I'm receiving care and service the justifies it. I even recommended Kat to a friend who had a vet that couldn't determine what was wrong with his dog. After one visit and the recommended treatment for his dog the problem was solved. He now drives out of his way to see Kat. I have also boarded my dog there with no issues. The only issues I have had is with the vet they had on a Sunday and I believe he was a vet that rotates on the weekends. He really didn't take time to talk to me or explain anything and I didn't feel that he really examined my dog well. I solve that by just making sure I go during the week when I can see Kat. The only other issue has been with grooming. It can be hit or miss. The last time I went they did a terrible job and I have since found a place that I really like. If you're interested in a vet that will take time to explain any diagnosis of your pet, answer all your questions and is AMAZING with your pet Kat and her staff are exceptional and she has always followed up to check on my pet. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is for the grooming.

We've been with Dr. Lavelle since we became dog owners in 2013 and we love her and the entire team. Very knowledgeable, matter of fact, and loving. I had several recent visits for both my dogs that have fortified my confidence in People's Pets. Thank you for your work!*Edit- our dog recently passed away and Dr. Lavelle was very compassionate and knowledgeable. She did some testing and found out what kind of cancer he had and was able to inform us how long we had with him, etc. She's great.

I have been taking my dog here for over 15 years. Dr. Lavell is a very knowledgeable and compassionate doctor. Her passion is truly with animals! I can't imagine going anywhere else for my dog's needs. In fact, I don't live near her office, but gladly make the trip because of the level of care she and her staff devote to the animals. The staff is dedicated and friendly. My sweet dog had several health issues over the years and Dr. Lavell was always helpful in taking the time to explain treatment options and what to expect with my dog's care. I highly recommend her!

Recently relocated to the area and needed a veterinarian for a new pet. I had the most heart warming visit/experience. This is the most caring clinic I have ever taken a pet. From the receptionist to the Dr, just incredible. You can tell everyone there truly loves animals from the bottom of their hearts. I will take all my pets here from now on!!

I’ve been taking my girl Brownie here since she was 2.5 months old. She’s almost three now and I’ll never take her to another vet! From her yearly checkups to emergency trips to boarding, I’ve always felt safe and confident to leave her in their care. She is a large pit mix and has always been greeted with enthusiasm and love! Compared to pricing I’ve heard from my parents and friends vets the People’s Pets is very fair as well!

Every single staff member genuinely cares about your pet.I took our 6 year old cat and they were lovely with her. They went above and beyond to make her comfortable. Our cat got nervous and peed on herself during the car ride there and they immediately washed her off, cleaned out her cage, and gave us a new towel.Our kitty baby had to have a mass removed and Dr. Lavell was personable and understanding. She worked with us and cut a lot of the price off of the surgery and waved the fee on a lot of the treatment that we couldn't afford.They still call to check in on her and all of the staff are very caring.

Chelsea the manager is so rude and unprofessional. I called about my dogs prescription which I was told would be ready and she completely snapped! She cursed me out while my 12 year old was standing next to me! She kept going and going I can’t believe I was speaking to a manager! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS! Sad thing too the vet was super nice but if your manager is a rude unprofessional woman these not much you can do!

The health and well being of all our dogs has been superbly managed by Dr Lavell and her staff at The People's Pets for more that 20 years. Everyone working there is sensitive, knowledgeable and caring. I can't imagine why I would ever consider taking my dogs to anyone else, except in rare situations when they've recommended the additional care that we've needed.

My wife and I are very pleased with the care that our Basset Hound has been receiving over the past four years. The staff members are very caring and considerate. Great place! Came here for the first time for new dog transfer of care. Having weekends available is so convenient. When arrived I was immediately greeted, all staff encountered with were great! bloodwork done in house, same day results,meds available for purchase. I still received prescriptions, the doctor was kind and stated we can fill out forms and fax back if needed. Definitely happy with new veterinary chosen for my four legged friend!

Professional staff, caring touch even with a large, busy facility. Their triage system seemed to work well. The outside of the building needs touching up, but the interior is modern and clean. Both the techs and doctors were friendly and made us feel at ease, a necessary skill when handling pet emergencies.
