I personally didn’t go here due to the interaction I had with them, I felt the conversations were rushed & rude. I got a call back over an hour later, twice asking for a $500 deposit before even seeing my bearded dragon. I didn’t even bother calling back & went to another exotic vet for 2x less than what they were asking even before any treatment. I will not recommend them to anyone. I don’t normally leave bad reviews, I’m a good genuine person looking out for others.

BEST EXOTIC CLINIC IN FLORIDA!!!! Dr. April is a miracle surgeon!!! I am so grateful to have met the most dedicated and knowledgeable vet in Florida, Dr. April Romagnano saved my little hedgehog’s leg from a terrible infection, while amputation was an option Dr. April took all her expertise and efforts to operate on her and save her leg, she is innovative and extremely caring, she treats your pets like they’re her babies. Despite being so busy saving multiple pets from zoo animals to colorful birds, she makes sure to text you updates of her findings and care progress, her and her staff stayed super late to operate on my hedgehog and in the middle of night she called to make sure we did shared decision making, answering all our questions with detail and compassion and making sure we agreed with the surgery. While in the waiting area, I admired the abundance of degrees and certificates on her wall it reassured me that my pet was in excellent hands, it said that she also gives Lectures at UF vet school, she truly went above and beyond calling to check on my pet once we took her home and sharing more test results, I am so so grateful to her, do not hesitate to bring your exotic ANY animal, since she related to us that she has even treated Spiders!!!! She is truly amazing and super dedicated to animals lives, check the smile on my hedgehog after her surgery :) , we will definitely bring our pet tortoise if a problem with him arises too.

I have read a few reviews that sound like what I experienced. Let me say I’m sure Dr April is very knowledgeable and well practiced. I didn’t get that far. I called on a Saturday afternoon about our sugar glider. She told me that it would be $500 down payment and they would keep her at least 3 days. We never even told her what’s wrong. It’s just plain extortion. I feel that generating funds was more important than anything as there was nothing to indicate how long our pet should be there. It was very sketchy and no bedside manor at all.

2 stars, this lady didn’t seem to have any empathy for my pets just seemed money hungry, in 2018 I brought my cockatiel to dr April because he was limp , she took him over night and charged us for a bunch of unnecessary test, then the next day we got called saying that he passed 2 hours ago, then I bring my rabbit here for what seemed like pink eye she started talking about a bunch of other tests for issues non concerning our issue , after we spend $500-$800 for things that didn’t help his eye we ended up treating it at home and a bit ago I called about my bunny having a bloat in his stomach asking what we should do and she had no empathy , being rude to me on the phone and saying if we don’t pay the $500 deposit for the ER my rabbit will die , I begged her if theirs anything else I could do and she told me no and that if I want him to live I have to hurry because her team will leave soon and once their gone theirs no more helping him . Me and my mother ended up helping our rabbits bloat at home and he’s perfectly healthy today. I say only come here as an emergency but if u Can try and treat ur bunnys issue at home please do it

Such an amazing veterinarian and staff. Ive been take my ferrets and Guinea pigs to her for several years now. I do have to drive an hour but it’s totally worth it. She is always very thorough and leaves no stone unturned. My 3 year old ferret Rita suffers from both adrenal disease and insulinoma. Dr. April often checks in to see how she is doing. You can tell that she has a strong love and desire to help her patients. Would recommend!

Took my 37 year old female red lored amazon to Dr April for a complete check up and was very impressed with all the tests she did and the friendliness from her and her staff. Dr April included me in every step of the tests and explained what she was doing and also reviewed the x-ray with me. Also it was important for me to have my little girl sleeping while she performed the test and she did. I am so impressed with all the time she took to explain everything she did and why! My parrot is my baby and want the best for her and I now know that Dr April will keep her healthy! Thanks Dr April 👍❤️

Do not bring your exotics here if you can help it! Dr. April was brought a rabbit exhibiting typical symptoms of GI stasis. She was told his story of how he came from a terrible hoarding situation in hopes that she would take mercy on how much the bill was about to cost. She focused more on the diseases he might have instead of trying to make him better. Her bedside manner was absolutely terrible and insensitive. She would call and say that she just needed to have some tests ran or that she needed to look in his mouth and it would take her over 24 hours and several calls to the vet for her to respond. When she did respond she was too busy to speak on a common persons level. On the second to last call, she decided that she thought the rabbit had rabies (very unlikely for rabbits) and that he would need to be DECAPITATED AND TESTED. He passed on his own after 4+ days in the hospital. Oh and she made it known that she was calling from a store she was shopping at and that he had been dead for almost half an hour.

Do not ever go to Dr. April! I brought my young rabbit in there for an emergency appointment because he had a broken leg. Her husband took x-rays and advised me that he would need surgery to place pins in his arm. Dr. April told me that her husband would perform surgery with her guiding him via telephone. I didn’t know any better at the time being that this is the first animal emergency I have ever had And I was in complete shock and disarray. For some reason, it wasn’t until after my rabbit had passed away during surgery that Dr. April decided to mention that his arm was broken in more places than pins can fix, even though the x-ray would have shown this information. After consulting with multiple well known vets that specialize in rabbits after the fact, I have learned that Dr. April has the worst reputation in the area, especially for rabbits. They informed me that with this severity of break, the rabbits leg should have been amputated and I would still have my little rabbit here with me today. I am beyond heartbroken. I would also like to add that Dr. April‘s husband‘s front desk staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. Stay away!

Professional, compassionate response by Staff and Vet to my Rat’s condition. She had 2 tumors one of which grew rapidly and was in a delicate area! Was straightforward about the complications but had the confidence and obviously the ability to give my Rat some extra time with her cage mate and my husband and I.Will continue with this practice with my Rats.

I am posting this because I did not listen to the bad reviews and got absolutely ripped off. Listen to them! Very unprofessional and ineffective--does not use chart notes and instead screams her observations across the office to her staff. Literally screams. Also intentionally racks up bills for services she did not complete or charges for ridiculous things. I was charged twenty dollars for her feeding my hedgehog--not to mention it was $350.00 up front for an "after hours office visit" when bringing my hedgehog in for an emergency and she was not even there. In the end, I was going to be charged almost $800.00 for my hedgehog's overnight stay and treatment. She engaged in a lot of treatment that I asked her not to complete without my permission--I'm a college student on a very tight budget, which I communicated to her--which ended up being completely ineffective. She also never gave back results for exams that cost something like a hundred dollars in total which she sent out to another clinic. She offered me a twenty percent student discount, but she violated the terms of our contract (must make reasonable attempts to notify client before engaging in undisclosed treatment) and refused to give me my hedgehog unless I paid. In the end, I went to another vet, and they told me that at one point someone had to call the police on her to get their Flemish rabbit back. Yikes.

Dr. April and her staff have saved my Netherland dwarf bunny George two times....This last time my George could not move his front or hind quarters. George stayed there two days then I brought him home and he began to get his strength back...I am very thankful to Dr. April and her dedicated staff,....Elliot was right there at George’s time of need and I knew he was in good hands. Yes, I did spend money, but my George is worth every cent. ....I give two thumb’s up Dr. April and staff.

Dr April saved my lovebird. On a Friday morning my lovebird, Kiwi , was lethargic, not eating, and irritable. I immediately called Dr. April’s office and took Kiwi to the office in the afternoon. Dr. April examined Kiwi and began treatment. Four days later Kiwi was ready to return home. Two weeks after her return she is the energetic, playful and happy bird that I have always known. But for Dr. April’s professional emergency intervention and treatment I am not sure Kiwi would be well. Thank you Dr. April and thank you Lisa for taking great care of Kiwi and bringing her back to health.

ZERO stars. That's my rating for this clinic and specifically, the Vet. Dedicated vet? Not in my book. It's all about the fees and excessive fees they were.[We were blessed with a dedicated Vet in Naples, FL. He knew his stuff and was not about excessive testing...The man truly cared. He was respectful not only to the pet owner and loved the animals in his care]. This Avian Clinic seems to have a "magic" billing amount of $650--minimum. A $350 charge before you step foot in the office. Expect more boarding and tests that up that amount. This vet has an immense ego. She has a "know-it-all" attitude, will not let you get a word in edgewise and speaks in a very condescending manner. Professionalism is not part of her being. She has zero sensitivity to the pet owner and especially for THE PET...the little animal who is in her care... Care? What care? NONE.Since the experience, I have been told from other pet owners who experienced identical experiences with this vet. They, too, regretfully trusted this vet and clinic. She treated (?) my pet (sweet bird). She did extensive testing without my permission. She was going to do a autopsy and never asked for permission. I had to nearly threaten that an autopsy was NOT to be performed. Some test results would not be received for 7 days. Yet, at this early stage, Dr. ***** was insistent that she knew the exact cause of the illness which took the life of my bird in less than 24 hours. Again ,without any test results, she adamantly insisted that environmental conditions (in my home and which exist in likely 99% of all American homes) caused the death. She berated us for not knowing that the Teflon coating in ovens, toaster ovens, regular toasters, non-stick skillets, etc, caused the death and she was sure of it. According to her, the gases produced when these appliances are used with high heat are dangerous.. My research says that the heat must be 650 deg for this condition to take place. 650 deg! Who doesn't have at least one of these appliances in their kitchens? The bird was having some breathing difficulty. My bird was put under oxygen and she upped it, 3 times if not more. Whatever else she did, I don't have any idea. She said she couldn't do a blood test, [specifically, her words were, "she couldn't 'bleed' him in his condition"]-- and at this point, I will say that the bird was eating, drinking and doing the playful things he always does, even on the drive to this clinic. She couldn't "bleed the bird"??? What kind of wording is that to use with a pet owner. I should have listened to my gut feeling and took him home. It is my opinion as the owner of this bird for many years that he was traumatized and was "over-treated" which I feel greatly contributed to death. He was brought in for medical attention and the following morning, we received a call the next morning after their 10:30 am opening (!) that he didn't make it.What is she good for? Screaming and droning on and on about "her knowledge of the problem with the little bird" and obviously boosting the bill.[My gut feelings told me that I should have gone to another Vet even if I had to drive another 30 miles) In my opinion, this vet/clinic, which is the ONLY vet for miles around and the only one in 3 counties, has a unique benefit. There are no other choices. She's it. If your beloved pet is a valuable member of your family, please, I urge you to seek medical help elsewhere. Only my opinion. I will regret always using her. If the bird was going to die, I would have preferred that it had happened in my home... not in the hands of this person. Do what you will, but I would never again use this clinic.

She was terrible to deal with when my rabbit had to go under for surgery.I had an appointment and waited for about an hour before they told me she couldn't see me and to leave my rabbit with them overnight. The next day no one called and when I called, no one could tell me what was going on. No updates at all what so ever. I called a number of times throughout the day and ended up showing up at the vet after I got off work. When the young interns (high schoolers?) couldn't tell me where my rabbit was, I called my regular vet who called Dr. April and Dr. April proceeded to call me and yell at me on the phone saying that she had my rabbit on the table right now and by me calling constantly I'm distracting her and she can make a mistake. If someone had let me know that my rabbit was in surgery, I wouldn't have had to call my vet in the first place.

Brought my bearded dragon in and sat there for an hour not being told anything about what was going on or if I was able to leave or anything. No one was at the desk we had to look for them to ask what was going on. I've never been to this vets office before but this was a very bad first impression to say the least. Communication is key and I felt completely lost here. The fact that I even had to ask why I was still sitting there is pretty ridiculous. I never saw a vet, my dragon was taken minutes into me being there and tests were being run before I even stated what was wrong with her and consented to treatment at all. Then I got a bill that said $193 but I was charged $350 but where did that number come from? This experience is leaving a bad feeling in my stomach. After all the good reviews and recommendations I received about this place I'm wondering why I had such a bad experience here.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR BIRDS ANY GATORADE! NO MATTER WHAT!My boyfriend and I made one of the biggest mistakes by giving our caique some Gatorade, he went into toxic shock and almost died.Dr. April and her team were fast acting and took great care of our bird. Yes, it adds up fast but I would not have a bird right now if it wasn't for these people. Thank you again! Lemmy is whistling and hopping around like a clown!

Awful experienceTook my little Guinea pig for URI, she seemed like being on drugs,in and out of operatory room , waited 3 plus hours after scheduled appointment, purely out of desperation for my pet, seemed like she was literally ripping me off financiallyAfter spending 4.5 hours at this place and spending nearly $350 she didn’t accomplish anythingThey mixed a formula of antibiotics that nearly killed my little girl to startShe kept piling up on list of things to purchase from her shopThings that we really didn’t needAwful awful experienceBe very careful with this providerWhat a disappointment it wasThis was nearly 5 years ago and I still rememberOMG

Dr. April truly does love her patientsShe did save my baby and for that I am 100% pleased that I met her however after the first time I took my bird there it was endless visits and endless money from an empty pocket......At first I liked her staff but after a while you couldn't get an answer from them and everything was done so slowly including waiting to check outI feel like this if you get a bad feeling about the receptionist area it doesn't make you want to go furtherWell How many times was I going to have to diagnosed my poor birdI could not afford the high prices any longer so I needed a second opinion. She is now on a pellet diet and of course fresh veggies etc etc .She's no longer on any medications she doesn't need to go in oxygen tanks she doesn't need blood tests or x-rays and no more nutriberries.. Too much sugarNow she's doing fantasticThe good thing about Dr April is she does take her time and that's a good thing and I do believe she cares for her patients but I was just spending too much money running back and forth unnecessarily
