Let me start with the pros. They have plenty of outdoor seating by the river. As well as plentiful indoor seating. Both the hostess and our waitress were very friendly. Our waitress was fantastic. She came by just often enough and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. I also like how they have a chef inspired wing flavor that changes periodically. The french fries and fried pickle spears appetizer were amazing.Now for the cons, which was basically just the chicken wings. We chose this restaurant based on other reviewers photos of how good the chicken wings looked. The hot wings we received were large, yes, however they were not crispy at all. They had a decent amount of fat on them and were more rubbery and chewy like baked wings you would get from a pizza restaurant.

Food was good, fast service, lots of options for beer on tap. Right on the river! Definitely would recommend. Prices were a little high but aligned with other places in the area. Just chalked it up to getting more from tourists.Parking: $10 to park right behind the tavern. A bit high for just being there an hour…

Food was delicious, as well as the drinks. They don't skimp on the alcohol, you actually feel like you get your money's worth. I went around noon on a Tuesday and it wasn't busy at all. Such a nice experience to sit by the river and enjoy my lunch and drink. Service was a little slow but they have a sign outside saying they're short staffed so it's totally understandable, and the staff was very friendly.

Sat at the bar New Year’s Day. Place was super busy so we sat at the bar. JR at the bar was hustling taking care of everyone with a happy disposition. Enjoyed hanging there and warming up. Pretzel was good, Grilled cheese was good, shrimp po was the only slightly disappointing thing…had way too much sauce pouring off of it making the sandwich feel like a complete mess.

One of the few places to eat after 8 p.m on New Years eve.Not too bad of wait considering. Ordered some Germanfare to see Was Denn Los....Having spent many, manyyears in Germany the German fare is ok. It's more Americantasting than Deutche. The Knochwurst is very fatty and thegreen beans are not good at all. The Jager Schnitzel ismore of an American fried pork chop. Food was just okbut definitely not a German eating experience. NEIN!

The food was delicious and the beer selection was excellent. The schnitzel with gravy is absolutely worth ordering. The pretzel as an appetizer was also really nice, especially with the beer cheese sauce. The seating right next to the river is lovely but otherwise the outdoor seating options aren’t fantastic. Although, the indoor seating also looked like a decent option.The waitress was also very attentive and friendly.

Does not even remotely resemble authentic German cuisine. The schnitzel is a southern fried pork chop on dollar gentral saurkrout. The red cabbage was also poor.The management had zero interest in correcting the dissatisfaction and were actually some what rude.Rueban was the highlight. Good sandwich but did not make up for the experience.General feeling of the restaurant was zero ambiance just a bar in a mall space rental location.Do not recommend.Been to Bavaria. At the cost you are better off taking the flight.

My daughter and I chose to eat at this restaurant due to the popular location right at the bridge of downtown Helen. It was neat to sit and watch the people tubing down the river. You also can see all the MANY padlocks that have been placed on the fence under the bridge. Our servers were great and very timely. Our order of pretzel and beer cheese were mediocre (only disappointment). Our sandwiches were very good though. Still recommend trying them out. We would come again to try more on the menu when returning.

The only reason I won’t give The Troll a 5 ⭐️ is just for me being picky. The wait staff are good, but sometimes not great. I live about 2 hours away and I’ve been coming to Helen 2-3 times a year for over 30 years, so I have some experience coming here quite a bit. The Troll has gotten better since I first started coming here. They have a fairly big menu and the food is really good most of the time and great some of the time. (Again, this is me being picky). When we’ve had large parties come in, more times than not, the orders are wrong and most of the wait staff are great and fix any issues right away. There has been occasions when 1 or 2 of them wasn’t so eager to fix an issue and their attitude reflected it. This is a very busy restaurant, so I understand that sometimes things get crazy and mixed up, so I understand it can get frustrating for the wait staff & cooks. Overall, this place is very good! More times than not, we order German fare. As I said, a large menu to accommodate all walks of life, great beer selection, large indoor seating w/ a bar, outside raised deck and patio next to the river. I always suggest The Troll to anyone visiting, as they usually do a very good job.

Great beer as well as decoration. Both white and red colored Sauerkraut were too salty and sour respectively. The mashed potatoes were good but the fried foods were too oily. Also no trolls in sight, very disappointed.

Troll Tavern is a cool place right beside the river to grab drinks & a meal. They have indoor & outdoor seating, also a full bar. We had drinks while waiting on an outside table with great views of the river. Food was good. I had the Muffalotta with a Strawberry Margarita. Service was excellent, waitstaff are super friendly. Definitely a great place.

Tonight, I dine on German Bratwursts!!! First, I love Helen, GA and I love the Bavarian style structures of this town. When you arrive at the Tavern, it's sits below the bridge next to a river. Quite the scenery. No reservations, but a small wait time on a busy Saturday Night. Once in, this place was busy. Our waiter was excellent and quick to assure we had a good experience.The menu has many options, burgers, seafood, po-boys and German fare. I ordered the triple stack. The 2 bratwurst were cooked well done and very juicy and filling. The wienerschnitzel was a bit thick and not as thin as I'm used to. Otherwise, it had a crispy crust and great flavor. The Mas potatoes were a great compliment with red cabbage. I'm not a fan of any sauerkraut, lol.The pretzel appetizer was damn good, but that beer cheese was more like a soup than a snack melted cheese.Overall, small tavern with a good selection on the menu. I did notice the patio was a bit cramped, but at least you can have your dog out. I was lucky with the waiter because other reviews stating waitstaff not as courteous. The prices is a bit steep for the choices, maybe inflation. Keep an eye out on Google for other choices.

Fun little joint to sit by the river, cool off, and watch the tubers get stuck on a rock. The vegetarian wrap could have used a little love (maybe add hummus or a house made sauce) but it was otherwise tasty. The beer cheese soup was exceptional and the chicken was cooked to perfection... No pink but wonderfully juicy. Could not tell if the Kraut was in-house made or from a jar but it paired very well over my chicken :-)Also, take a minute while you are there and enjoy all of the locks of love. We tried to see how many of them had our names on them ;-)

Visited on Cinco de Mayo for lunch while taking family to Helen that were visiting.The location is top notch right on the river with outdoor sitting.The food was great. Had a picky eater that also said the food was nice.The beer selection is very good and recommend getting draft vs bottled whenever possible.
