Pardon the pun but this was a gem of a place. A must visit for family and friends who are looking to go "gemming".

Staff was very friendly, need to make some improvements. They are working on it but I feel it is lacking something to really draw attention to the business. Needs maintenance done to the grounds. Also it would have been nice if the sluice boxes were closer to the store.

I took my children to Talking Rock General Store for gem mining 7/24/2018. Shortly receiving our buckets the overwhelming smell of gasoline penetrated the covered work area. Before I realized it my children were taking their flip flops off dusting sand from their feet when I noticed the area was soaked in gasoline!I changed locations to catch breathable air hurried them to finish their bucket ultimately I ended up having to leave with my children due to the overwhelming fumes.Even though I should have I did not request a refund my only concern was getting my children out of that environment as quickly as possible.I called back shortly after to let them know our experience was rushed due to the conditions. The gentleman said it was not gas it was ant killer. I have called exterminator and Home Depot and both stated they know of no safe fire-ant killer that would smell like gasoline.I get it! He was trying to do a good thing by killing ants so they don’t bit guest but that’s what u do in the fields you set on fire and the gasoline is consumed not breathed and played in by kids!!!There are environmentally friendly ways to control ants around children and advise this business to do dome research so they aren’t exposing children and their families to toxic chemicals. On a positive note:The gems are wonderful you get a nice variety once home the kids really enjoyed identifying the stones and reading about the different healing powers of each one!Over all this establishment does have a nice set up I just hate it that the method used to control ants ruined the over all experience.Perhaps your experience will be better!

We stopped here on our way to Ranger GA. There's almost nowhere to stop for food along hwy 136 until you come to this little oasis in Talking Rock. It was way better than anything we had expected to find. It's a cozy little general store with cool stuff for sale and outstanding bbq. The food was delicious and the folks working there were friendly and gave us top notch service. The environment was inviting and the bathroom was exceptionally clean. This place definitely deserves 5 stars.

This was fun for my 2 year old and four year old niece. I wish the fossil dig would have had fossils other than seashells, which was explained as such, therefore we didn't participate. We drove nearly 40 miles to visit this place and wish there was more to do! The girls treasure their gemstones.

I have been to the Talking Rock General a few times and the staff are always friendly and helpful. They keep the place clean and cozy! You can find all kinds of unique gift ideas there, from desk decorations to collectible memorabilia. There are some unique items there you just won't find anywhere else, and gold and gem stone panning outside of the store. It's just a really cool, quaint little country general store with easy access from highway (GA-515) on the way to Blue Ridge. I highly recommend stopping there to check it out!

Everyone should take their family here especially the kids. Killer prices and lots of fun for the kids. They may even find a gemstone outside in the panning area. Fine gifts and lots of trinkets to buy. Good prices. Fun 4 all.🐣

My wife and I were taking our grandson to see the Fall foilage and passed by Talking Rock General. We stopped in and WOW, what a place. If you have a kid who likes dinosaurs, fossils, mining, or gold panning, this is the place! We had a hard time getting him out of there. Every where you turn there is another kind of rock, stone, gem, shark tooth. The owner was awesome and spent time talking with our grandson about the fossils he "dug up" at the "fossil dig". He's 9 years old and loved it. Take your kids, they will love it.

Great place to spend an hour if you're out this way. Kids panned for gems and found arrowheads, gems, fossils and sharks teeth. A really great way to learn about minerals and precious metals while having fun!

Stopped by ,on a Wednesday afternoon, after attending a funeral with my kids, This place made there day. We did gem mining that made there day. When we went in we purchased a couple of geodes. The Wonderful ladie at counter explained the press was broken. She then told me it would be just as fun to break with a hammer. We did not let this ruin the joy. We took the geodes home, with chisel in hand, chiseled those gems. This was a memory to never be forgotten. Thank you
