UPDATE: We did it, everyone! They finally got rid of their hermit crabs :DThis is animal cruelty! No sunlight or lamps, no sand, no good food... the crabs are outgrowing their shells, and they don't offer them empty ones to change out of. I added a photo where you can see the crab whose shell is so small that he can't retreat in it. He sleeps outside of his shell. And I know people are going to read this and say "theyre just hermit crabs," but even then, they chose to sell them, so they should be taking care of them.

We visited on the weekend of February 2nd.The Maxwell general store has been good every time I went over there. They have a good selection of gifts, supplies, and more.I see that they stopped selling live hermit crabs. That's great, because that was bad treatment.Overall, a nice clean shop.

The merchandise is fine; the real issue is the abysmal treatment of the hermit crabs they sell. As pictured, they have no sand and are all crammed into the same cage with no places to hide. They will likely die from stress shortly after purchase.

I always enjoy this place.It's like going to a high-end yard sale.The inventory varies widely, and it is packed to the rafters, which makes every visit an adventure.It's prices are high, just like at every other "touristy" retail establishment.

They literally have just about anything you could want for an island vacation. Several deli type stands for fresh food, beer, wine and liquor, grocery type foods, shirts, sunscreen you name it. It's crowded as heck and narrow aisles but it's because of they pack it in there. Highly recommend

Typical tourist priced beach store. Selection of wares was really good & their fishing section was well stocked! Some items were very overpriced, but others were not, so depending on what you want it's hit or miss. It's worth going in to look around.

Return policy stinks. After paying 24.99 for an overpriced toy I thought was 4.99, I asked to return the toy for my money back. Mind you I was still standing at the register... I was told by the cashier they did not do returns, but I could exchange it for something else in the store. So.... make sure you really, really want what you are purchasing because you cannot return it.

A very pleasant one-time shop. They have a little bit of everything: beach supplies, shirts and hats, OTC medicine, hardware, pets supplies, etc.It's a tight store. Wheelchairs can get in, but wouldn't be able to move around much. And, it was a little warm.Prices were good overall. Some good deals and some high prices. Most were reasonable.

Neat place with lots of options for food and supplies. Delicious fried seafood and barbecue at one counter. A healthy salad bar and deli for other choices. Then on to the dessert counter. Plus good selection of wine and beer including service while you shop. Tables inside and out to enjoy your food. A really popular place.

Staff totally unhelpful (“manager” too) when I inquired about the manufacturer of some really shoddy merchandise. “Duh, I dunno.” Complaint letter from two weeks ago has triggered no response.The photos are of a reel priced at $39.99. The EBay screenshot shows 3 of them for $27.99. Truly a ripoff but as tourists, we should expect it. You’d think as the state licenses stores they would require a higher bar.

Maxwell's is the most practical and reasonably priced store on the island. It is literally the only place to go if you need beach toys, hardware, monogram decals (like for on a Yeti), seashells, or pet hermit crabs (plus a dazzling array of hermit crab accessories). Plus reasonably priced souvenirs, t-shirts, hats, coolers, sunscreen, toys, puzzles, and just about anything else you could need for your vacation.

It was just ok. I ran in the grab a hat because I left mine at home and the shelf with baseball hats was a bit pitiful. It had clearly been picked over as nothing was displayed nice and neat, many of the hats only had one left in stock and the young lady behind the counter had absolutely zero interest in helping us. Ultimately we did buy a hat, but I doubt I will be back.

This use to be called a hardware store and still has many hardware store items. They sell tshirts, beach chairs, beach shoes and other souvenirs.They also sell fishing licenses. Be prepared as this item is cash only. An annual license is about $15 for residents and $50 for non-residents.One of the more practical stores in the Beach Village.

Fun stop while visiting the island, if you are looking for a tshirt of hat to remember you vacation this is the place. Also have a nice selection of fishing tackle, you can buy fishing licenses there, and even get embroidery done. Well worth a stop

Visited the store over Thanksgiving and found a really cute shirt. Wanted another in a different size. They were so helpful and shipped me out the shirt the next day.

This was probably one of the. Cheaper shops with great merchandise. The guy joked with us and made us feel comfortable so yea spent 64 bucks in here just cause.. Ill definately be back
