We had a very enjoyable dinner at the Heidelberg this week while on vacation in Helen. The weather is beautiful so we chose to eat outdoors on the second floor balcony. The View was wonderful overseeing the beer garden. The service was excellent, prompt, and friendly. The restaurant was clean as where the bathrooms. My husband had pork schnitzel stuffed with bacon and mushrooms, spatzle, and German potato salad. I enjoyed a pork schnitzel stuffed with cream cheese and chives, along with a double order of spatzle. The portions were very large we ended up taking half home to our hotel where we fortunately had a refrigerator and microwave. We ended up having the rest for lunch the next day. It was a very enjoyable meal and we pass along our compliments to all the staff on a great job! Highly recommend if you're in the area

The Heidelberg is our FAVORITE restaurant in Helen! The best beer on tap in town, the ABSOLUTE BEST pretzels!!! Now the butter that comes with the pretzel just tastes like unsalted melted butter but get the cheese, its excellent! The schnitzel sandwich is nice and flavored, and the brown mustard added takes it up a notch! The fries are fresh and delicious too!! 😋 We have been twice and plan to go at least once more before leaving town, its THAT good! Service is excellent too.We wound up stopping in 2 more times. We got the schnitzel sandwich and fries on the second visit and it was nice and thick! Great flavor and GREAT bread! The last visit we got bratwurst and the heidelburger. Both were excellent! The only thing we didnt care for was the german potato salad. More like just buttered potatoes, no tang or zip at all. Still one of our favorite places!

Visiting North Georgia and made a detour to Helen to check out the shops and have lunch. We had everything from the wonderful pretzel with beer cheese(which I would recommend skipping...the 4 different kinds of mustard provided on the table paired perfectly with it and a beer) the schnitzel, red cabbage, wurst and potato salad, well everything was wonderful. One of the many great places to stop and eat in Helen GA.

Authentic German dishes. Had a great dinner on my birthday. Not enough room for dessert after a great dinner. Didn't use the stairs, to the left of the restaurant is a sidewalk that brings you to the second floor restaurant, no steps involved.🙂Wheelchair accessibility: Sidewalk to the left of the restaurant brings you to two red doors and into the restaurant on the second floor.

Went to Helen GA for the first time today and wanted some good German food. I know what that should taste like so I was pleasantly surprised by how good our food was. We ordered the JAGERSCHNITZEL (We got the breaded & fried version, but you can also get it grilled) with sides of German potato salad and sauerkraut. DELICIOUS.We weren't really very hungry or we definitely would have tried the yummy looking large pretzel with the beer cheese. They also have cocktails and lots of beer to choose from!Just from what I saw of the inside of the restaurant, it would not be the type of atmosphere I would like. That said, I would say that about most places. I usually prefer to eat outside. Luckily, they did have a small balcony with 4 outside tables. So we were fortunate enough to get seated out there and have great live music coming from the beer garden next door to listen to.Our server had only been there a few weeks but he was fabulous as well.Would definitely return!

We love coming here. We have been twice. Once last year and 364 days later we are back. The snitzel and sausages are deelish. My wife loves the smoked salmon with cream cheese and capers. I enjoyed drinking the Ocktoberfest draft. It would be cool to have something a little stronger on yap. Anyways our server was awesome. We had her last year too so it was cool to see her help us again. We love the place and will be back. Auf wiedersehen!Wheelchair accessibility: It's upstairs but I know the exit has a ramp to the outside.

Young man working upstairs/outdoors tonight has something to learn about courtesy and professionalism. Didn't appreciate his dirty looks or his scathing remarks to his coworker after I asked him to bring the card-swipe device out to the table. Didn't know it was attached to a cable+not mobile. He's so smug. Business owners: avoid this kid til he grows up.

The pretzel was absolutely the best that I have had. The spatzle was very bland, but I am not sure how it is supposed to taste! Schnitzel was good. Large portion. Sauerkraut and potatoes were good. The waiter was great, good fast service in the beginning. We finished our drinks in the middle of our meal and had our glasses on the outside of the table for easy refills. He went by us several times, and we asked him twice for a refill. After paying our bill, we kept sitting at the table until he finally brought us "to go" drinks. All in all, I might go back for the pretzel but sad about our drink experience.

I give it a 4.5 to 4.75Food was good. Service was a little slow to get our drinks but food came out pretty quick. Server was somewhat attentive but not overly so. Atmosphere inside is a bit drab. Prices were ok for the quality and quantity of food received. Between the 3 of us we got 3 teas, 2 Reubens, side of Spaetzel, a Schnitzel plate and potato pancakes for an appetizer. After $13 tip it was $79They bring you a receipt with a subtotal... you add tip then they charge tax and add 3.99% for credit/debit card fee which is a bit ridiculous.

We visited Helen on a Sunday via a tour group that left from Atlanta. Helen was the last stop on the tour. We had about 2.5 hours to dine and shop. We immediately beelined to The Heidelberg thinking it might be busy but we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't busy at all. We were seated immediately, with our table looking out the window just above their sign so we had nice views of people watching. We ordered sausage, sauerkraut, and potato cakes. I had a house red wine and my date has a beer. The food was really good! And the prices, I was surprised at how low the final bill was. Service was really great but there was no one else in the dining room with us until we we're half way through our meal. Bathrooms were clean. Definitely check it out.

The best pretzel and meal we have had in Helen ! Their food is awesome and our server Ethan was very pleasant. We are so happy we stumbled across this place walking around last night. We decided to try it for lunch today and it did not disappoint .Wish I would’ve taken pictures of our meals! We ate them way too quickly they were so good!

We both had the hammered thin pan fried pork, light crusted & covered with mushroom sauce. I think it was called Yagersnitzel. It was delicious! Our waitress was Daylin, who served us well. She anticipated our needs before we asked. The food came out quickly. It comes with 2 side choices. I had the red cabbage & fries. The cabbage was sweet & sour with raisins - tasty. The fries were nice & crispy. My wife had the sauerkraut & German potato salad. Both were very good. We would definitely come back again.Wheelchair accessibility: There’s no sign but we were directed around to the left side of the building.

We came in on what the server’s were heard describing as a “slow night”, and were sat in the first room/area when you go up the stairs to the second floor, near the bathrooms. We were the only table of guests in this room, however a group of staff members (anywhere from 2-6 at any given time) were sitting and hanging out at two of the tables very close to us — including our own server. During our meal my children, my partner and I listened to the complaints of these servers about how “wealthy the town of Helen was, thanks to tourism, but how they didn’t take enough care to spend money on it’s residents”. We sympathize with the residents of Helen if this is the case, however it wasn’t what we were expecting to listen to during the length of our meal while our server sat down and rolled silverware. The food was great, but the experience was really disappointing. We weren’t told if there was an option to sit anywhere else or offered, and seeing that this was such a highly recommended spot to visit during our trip to Helen — it was the restaurant we were most looking forward to. However, it was the most disappointing meal of our trip.

If you’re looking for authentic German food, look no further! Amazing food…everyone in our party was raving about how good their meal was. We were even visited by Santa himself! Second time visiting this restaurant and it can get busy so recommend getting there early to put your name in…they don’t take reservations. We dined in upstairs hall area.

We visited at 3 pm on a Thursday, and there was a line out the door and down the steps. On a hot summer's day, it was about a zillion degrees in the narrow stairwell. The people in front of us told us that it was first come, first serve, but we saw several large groups of people leave the restaurant without any movement in the line. When the line finally shifted, we stood inside to wait in the A/C and were told, quite rudely, that we needed to "go ahead and go right back outside."In short, this seating system doesn't work. First come, first serve is fine, but perhaps incorporate a text-based waitlist using a tablet sign-in system. That way, the servers aren't stretched even thinner, and people have an idea of wait time. Furthermore, having people crowding a narrow stairwell made it difficult for those leaving the restaurant, especially elderly people who needed to use the handrails that were blocked by people standing in line.Need I mention again that this was at 3pm on a Thursday? I can not imagine how much worse it would be on a weekend.Once we were finally seated, we noticed there were plenty of tables in our area that were open, so it was a bit confusing as to why we had to wait so long in the stairwell. I understand being understaffed, but if there were tables, at least seat us in the A/C and get the drinks and apps started. On the plus side, and maybe because we waited so long and were therefore starving by the time we were seated, we really enjoyed our food and the location of the restaurant - with the patio overlooking the beer garden - was super cute. The restaurant needs to work out the seating system and fix the A/C situation in the dining rooms (it was still very, very hot indoors, but not as hot as the stairwell), but overall the combined food and atmosphere *almost* makes up for this.3.5 stars, rounded up. I'd definitely eat there again, but maybe in the winter.

Someone told us a out this place so we had to go try it out. The pretzel with butter and cheese was probably the best pretzel I've ever eaten. The goulash soup was really good as well, very rich and savory. My wife had the schnitzel sandwich with fries. She said it was average at best. I had the schnitzel with cream cheese and chives. It was also average. I mainly gave the place a 4 star because the carpet needs replacing because it smell musky. Also, the service was very slow. There were 4 tables with people at them and 2 waitress. Not sure why our drinks stayed empty.

Food is ok, but nothing special. Beer is not as good as you wish German beer would be. And strudel tastes like one from the grocery store -frozen food section.Vegetarian options: Not much vegetarian optionsParking: Some parking lots are available around ($10 flat rate), nothing next to the restaurant.Kid-friendliness: ProbablyWheelchair accessibility: No, stairs to enter (have not seen an elevator)

We had a great experience at The Heidelberg! It was very busy, but we were seated promptly. The server gave us some suggestions when asked and took our orders. Because it was busy, the food took a little longer, but our server kept us informed. Our food came out and the portions were large. I asked if they had curry ketchup and the server went and made some for me! Everything was delicious!! Definitely try them when you’re in Helen!
