Dr April has been treating my two ferrets for about six months. We only met when I reached out to her office on a Friday night at 8 o'clock in a panic because my ferret collapsed while I was holding him. I was not currently a patient of hers, but I knew that she specializes in exotic animals and that my regular vet was closed. The office gave me her private cell phone number and she answered. When I explained to her the symptoms, she immediately was able to diagnose him with insulinoma over the phone and had me bring him in immediately. She stayed with us there until midnight running all the tests and creating plan of care including a medicinal regiment of which she created in-house so that I could take the prescriptions home and immediately begin treatment. She took the time to explain every facet of the disease and her reasoning behind his plan of care and answering all of my questions even as we're at her car at midnight. And he is doing great! Then my other ferret began being so howing signs of respiratory distress and Dr. April took the time to rule out multiple possible causes before diagnosing her with a rare case of heart worms, which have a high mortality rate and for which there is no approved treatment. Dr April was willing to collaborate with other experts in the field and created an experimental treatment plan. We are four months into a six month treatment and my little girl is doing ok. I am grateful for Dr April for going above and beyond and taking the time and research and think outside the box to try and save my ferret and for being available to respond to my texts at any time. And throughout my visits, I've seen her take care of all kinds of exotic animals and be in emergency surgery as late as midnight. It's clear that helping animals is her life, not just her job, and I would recommend her to anyone❤️

I brought my angora rabbit in with a decreased appetite and he ended up having severe overgrown teeth. We are so thankful for Dr April and her staff keeping us updated throughout the surgery and for taking great care of him overnight. Even after he came home Dr April and the amazing staff called to check up on him and answer any additional questions we had about medicine and aftercare. Truly thankful too all at Avian & Exotic Clinic of Palm City.

My Meyers parrot got stuck in his 'happy hut'. Don't know how long he struggled to free himself. We finally got him free and thought he had passed. He was in horrible shape. Rushed him to the clinic where they were waiting as I had spoken to Dr April. He was extremely critical and we were devastated. Fast forward 3 days and Stinky is home recovering. His treatment was excellent and we were able to visit every day he was there. Can't say enough about the treatment he received from Dr April and her staff. We are eternally grateful.

Dr April went above and beyond to nurse for six year olds, squirrel back to health.She found what others could not using our experience and keen to find an abscess.Communication through this worrisome process was amazing, still amazed.I would highly recommend her to anyone, especially those with exotic pets, rodents, rabbits, birds, etc. you name it she knows her stuff!!!and everyone who came to the door with their animals that has dealt with her before also raved about her!!!We drove the two hours after talking on the phone with her we were that confident our girl would get the best care and that she did.The staff were also nice and helpful.We want to give them a shout out for their help.The location is close and convenient from I-95 so that was a plus in our travels from Brevard county.I don’t normally write reviews, but this experience is definitely worth sharing for those that want the best care for theirThanks for readingSincerelyHappy squirrel and her mom and dad❣️

I am extremely grateful and relieved to share my great experience with this exotic clinic, living in Melbourne it was almost impossible to find good care for my little hedgehog when she suffered an infection in one of her legs, my VCA vet highly recommended Dr. April Romagnano for special care and we were desperate to find help. From the moment we called the clinic the vet tech Nico listened attentively to the issue and contacted Dr. April right away, when we arrived Dr. April was on an emergency zoo call and her staff was working on some farm animals so it was expected to wait a little while which we were okay with since my hedgehog was stable, the murals in the waiting area are beautiful, it amazed me to see how many degrees she holds and that she gives lectures at UF veterinary school. Dr. April stayed after hours, did surgery in the middle of the night and called us to tell us all her findings and answer every single one of our questions making sure we were comfortable with the course of care, she put all her efforts in saving the leg rather than amputating. The deposit and other costs were definitely fair, owning an exotic animal comes with a lot of responsibility and we expected it would be more expensive than owning a dog or cat, reading the comments I think more people should understand that, the quality of care was definitely worth every penny and every mile to get there. She even called to check on my pet once she was home for post-op care, the dedication and kindness she provided to us is unmatched, she is extremely brilliant. Don’t hesitate to bring any animal to Dr. April her team puts all their heart and knowledge in action to care for your pet!!! :)

Dr. April saved our Indian Runner Duck. Our duck is family to us, so when she wasn't doing well - for months - we'd tried everything from a change in her diet to calcium supplements and probiotics - we were so thankful to have come across Dr. April, who is over 3hrs away from us. Before finding her, we'd joined an online forum for chicken and duck owners; we took our duck to two separate avian specialists 1hr away, each who ran xrays revealing a massive egg in in our duck's abdomen and each of which gave us a very grim outcome: she wouldn't survive and there wasnt much we could do. We then called vets all across Florida - none who could help us or had any experience with ducks... until we found Dr. April (thankfully!!!). She immediately knew what was wrong and had the confidence and skill to help our duck get through it. The egg had been in our duck for 5 months without our knowledge, but Dr. April put us at ease, and after we'd dropped our duck off at the clinic, Dr. April kept her comfortable during her multi-day stay and ultimately performed surgery to remove not only the one massive egg but over 60 additional smaller egg particles from eggs that hadn't fully formed. With such a risky surgery, we weren't surprised when we found out that our duck tried to pass twice on the operating table, but Dr. April was able to revive her. What was surprising - and very very much appreciated - was that Dr. April updated us EVERY DAY including having her staff record photos and video during surgery. Additionally, since our duck has returned home, she's stayed in touch with us daily to ensure our duck was progressing (and she is! She's gaining weight and nearly back to her old self!). We are STILL impressed with the level of service and dedication our duck received at Dr. April's clinic. We can't tell you how many times we were told "she's just a duck..." by so many other people. But Dr. April and her staff treated her with the care and respect any life deserves. We may live over 3 hours away, but Dr. April has gained life-long customers. We highly recommend her and her staff, and if she or her staff is reading this, THANK YOU again for saving our Keisha.

I am so pleased with the care my baby Quaker parrot is receiving from Dr. April and staff at Avian & Exotic Clinic of Palm City. Everyone is professional and efficient. It’s obvious they love helping animals. My bird is on the road to recovery and doing much better. So thankful to have a caring avian veterinarian clinic locally.

Outstanding !!!!!We have a 50+ year old parrot Lorra and we noticed she developed a nasty growth under her wing . We called the clinic and they said to bring her in right away. Dr April examined her thoroughly and determined it was necessary to operate and remove the carcinoma. We could not ask for a more caring group of people. Thank you Dr. April , Lisa and Hailey for all you give. Highly recommended !!!!!!!

My snake Medusa was bit by a rat and slowly her health declined. Dr April gave Medusa liquids, antibiotics, oxygen therapy, wound devridement and so much more. Medusa is back to her perky self which brings happy tears to my eyes because I was thinking she might have to be euthanized.Dr April is very informative and knowledgeable as well as her staff. Thank you Avian & Exotic for being Medusa’s hero and mine too!

It was the worst vet I have ever met in my life. Aimed only at extorting as much money as possible. He is not interested in helping animals. She killed my pet, but the worst thing is that the animal suffered all weekend and died on Monday morning. She did not propose treatment or euthanasia so that the animal would not suffer. I was only interested in money. I can not come to terms with the fact that such people exist in the world. Stay away from her.

We brought our guinea pig, Buttercup, to see Dr. April. Buttercup unfortunately had an eye injury. Dr April was extremely knowledgeable about the issue we had with Buttercup. We were sent home with several prescriptions… eyedrops, pain medication, eye cream, probiotic, vitamin C & antibiotic, although it seemed, at the time, a lot to handle it was all explained & written out clearly. Above & beyond the call of duty!! Dr. April really cares about your pet and her level of experience is unparalleled. If there is a chance to save your pet, she will find it. I have rabbits (Sergeant Swag shown here) and she is available 24/7 if necessary. My buns love her and Lisa and all the staff at the clinic are awesome! After looking for an avian vet for my birdie, oliver because they were badly injured, I called Dr. April off her emergency number. I told her everything and she told me immediately to come in. They didn't ask me for money up front I gave it to them. EVERY dime I had.. She set it up so I could pay it off every two weeks. My pet is my daughter. I do anything for her. Dr. April and her assistant Lisa are the best! Dr. April has cared for my pet chickens for over 10 years. Before I knew about Dr. April, I had been to several other vets that said they treated chickens, but no one even came close to her as far as knowledge, experience and the care she gives. I believe she falls in love with each animal she treats. She is so dedicated to helping our exotic pets that she is constantly working, but provides her cell number and usually responds quickly to texts. While she is not inexpensive, you will know that you’ve given your pet the best possible care.

I personally didn’t go here due to the interaction I had with them, I felt the conversations were rushed & rude. I got a call back over an hour later, twice asking for a $500 deposit before even seeing my bearded dragon. I didn’t even bother calling back & went to another exotic vet for 2x less than what they were asking even before any treatment. I will not recommend them to anyone. I don’t normally leave bad reviews, I’m a good genuine person looking out for others.

As a veterinary technician of over 10 years I have referred dozens of clients to Dr. April and heard countless success stories from her amazing work. However, until last week I had never had the unfortunate privilege to meet her for one of my own. They got my bearded dragon in late at night as an emergency, and took excellent care of her. They were thorough in their explanations and compassionate about my Bruni. My sweet girl got the best care there and is now happily back at home. I cannot recommend Dr. April and her staff enough. Seriously, the best exotic veterinarian around.

I would give this place negative stars if I could, and I’m not even the type to leave reviews at all. Palm City Avian & Exotic has been nothing but an absolute headache since the moment I walked in their door. They will run tests without consent or reviewing it with you, and then ask you to pay for them without any communication from the doctor who felt the testing was necessary in the first place. They trimmed my parrots wings without consent when she was in the ER. It took over 10 hours to hear any kind of update at all from the doctor when she was admitted into the ER, and even then, I had to contact them. I gave them another chance when I dropped her off for boarding and made sure to communicate that if any testing needed to be done, to please call me first. I picked her back up on Monday with another $500 vet bill, a new test, and a new treatment given for my parrot that was not necessary nor explained to me in any way shape or form. Every visit (4, one attempted where I waited for an hour and a half and had to leave for another appt) we ever had with Dr. April I ended up waiting for over an hour. I have been trying to get my birds medical records from them for over a month and get the same exact response every time I try, "the doctor has to review them." What kind of records take over a month to review? It genuinely makes me question which tests were actually ran, or was I just charged for things that the vet said was done? $1500+ in vet bills to you guys and you can't even give me documentation of what was completed and her results? Avoid them, at all costs. Truly the worst experience I have EVER had with a vet.

While she maybe quite knowledgeable, Dr April is one vet I would stay far away from. I am a medical professional and I have had birds most of my life. I took my bird in for a beak trim and it was the most upsetting vet experience I have ever had, especially for my bird. I was told he’d need an exam prior to his beak trim since he was new to the practice. No problem, happens every time. What they did NOT tell me was the exam included blood work, shots and a chlamydia test to the tune of over $600. I got out of there without the bloodwork. They pulled more blood from my 500 gram bird than I would have for a 2 year old human. Then he was given calcium injections “because he’s a gray.” Her demeanor is frenetic, she is constantly yelling at her staff and does not listen to a word you say as an owner. Rule one of avian care is to not stress out a bird. When she was done with all her antics, she put him in the oxygen cage to help him recover….my normally chatty bird has not made the first sound since yesterday. She also tried to compare human medical terminology with avian conditions and was so far off the mark as to be laughable. I am sure she bedazzles many clients with her academic knowledge but she has absolutely no common sense. Stay away .

Update 4/2024: Dr April has literally saved my hybrid conure's life on more than one occasion, despite terrible odds. She prioritizes the bird's health and comfort over all else. My trust in her judgment and experience has only increased over the years I've come to her.9/2020 - Extremely attentive to detail and thorough in diagnosing and treating my hybrid conure after my other conure passed away suddenly. Dr. April has brought me great comfort and care in making sure our remaining bird has the best care possible. My only complaint is the appointments take a LONG time, so pack some snacks and clear your schedule. But in return, you'll get great service that doesn't cut corners.

Dr.April answered my emergency call late on Saturday and responded to my 11 year old pot belly pig who had gotten his hoof stuck an Broke it off at the Cornett band ! The staff an her came to my house and treated the foot an provided me with medication and bandages but most of all the education on how to make his recovery go the best it possibly could. The team was knowledgeable and compassionate, and they went above and beyond to make sure my pet was comfortable and well cared for. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone in need of specialized care for their exotic pets.

Awful experience, this vet is off the wall and is so overpriced for unnecessary treatments . I just read a review on Yelp that is pretty much the exact same as the experience that I had with this vet, also reviews with the same exact parts of the experience here. The worst experience I have EVER had with a veterinarian. I wish I had never brought my step daughters animal to this place as I feel so completely ripped off, confused and disgusted. I also feel the animal was put through more than any normal, logical vet would put an animal in this state through, and it wouldn’t stop, she wanted to keep going. She performs additional services without a quote without permission and does not disclose the costs! What kind of business operates that way? I am in business and that is terrible business practice. I have had many animals, I have had many vet bills and experiences and I know they are costly however I have never felt so taken advantage of in all of my years. I do not even feel that this animal will live for another week, she is in bad shape and this vet wanted to run every test and give every medication known to man when I just wanted the animal to be comfortable and possibly put to sleep humanely. I so wish I would have checked the reviews prior to taking our animal here. By the way I have never left a bad review for a business in my entire life, I don’t believe in doing that, however I could not possibly not leave a review after this experience. What a terrible experience, I literally feel sick after it all. This woman is a nightmare a true nightmare. She may have knowledge in some areas however she is not mentally stable.Follow up: the animal did die a little over a week later alone in her crate, would have been nice to put her out of her misery instead of the wild treatments and cruel testing as she was not in any shape for that, downright cruel and long after this still bothers me as you can see.

Don't go anywhere else if you have an exotic, even if it means driving 2 hours. Dr. April is a superb professional with an amazing educational background, holding both a Ph. D. and DVM from leading universities. It is obvious from spending a lot of time in her clinic with my daughter's injured bunny that this veterinary practice is devoted to love and care of the animals. Staff is excellent, and Dr. April is generous with her time, including mentoring many young people interested in veterinary medicine. We were very fortunate to have found this clinic--things would have turned out much differently had we not.
