Best, locally owned, restaurant in the area. Go early cause it fills up fast at dinner time. They only take cash or checks, so leave your plastic in your purse. We've gone twice now and it is like a family atmosphere. Don't be surprised if the folks at the next table strike up a conversation or participate in yours! It is awesome!!! Great people. Looking forward to family and friends visiting so we can take them too!

We had a party of over 20 people, and the food came out hot, fresh, and tasty. Yes, we had to wait a bit, but our waitress kept our drinks full. When we left, we discovered the other side of the restaurant was wall to wall people too. Amazing job, folks. Cheerful people. Great prices.Wheelchair accessibility: If your chair can fit through a regular house door, they'll be able to accommodate you.

Fried catfish was as good as you can hope for and exactly what you want from a place like this. I can't wait to go back.The only real negative thing i have to say is that they don't take credit cards.

I've been coming here since I can remember anything, which is the better part of 40 years now. This is where I started my art career having drawing contests with my Dad at the age of 5 (me, not him) and I owe my love and life of art to Papa and Mama Herb ☺️I live in Atlanta now but many times when I come home my Mom will say "let's go to Herb's" and I'm already in the car fastening my safety belt before she's pronouncing the apostrophe. The shrimp is so good I haven't ordered most anything else as long as I've been coming in, although I recall I did consume my fair share of catfish and fried catfish tails as a kid. Tea, sweet and unsweet, is top notch.Run by sweet, hardworking people and a hidden jewel of central Georgia. You can't go wrong with Herb's.Also, I suppose it bears mentioning that I haven't been there in a few months, but I'm just taking some time out of my evening to show love, that's how much I think of them ❤️

Great food and value priced. I been other place that were no where near as good, and they were higher priced. When I was there last on May 14th, 2022, it was close to closing time we had 4 adults. We got the extras and full plates, out the door I paid a 20%+ tip with the bill was around $60.00. For everything we got I thought the bill should have been higher, this was a great value. Great place to eat.

We ate from Herb’s for the first time and boy was it good, like I remember as a young boy. The coleslaw is the best in Milledgeville and the catfish I have not had better in 30 years .Yes I will go back and I do recommend this food establishment nothing fancy , but good food.

Food was delicious !We had a mixture of fish , shrimp , scallops , oysters , and deviled crab.Most of it fried. Some of the shrimp broiled.Excellent !!Have been back multiple times. Food and service are great every time.Once again all was on point !!The froglegs are great too !!

On Thursday night last my wife and I went toHerb’s for catfish & flounder. It was awful - the “medium” catfish that my wife got had very little meat to go with the generous helping of corn meal batter & bones. My flounder filet tasted like the processed, very thin & tasteless excuse for fish I got on my most recent and absolutely last visit to a Red Lobster. ALL of our food - fish, fries, onion rings, & hush puppies- was cold. First of all, I don’t care for their “seat yourself” policy because a couple that came in last night about ten minutes after we found a table got waited on almost immediately and were eating their dinner about five minutes before we were visited by a not-too-happy or pleasant waitress (we had already been seated about 15-20 minutes). I asked for a pitcher of fresh water and she seemed displeased. She took our order and in about 10-15 minutes an older and very nice lady brought our meals to the table. We never saw our waitress again except to, without a smile or word, drop the check on the table. I remember in the 70’s & 80’s eating there with my parents. Herb, no longer living, would come around and talk all through the restaurant with his customers. My parents loved his fried flounder - both whole & filets. My dad said that Herb told him it came fresh-caught from Savannah. Bless your hearts folks, am sure you’re trying to keep up Herb’s tradition & name; however, as the old phrase goes: “the old grey mare, she ain’t what she used to be”! Next time we will try Thompson’s Cove in Toomsboro,Ga (both places a 35+ mile drive for us).
