Everyone is super friendly and you can tell they all care about each animal there. I filled out an application online so staff had my information when I arrived. I adopted a Shepard mix, Jasmine, and all the steps went quickly. Brought her home and she relaxed very quickly. Thank you Walker County Shelter for my new companion.

The staff were really nice and the facility was very clean. We came to adopt a cat and the adoption paperwork process was really easy. We were notified the next day that we were accepted to be the new owners of our kitten Felix who was named Tips at the time. He's such a good baby. We will definitely be back in the future for adoptions.

Amazing group of people doing everything they can to love and take care of these animals. They work HARD and tirelessly to find homes for so many animals. We, as a community, are blessed to have them pick up the slack where WE, as a community, have dropped the ball. Spay and neuter your animals!

I adopted two kittens yesterday, one of which I knew was blind in one eye. When she does have that eye open the pupil is a grey color. No big deal, I can handle it. But I went over their paperwork today and found from the photos that whatever happened to her happened while she was there. I get stuff happens fast, but maybe an effort needs to be made to keep certain animals away from genpop. The general area could use more attention and cleaning, but I did get there early (about 30 after opening).I would do 5* if not for the eye, and her being very skittish compared to the other kitten that I brought home that had only been there 2weeks. The staff was friendly, paperwork is on point, already has rabies, spayed, and microchipped. And the price is very reasonable at $25/each for all the legwork behind the process.

After seeing a post of their available dogs, I called to set up an appointment to meet one. I told the front desk girl that I was an hour away and would be coming with my 3 children to meet the dog to see if she was a good fit. After driving all that way, the lady then informed me that I could only pet the dog while being held by staff, and that she was not up to date with her shots. I’m not sure how someone is suppose to see if the animal is a good fit for the family if they can’t touch the ground. I asked when I could come actually meet her and the response was that I could pay a fee to have her vaccinated and then come get her. Why would I pay to have her vetted when I’m not sure if we were going to adopt. The poor dog was also filthy and I asked if she was going to be bathed, and the lady said that they are too short staffed. So the poor puppy has been locked in a crate in filth for over a week. I’m not sure how they expect families to blindly adopt an animal. I would have loved to rescue her but there were too many issues with this shelter. Huge waste of time and gas.

We worked with Krista she was phenomenal ❤️ We adopted Vanessa her name now Bootsee. We had another rescue for 8 1/2 years lost her to cancer. This precious angel stepped up and the first day she won our hearts and made our live MUCH better. Please don’t buy but adopt, so many caring babies waiting for love.

I adopted a cattle dog mix here a few weeks ago. The staff stayed open late just so I could come meet him. They are extremely nice people doing a difficult job. The dog I adopted is a great dog, I couldn't have gotten a better companion anywhere. The $25 adoption fee is a steal considering you get a microchip included with shot records, everything. I recommend adopting here. The animals they have need you!

The staff is rude and talks to people like they're idiots. My daughter adopted a dog yesterday and we get him home and he has worms. No big deal, we take him to get treated. Later in the evening, we notice he had green mucus coming from his nose, not to mention what I think is kennel cough, and his stitches from where he was neutered were oozing. We took him back to the shelter and the woman was rude to my husband and my daughter. The shelter smells awful and the dog was disgusting when we picked him up so we also had to groom him. You're welcome Emily/staff for treating the dog for worms and for the grooming we did.

Very nice, the ladies were busy the day I adopted my kitten, they were nice enough to help me despite the chaos. As I read some of the reviews here I really was amazed at the gal of some people. Keep your dogs up if you don't want them taken and have to pay to get them back. Also, this IS NOT animal control it's an animal shelter that is full to the brim with animals..maybe they can't take another at the time, have some common sense. I think the ladies do a wonderful job considering the fact they are completely overwhelmed. They do a great job with pics and keeping their post up on Facebook. I think the community should rally to help them some. I do feel sorry for the animals, its a really tough ordeal they have to go thru., the staff does what they can.. Best Regards, and p.s. I love my kitten, and best of all, ..he loves me back.thank you so much for Jinx aka Westen

We took 2 little dogs we rescued out of nearly getting run over in the street. The staff at Walker County animal shelter were so kind to us, and these little dogs. Later, we learned the owner had been found-- the dogs had escaped. Happy ending, thank the Lord, and the shelter!

I know Animal shelters are overloaded with strays, but my husband and I did not have a very good experience with them yesterday. We had our 2 dogs at Chickamauga battlefield and when we were leaving, saw 3 tiny kittens in the road. We caught them and put them in my gym bag and took them to Walker County animal shelter. The girl that waited on us was so rude and flat out said she couldn't take these kittens and handed us a sheet of cat rescue sites. I explained here that we had 2 very large dogs in our car and it was hard to transport these kittens. She told us to take them back to the battlefield and put them back out because the momma was probably looking for them .Seriously!! We had just driven through the same place where we found them and it was obvious that they had just been dumped. There is NO way I would have done that AND she wasn't doing anything when we came in and could have been nice enough to at least call some of the cat rescue organizations for us and just help us out! We called Catoosa County and those were the nicest people and gladly took the kittens. They said we did the right thing and taking them back to the battlefield and putting them out was not the right thing to do. So I would like to thank Catoosa County animal shelter for their kindness and compassion. This girl from Walker needs to find another place to work or learn some to offer some help instead of handing you a sheet of paper. If she had been covered up with strays or customers. we we would have understood, but she obviously wasn't doing anything!

For the last month these ladies have worked with me regarding feral cats. These young ladies have been wonderful! When I would call maybe they couldn’t answer my question or whatever the reason they always called me back. The problem I had has been going on for a while but this is absolutely the best results I’ve ever had. These ladies were professional and very helpful. The staff there is wonderful and Iam so thankful. Thanks so much ladies. Janet Pierce

Staff was very friendly. The facility appeared clean and the animals looked to be in good health. We adopted a cat. I love that they spay/neuter and give shots prior to releasing the animal so you don't have to worry about getting it done yourself. Can't wait to pick up our new companion after his neutering appointment this week.

I have adopted several pets now over the past few years. I have visited it more times as well just looking. I don't know anyone by name. I visited once during a free adoption looking for a kitten but the manager had them quarantined. She gave me a card and told me the free adoption stood anytime I came back. The following manager readily recalled the arrangement and referred me to Chattaneuter for a free spay. Our kitten Piper Blue 192 (her "name" was Blue 192 from her blue tag) has had her spay for free. And we thank both for our kitten. We especially thank the "crazy cat lady" who picked out the kitten for me. She thinks she is a dog and Retriever who will bring toys for you to throw. More than any dog I have had in my life and I've had good ones. The facility has always been clean or being cleaned. If the air is an issue to one's nose, you might hold it then because everyone has always been working when I have visited. I have never had anyone be rude. They are now working with rescue groups to help place more animals is my understanding.

I've been to this shelter several times and the animals are well cared for, and the staff is helpful. Alison is very caring and does the best she can for the animals with the limited budget they have to work with. In the past, I've taken in farm animals that they've gotten and everyone at the shelter was extremely helpful with the process of load horses and getting them to their new home. I've also volunteered as a photographer and taken photos of the adoptable pets. I met many dogs and cats doing that and once again there were MANY staff members helping with photos to make sure we got as many as possible. Because their goal is to get as many adopted as possible. You should visit the shelter yourself and bring some donated supplies with you when you go.

Took my daughter to look at Rainier a pup who was found by construction workers in an abandoned house.. The staff was super friendly and very helpful with tips and tricks to use should we decide Rainier is the pup for my daughter due to her circumstances Rainier is very skidish and will require lots of time love and attention to break through her walls.. We also looked at Sarah Jane she is a spunky 4yr old who was dumped by her owners at a lake in Lafayette.. I love you live in the North Georgia area and looking for a pup or kitty friend I would highly recommend checking out your local shelter before going to a breeder you may find your best fur friend at a shelter waiting for you to take them to their furever home..

Great people, thank you for being the voices and caretakers of the voiceless! It's hard helping so many animals with a strict budget I'm sure but it does not go unnoticed. Thank you!!!

My experience here was not a good one. Rita is very rude. Allison and the other guy seemed nice and wanted to help but that is the only nice thing I can say about this shelter. 2 of my dogs were there and when i picked them up they REEKED horribly of animal urine and feces. My 2 dogs both came home with kennel cough as well. They were only there for 3 days (Would have been only 1 day but I was given incorrect information and had to wait until Monday to pick them up). I feel bad for the animals that have to live in that stench and suffer from kennel cough as it is very contagious. My dogs sounded so pitiful with it.

The staff was so professional and caring. The animals were treated with love. The facility was very clean and all the cages were free of feces and had fresh food and water. A+ on the way this new lady is running the shelter.

Idk why you’re not doing more adoption events with your animals. Your shelter is always full. You’re close to Chattanooga with many options . You need to pair up with more rescues and shelters , hold events and educate your community. The stray cats and dogs in Lafayette are ignored and not cared for, It’s heartbreaking. You have resources , you need to get more experienced help for this community . You don’t even have a Twitter or active up to date website , It’s 2020.Please make changes.

Since recent years this shelter has done so much to rescue and re-home animals. These people work so hard and should be thanked daily. They love and care for animals so much. Thank you for your hard work

One of the worst things to experience is a government officer animal control an a detective take a dog from some one have them sign the dog over leading them to believe the dog only going to be taken for the length of hospital stay this is not standard procedure I'm sure when we tried to ask questions we were told the dog was signed over so don't trust a detective tate

Animal control is absolutely useless. The same problem goes on and on and on with a local dog and they won't do anything about it and then they have some Sissy little skinny crybaby answering phones that doesn't one hear anything negative. This county has become a joke and if you want something done with the rogue animal in the neighborhood do-it-yourself because animal control won't do anything about it

Terrible service. Made me feel like I was inconveniencing them for bringing in a newborn stray. Older receptionist at front openly made fun of me multiple times. They acted as if they might not take in the animal and did not want to care for it because it might be sick. New to the area and not a place I would ever want to go back to.

I thought this place was pretty great for a shelter. The staff were very helpful and seem to really care about what they do. It was very clean and I didn't see any dog messes on the floor inside the kennels.
