I had a great experience today adopting a male cat. it didn't take long after I picked the cat I liked before I was doing adoption papers. you go in tell them if your there for a cat or a dog and they help you with the rest. they have a cat book up front you can look through, you pick a few you want to meet and fill out a form and off you go. if you have a spouse they also have to do a meet and greet and show ID. I'm sure if you have other animals the process might be a little different. I payed $25 for the adoption fee and $5 for a carry box to take my new baby home. staff were great, polite and helpful. they will answer any questions you have and make sure you find the right pick for you.

When we decided to adopt a dog we had one in mind for the visit. Fantasia was our counselor and a great one at that! After the visit with our initial pick unfortunately he wasn’t a good fit and Fantasia brought in another dog. It was love at first sight with a big ole greeting kiss. After discussing our desires and his personality we pretty much knew he was the one. Yet we took a couple days to make sure and to purchase the needed items for him. They are thorough here with the adoption process and rightly so, these dogs have had a rough start in life. They need responsible owners who are looking out for the best possible scenario for them and their future owners. They know what they’re talking about and care about the animals, so we need to take heed as it’s an adjustment for all.The bottom line is we had the best experience and in our opinion brought home the best dog!! He’s adjusting well and we couldn’t be happier, our family is complete now🤗Thank you Marion County for truly loving these animals! The Flinks

The staff were so sweet and helpful. They really love the dogs. There are so many people just buzzing around working either directly with the animals or the humans looking to adopt like us. It runs like a well oiled machine and it is all to benefit the animals. The dedication there is beyond compare. We adopted Jazz today. She is currently snoring on her new pad in our living room room taking her first well deserved nap. She is beyond sweet and rode in my lap on the whole way home. She was not remotely stressed. Coming directly from the shelter, that is pretty impressive. That speaks volumes for the staff there and the care they take. Fabulous place to adopt. Such a wonderful experience.Update on Lucy (formerly Jazz)It has been eight months since we adopted our little wriggler (her latest in a long line of nicknames). She is an amazing dog. She has matured so much and learned a ton. She has so much confidence now and is a true lover of life. It is hard to believe that our perfect little girl was ever given up, but we are so glad she is apart of our life now. We couldn't imagine life without her.

My husband and I adopted Luna at the beginning of January. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and helpful. We could see they care very much for all the animals they have. Our adoption counselor, Fantasheia, was amazing and so patient with us. Luna is doing great at home, and it's only been a few weeks. I would recommend anyone looking to adopt a new family member to consider visiting Humane Society of Marion County.

I mean it's a great place to see pets and animals. But the dogs can be intimidating when they keep barking loudly at you. But the cats are cute, And I've found my two lovely dogs there. ( I got the brown one Yoshi somewhere else though )

Took my dog there to have his teeth cleaned and a cracked tooth removed. The veterinarian and staff were excellent. The cost was a third of what my vet was going to charge me. My dog, he did great!

How can i be anything other that grateful and thrilled. In 2011, I got my little girl as a new puppy. She's been a delight. We celebrate a milestone. In June 2023 she's 12 y/o, happy and healthy, and a vital family member. She is well-adjusted, perfectly mannered, calm, loved, comfortable, safe, and a complete joy. She enjoys a rewarding and interesting life. I really got lucky with her.Pics at age 12 in 2023.A great dog !Thanks very much.

Staff didn't seem very friendly add all very indifferent... very corporate place want you to jump through hoops to adopt a pet seems to me they would rather leave a cat in a cage then give it a great home I will never return left very very dissatisfied recommend you go somewhere where people care

We had a great experience getting our 9 year old dog spayed. I was extremely nervous because she has never been away from us before. The clinic was busy when we came to pick her up but the staff were still very nice and answered all of our questions. The clinic was clean and organized. We are happy to have our girl back, thank you for taking great care of her!

What an amazing group of people! I’ve been to several animal shelters over the years and this was by far the most pleasant adoption experience I’ve had. First off, we adopted the perfect puppy. Secondly these folks went above and beyond to help make our adoption a success. They took time out of their normal working hours to accommodated for our current situation. It’s very apparent that these people really love and care for their animals. I highly recommend taking the time to go see these guys if your family is in need of a new member to add to it. I can’t thank them enough!

I found the visit disappointing. Dog viewing didn't appear to be encouraged. You are given a book and asked to look thru it to see if you are interested in any of their current dogs. This may be efficient for them, but sometimes the dogs personality doesn't show on paper. Our last dog, which we adopted at age one, had a good life with us. We were first profiled before seeing this future pet. That adoption was in Washington, DC, in 2010.He has since passed, and we are looking to adopt again.

You can no longer walk through and see the dogs. The employees explained that it was for insurance liability purposes, which is understandable. I've always loved going to the Humane Society growing up. Then I began taking my children. But the experience is no longer the same.

I brought another kitty to the vet here today, December 14th. We had a different vet but the same wonderful 5 star experience. On the way home my cat, Tommy Too, was very quiet. I asked him what he was thinking. He said, "That really cute vet and the pretty vet tech were so nice to me. I think they liked me. I bet if I stayed with them they would give me lots of treats."Original review: I had never been here before so I went to the wrong building at first. But the people there were so kind helping me get to the right area. Once I was in the right place, all I can say is parting is such sweet sorrow when you know it's time to let your animal go. The staff, techs and vet made it so much sweeter. Thank you so much for your kindness. It made Kirby's life perfect from start to finish. Goodbye sweet girl. Rest in peace. I will always remember you and I will write your story like I promised so you will not be forgotten.

We were looking to adopt a kitten. Upon visiting the Humane Society of Marion county we were greeted by the front desk office staff. The entire staff were knowledgeable, and were able to answer all our questions and concerns. We decided to adopt an Orange Tabby male kitten. The young lady who assisted with the adoption was through, and examplained the adoption process step by step. It's been only 5 days since bringing our kitten home, but we are thrilled with our choice. Difitnatley, Marion County is a place to consider when looking to adopt a dog or cat.

Bethann was the adoption counselor that helped us. She was nothing short of amazing. Not only did she take the time to help us better understand the personality and traits of each dog we met, but she listened to what kind of dog we were looking for. She went out of her way to bring us a dog that she thought fit our wants and lifestyle. Although we did not take this dog, we appreciated the extra effort! She made the process easy and helped us feel comfortable. I definitely recommend her if you’re looking for someone to assist you in finding your forever pet! Thanks again!- Jaden & Skye

Went in today with my fiancé to rescue in memory of my two Siamese babies I lost after 20 years together. We fell in love immediately with a little kitty named Toulouse and we had said a million times before going that we would only be adopting one. Then we met Pall Mall (such a silly name but he is so precious). The two of them are like night and day and they compliment one another perfectly. They’re currently playing with all their new toys and causing a ruckus and it is exactly what I hoped for after losing my babies after loving them so long. Now that same love can go to these two little guys and hopefully we will have as many years together, too. Adoption was easy going but very thorough- so if you’re not willing to do all the required paperwork and follow their strict rules I suggest considering why those rules and regulations are in place at all. I believe they are all trying to do their best to make sure so many animals are taken care of and adopted out to the appropriate people who will love them and be their forever homes. Overall a great experience and thank you so much for our new babies! They’re already adjusting so well!

Pet owners and animal lovers please be aware of the deadly risks that can be done by the services humane society of Marion county have to offer. They could send you home with a dying pet and a out of pocket vet emergency bill, like they did to me. To keep in mind the free pitbull neutering advertised on there Facebook page. Unfortunately I didn't even want to have my female dog neutered but due to my living situation I had too. This was an act of veterinarian malpractice and my experience here at humane society of Marion county was awful, it was life threatening and life changing I highly recommend going to an actual veterinarian to have your animal neutered or spayed. The staff here were so overwhelmed with getting as many people in and getting them out to open the operating table for the next victim. As I picked up my reimbursement check none of the employees were even concerned about my fur childs well being the girl calmly rolled her eyes walked back to get the check and handed me it in an envelope as she asked if I had any questions or concerns I could barely hold back my anger and felt humiliated at her question.

We had a very smooth and easy experience adopting our dog. The adoption counselor we had (Fantasheia) took all the time needed to introduce us to the dogs we were considering and also to explain the process. It is a super busy shelter but everyone there was helpful and nice. Would definitely adopt again through this shelter.

I accompanied my daughter to find her companion, she just lost her baby 3 weeks ago and she needs emotional support. The staff was amazing so caring and efficient. She was able to find her match on the second visit. My first impression of the place is that the animals are kept in a very clean area, I had just visited another place where the smell of urine was pretty bad, and the staff is helpful but not even close to the Humane Society Ocala. The meeting is done in a closed room so you have privacy, and you can ask all your questions. I was very happy for my daughter. Meet Miss Layla

I have been waiting on hold for over an hour and a half. I'd love to be able to get connected to someone so I can set an appointment date for my animal(s). Over an hour is ridiculous.(Edit) whenever I'm able to get through I'll give a better in depth review on my experience that'll prolly change the amount of stars. I know they're good at their jobs so I can't wait to change this review.

Never felt more disrespected than I did while trying to adopt a dog. Just because we put certain answers to some of their questions we gave off “red flags” and were denied even seeing a dog! Obviously their little “survey” doesn’t do much for screening considering the two dogs we wanted to see had already been returned back to the shelter. The person helping us could care less about adopting out an animal. These people don’t know us and have no idea what type of people we are. Our animals have a huge back yard, a porch, fan, and fresh water but leaving them in a fenced in back yard was inhumane to them and would rather us crate an animal rather than let them be a dog! Our animals want for nothing and they could have given one of those poor dogs a good home but decided to judge a book by its cover instead of giving us a chance. Never have I ever been made to feel the way I did while trying to adopt an animal to give it a better life.

I’m sorry, but I can’t believe I paid for something that didn’t even need to happen. I asked for them to check a cat about a breathing problem. I told them ahead of time she had a scheduled appointment with sheltering hands for a spay. They told me that it was a pallup or something that they could easily pick out with a tweezer. ( they new it was there before sedation, it didn’t need to be sedated) I said OK. Since they said it needed to be removed for her to breath. Turns out they couldn’t get it! And still charged me for sedation. Afterwards told me that sheltering hands could easily remove it during the spay. Then why would you people charge me for sedating her to remove it. Maybe it’s just me! I won’t bring another animal here.

I'm very glad to have come here. I have adopted a beautiful black adult cat and she has already become my fluffy family. The process of adoption is quick and it was very straightforward. If you are renting, bring the landlord's number so that they can be contacted to confirm. Also, it is a great idea to get a crate to carry the cat in, especially if you plan to travel in the future anyway.

Possibly adopting a dog today if my dog likes himI did adopt Disco. He fit right in like a glove. My dog Ginger and Disco get along quite well.Disco loves running around the yard that is about over 1/2 an acre. He gets his exercise. They both sleep with me and stay in bed till I get up.For the former adoption people. He just needed to be given a chance to get to know men and patience and understanding. My son won him over in a short time. The best decision I have made for my family

I think the main thing I liked was that the staff really knew the animals and they were open to sharing the needs of the animals rather than sending animals to inappropriate homes. That was a relief knowing exactly what I was giving within the best of their abilities. Thanks so much!
