The only place to go for your pets and pet supplies. A small business with better prices than the big stores and employees who are available and helpful. Ive Been going here for years and have always had a great experience. I've read some negative comments about rude employees, but that hasn't been my experience. They have always been helpful and Carrol has went out of her way to help me find something I needed many times. Also, every pet owner should have knowledge of their pets needs, before making a decision, do a little research to make sure it's the right one for you and your pet. Nobody can be an expert on everything. The employees there can guide you, but it's up to you to make the final decision on what's right for your pet and circumstance. They have guided me in the right direction many times. Will always go here over the big stores.

I love the fish here they've got some real cool odd balls, but the way they treat their birds breaks my heart. The seed diet they give them causes fatty liver disease, the straight perches have no variety and can cause bumble foot and arthritis, even the happy huts/fluffy fabric can cause hormonal aggression, and if chewed on intestinal blockage. Worst of all the last time I went in they had a candle lit and the employee I spoke to refused to put out. Any kind of smoke can be fatal to birds, "pet safe" applies to dogs, and cats, never birds. Please fix this, they deserve better.

The workers here don’t know what they are talking about. I had an African clawed frog for 2.5 years healthy and fed live fish every now and then. Only minnows but after my last trip a worker had specifically recommended rosy red as a feeder fish. After giving them to my frog he had passed away suddenly. After research rosy red and goldfish ( both which are fish they offer as feeder) are never recommended for feeder fish for frogs.They have a serrated spine and enzymes the frog cannot process. When I called to make a worker aware he stated that “it’s not the workers fault because it’s a fish they offer” it almost felt like he was trying to gaslight me on the reason I KNOW my frog died. which was a fault of the worker who recommended them after I told them the type of frog that I had. Go somewhere else because I’m never shopping at this pet store again. They have in the past sold me sick aquatic animals that have died and took no responsibility. The staff is not knowledgeable DONT believe anything they tell you.

Such a fantastic shop. Extensive selection for fish and reptile accessories, setups and live pets. Birds, small animals and their feed products are everywhere too! Prices can't be beat. The staff are so helpful and nice. Clean and organized - you can really tell that care goes into not just what products they choose to carry on the shelves but also what they use in their own aquatic setups in place - they wouldn't sell you what they wouldn't use and that's something I can get behind.**December 2021 Update: I've seen other reviews about rudeness from the staff, curt attitudes from Carol and misinformation regarding pet care and instructions. While each scenario is different, my own experiences at Carol's have been different. Maybe 1 staff member came across as curt to me once but I chalked it up to their youth. Another 4, including Carol, have taken time out on numerous occasions to help me with products, tank crises I was having on a few occasions and if they did not know an answer, they said as much. Its up to pet owners to know their pets, not the shop selling it to instruct them or hand hold us in taking care of our animals, so while I know not all elements are within everyone's control, I can speak to my experiences with my purchases of products and livestock that Carol's Critters helped me whenever called upon.

Compare to the chain pet stores, this place has a much better variety of pets, the price is reasonable, and the staff seems more knowledgeable and helpful. Walking around the place was a great experience.My pet parakeet and hand raised cockatiel are healthy and loving.

I love this place. They have the best selection as far as reptiles go. The staff is always super helpful and I get asked at least 2-3 times while I’m in there if I “need any help or have any questions.” I always try to shop local when I can, and have never been disappointed by them. I purchased two turtles and multiple fish from here, they’re all doing good and perfectly healthy.I live on the north side of Tallahassee and will continue to drive (20-30 mins) across town just to shop here.

We have been frequently going into Carol's Critters since moving to Tallahassee in May. They have such a unique selection of aquatic and reptile pets to look at and purchase. We have now purchased multiple fish and a hedgehog from Carol's! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and we will continue to come here solely for their expertise.I highly recommend Carol's Critters.

I really like this place! It's very clean & the staff has been very friendly every single visit... The prices are great and there is a wide variety of items. I went to get stuff for my cat and there were tons of toys as well as some other cool stuff. My go to place from now on

Great experience here. Good customer service. I got my cockateil here, and they are SO sweet. You can tell they were well attended to. Very happy customer. I went to 4 different pet stores before coming here. None of them were as good as this place. Pic is day one of my baby coming home and settling in.

Everybody was friendly and knowledgeable about all of carol's critters. Fair on pricing. We bought a ferret and they wanted to see the housing for her to make sure she went to a good home and thats nice to know they care about the animals. Overall was a good trip and we got a new member to our family thanks to carol's critters

You can tell Carol takes great care of the animals in her store. All of her employees are extremely helpful and friendly. I have purchased dog food, rabbit food, insects and snake feeders with no issues.

Everyone was extremely helpful especially Andy and Carol as I planned for Mr Moto's 9th birthday as a green water dragon. I was able to find everything that I wanted and even more plans for next time. Everyone is very friendly and everything is placed very nicely in the store. Two thumbs way up!!!

Lovely local pet store. Has a wide range of animals that seem in good condition. Staff is friendly and helpful. I have a young Ball Python and get my fuzzies there. They helped me by giving me a good size range to see if he could move up a size since he is only 5 months old.Seems to have a good range of fish as well. And all sorts of pet supplies.My only problem is that it makes me want more critters and while I do have a farm.. my budget doesn't agree with it!(Picture is not from Carol's. Nor is my BP! But the cage and some supplies are.)

Usually it is a pleasant experience to visit this pet store, but every time Carol is working (That one can assume is the owner), it’s anything but pleasant. As the owner, one would expect Carol to be helpful, and compassionate towards her customers, but she is anything but that. Carol and some of her employees are very rude. They seem to have no care for their customers and animals. Which is a shame considering the prices that the animals are set at. Also, they DO NOT honor their promises that they make to their customers at all. It sure is a shame. Anyone looking to purchase anything from this store needs to ask for a receipt, or you will be laughed at and dismissed. Better off just going somewhere else to purchase an animal. Do better Carol.

Very Saddened to have to leave a negative review. I looked this location up as I had seen very good reviews on this location. Purchased 8 guppies upon getting home and acclimating them in the new tank 3 of the fish died within two hours. Less than a week later the remaining fish died. I was excited about this location as an extreme hobbiest new to the Tallahassee area I was excited on a location I could purchase in person rather than having to order online, guess it wasn’t to be.

Carol is a very nice woman but the people she hires can be very rude and unprofessional. I was in here not too long ago with my wife when I began speaking to the young light skin man at the register about the gooty sapphire tarantula for sale and he did not want to answer any of my questions regarding the spider and became very rude to the point where he just stopped responding to me and completely shut me out despite me having several items that needed to be rung up. I don’t know if it was because he thought I couldn’t afford the spider or if he was just having a bad day but his behavior was completely uncalled for and since then I have not been back despite this being one of the only reptile stores in Tallahassee. This also isn’t the first time someone was rude to us, my wife asked a question regarding a parakeet (keep in mind we are both in school for animal science and own several exotic pets of our own as well as worked at several exotic reptile stores in other cities) and the young lady proceeded to talk to us both like we were stupid and got more upset as we asked more questions on availability of certain items. It got the point she started talking about us to another coworker while we were still shopping in the store.. like I said carol is great but the college kids she hires are rude and unprofessional and do not want to work. I attempted to get a job here when I first moved to Tallahassee and assumed I’d be a great candidate considering my passion for animals and prior experience but I was denied the job, I guess only unprofessional college kids who don’t care about their job are the only people who get hired and people who actually want to work and spend time with animals get pushed to the back.

They had a lot of great items, like a really big bird cage, fish, aquariums, supplies. This was my first visit and enjoyed walking around the store to look at all the animals, especially "Frank." I bought a tennis ball that squeaks for my fur baby. The staff was so pleasant and helpful. I would definitely keep this place in mind for my pet care needs.

I have a reptile that requires 150 watt basking bulbs. This is the only pet store for hours that stocks high wattage bulbs consistently. The employees tend to be knowledgeable about reptiles and are always willing to look in the back if I need something particular.

I normally shop for fish for my tanks at Petco and PetSmart but after the last few experiences with getting fish that got sick, I decided to give Carol’s a try. I had probably three staff ask me if I needed anything and Carol herself helped me pick out my fish and helped me with a question on an air stone. The prices were affordable and my fish are happy in their new tank. I will certainly be back. Support local.

Carol and her crew are the best pet shop I've ever been to. They aren't the biggest, but they make sure you're taken care of like no where else. I got my snake, full aquarium, and all the pet food for my service dog and cat from here and have been a customer for over 8 years. They go above and beyond. Thank you for all the help with everything.

Tldr: Overall a pretty good shop, but doesnt treat rodents well AT ALL. Idk about bird care so I cant speak on that.Treats their fish and reptiles spectacularly, but the rodents are treated badly. Especially the pet mice and rats. They are not given a proper wheel, nutrition, or hides. They also pick them up by their tails, which can cause permanent spinal damage, paralysis, and extreme pain. :/ The male mice, gerbils, and hamsters are also housed together, which is something that should never be done. They will fight unlike rats and cause injury to one another.They sell some really good products for rodents like cute hidey holes, good nutritious treats, and oxbow food. Plus they sell some very pretty colors of mice and rats! However, they still sell crittertrails and hamster balls even those are both horrible for any kind of rodent. I don't think they should sell them, so they don't promote improper pet care.Found this surprising since they treat the reptiles so well and the employees are so kind and knowledgeable generally! Lovely people and generally a good experience. Sadly one of the better shops out there for rodents since they are treated so poorly here in the USA.
