Terrible customer service and opinionated staff. I arrived at opening time only to be turned away from seeing a dog because they claimed "the kennels were being cleaned." I had even completed an application ahead of time. Only to be told the following day that I was unfit for rescuing a dog for "various" reasons which they were unwilling to disclose. My suggestion to anyone wishing to adopt from this shelter is to lie on your application. If you have an unneutered animal (due to vet suggestion) don't disclose this to the shelter as you'll be denied. Ever fall on hard times and need to rehome your animal due to eviction, health bills, or any other financial reason, you're not "fit" to rescue again. I'm happy not everyone is as judgmental they are or we wouldn't have the 1 dog we have now...who was also a rescue. It is THEIR fault their shelter is full. THEY choose who is worthy of rescuing an animal. I'm glad they are the ones that have to look at those animals everyday. They should feel the guilt. It is a shame they turn away good families willing to rescue.

The young lady who helped us was very sweet, caring and patient. We are absolutely in love with our 2 new fur babies, Royce and Minnie Meows. They are precious and perfect. The animals there were clean and clearly well cared for! 💕

Our family adopted a cat about a month ago. Staff was very helpful and answered all the questions I had about him. A staff member even guessed that he seemed like he would be a couch potato and she was right. He is such a perfect addition to the family. Overall we had a very positive experience with the shelter.

Animals are very well taken care of and staff is friendly. Adoption process is simple and only took maybe 10 minutes. The staff and volunteers care about the animals. Adoption fee was affordable. Great service and would recommend anyone to go here for animal adoption. We adopted a cat. The cat was very clean, fluffy, sweet, and super relaxed.

HARRIS COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY...I'm very disappointed in you!It's somewhat embarrassing to be turned down for an adoption because the dog you chose "isn't the right fit for you", or so I was told by some perky youngster on the phone. By whose standards?What's even more questionable is being told the dog has health issues and requires monitoring, rendering her unadoptable at this time. If this is the case, why haven't the problems been resolved? After all, they have had her in their care since April 2021. And why is she and her curriculum vitae being shown on their website as "adoptable"?Don't embarrass any future adopters by offering an animal that is unavailable or insinuating that it won't be cared for properly. Not nice, people!

We adopted a long time resident yesterday (Zeus) and had an amazing experience. The staff explained the background of each dog, including his/her temperament, suitability, etc. They also had several dogs in the play area, and it was very beneficial to see them interact. We adopted a dog with thunder issues, and they were very transparent about the behaviors he'd exhibit. They provided insight and guidance into proper management to support Zeus during the storms.The adoption process was efficient and professional. I'm so thankful to the humane society for the time and effort they spend with rehabilitating animals and look forward to sharing our life with Zeus.

I adopted a cat from this shelter last year. I did a lot of research about this shelter before visiting them to make sure I don't make a regretful decision and also because I live in a different state. The shelter owners appeared to be cooperative responding to my emails and text at first. They welcomed me at the shelter and introduced me to the cats, and answered all my questions. No problems there. After getting the cat.. comes a different story. I discovered in about 3 days the cat had fleas. Still no problems there as its not difficult to get rid of this issue even though this problem should've been handled at the shelter to avoid getting all the pets there sick if that is a concern at all to the shelter. Later on the cat appeared to have a lot of behavioral issues and FYI my cat is only 3 years old and I tolerate bad behaviors. I contacted the shelter repeatedly to know more about the history of my cat. The shelter did not respond neither to my emails nor texts. I gave up connecting them after. I also remember them charging me $75 when they told me the cat's addoption fee is $40. I guess I could let that slip since I would consider it as a donation but that's still not a rightful act from the shelter. I highly discourage anyone from adopting a pet from this shelter. They will treat you right at first but will ignore you as soon as you leave the shelter with your new pet. Also their shelter is in the middle of nowhere I don't know how and why I trusted them. Their pets seems to be living in the shelter for a long time and they seem to wanna get them adopted in any way possible. I am now in search of a new home for my cat.

If I could give this shelter a zero I would. I had to surrender my dog Riley to them. When I surrendered her I gave them thousands of dollars in donations to help them and to try to make sure she would get a good home. I gave him donations on more than one occasion and checked on her and they assured me she would be adopted. I saw her disappear from their website. When I called they said she had been adopted.When I asked further they said she had been sent to an adopter in new york. I found her on Petfinder and I talk to the shelter in New York that has her. She was simply transported to another shelter because Harris county could not get her placed. Despite my relationship with Harris county in my numerous donations and asking to be advised about her welfare, they sent her thousands of miles away to yet another cage without even talking to me.Not only is whoever runs a shelter not ethical, they are dishonest.

Great facility with an awesome group of staff and volunteer's! All the animals are spayed or neutered, up to date with shots, and microchipped. If you're looking to give an animal a forever home this is the place you want to go!!

everytime we see this shelter at petsmart or petco adoption events they are so kind and inviting. i see them try to greet everyone and ask if they need help looking for a specific furry friend.
