Adrian the manager is so friendly and fantastic ! Helped me with the purchase of an adorable pink toe tarantula and gave me a lot of insight to keeping and caring for one that wasn’t in my research. 10/10 am going to go back for future purchases and knowledge from the wonderful staff. We went in to buy pet food for our multiple pets and my boyfriend noticed the scorpion being maintained in a non suitable enclosure to which he mentioned to the manager and the the manager immediately called the breeder who was foul with her and corrected the little guys living arrangement(where most pet stores would not care) The staff was extremely helpful and they show a lot of care and pride in the animals they carry that a lot of pet stores in this area do not.The setup for fish was excellent and well maintained which is also uncommon in this area. It is a breath of fresh air to see a pet store with such a professional and caring enviorment. Great management, great team, and great products.Prior experiences here were not enjoyable so glad new management gas stepped in and stepped up we will be coming back. This is my new neighborhood pet store

I have been buying feeder Rats from this store for 5 years. The last few times I've been in there the new manager has been very unfriendly and unwelcoming. I was told that I cannot go into the room where the rats are kept to pick one out. I've done it that way for 5 years! The way she told me was uncalled for. I'll start shopping the Venice store, they are much more friendly.

You can easily shop here for all your household pet needs. *6/29 edit (originally 5 star review)* This location seems to be going downhill more and more each time I come when it comes to staff. As I write this I am STILL waiting for my crickets I purchased, as it has been quite awhile since she started bagging. I've had to sit and watch while she stops mid bagging to talk to her friends that kept coming back multiple times..one of the managers ended up taking over for her on the register since business was nonstop after thah point. This is the worst customer service I've experienced here, and the longest its ever taken to get crickets. Some of the staff doesn't look very hygienic either which can be a bit off putting when wanting to ask for assistance for anything in here. (It's been 12 minutes since I started this and we JUST NOW finally got all our crickets and got to leave, and we had been waiting for her to finish bagging around 5 to 10 minutes prior to the 12 minute wait) I'm not one to normally call out by name but our cashier Juliette was not attentive at all. Even a few other times in the past when the worker chose to talk to with friends or coworkers it has NEVER taken OVER 10 minutes to get crickets (even for a large amount). Everytime she talked to the girls who kept.coming up to her she would stop bagging crickets increasing our wait time. She was also really quiet and barely spoke to us during checkout which made the checkout process longer than it needed to be.

I bought a Beta fish.It was dead by the next day.And when I brought the fish back to be replaced?I was informed that I needed to bring a separate water sample from the tank.Why they think I would keep that water.I'm not sure. There was no paperwork to specify any policies or rules in returning their dead pets. So I got no help as usual.

Bought 5 fish from this location one died. I called the store to ask about return policy. The young lady said as long it it was witin 7 days we could exchange. She advised us to bring the fish with a water sample. We showed up with the fish and water sample like she asked. She said oh no they need to be in separate containers. We threw the fish and water in the trash because she didnt want to help us. Total waste of time. We will stick to pet supplies. Friendlier staff and more knowledgeable. Lesson learned

My daughter has had her leopard gecko, Zuli, for 6 years. He is part of the family 💜. He recently had an impaction in his hemipene and we took him to an exotic veterinarian. He then refused to eat for the past month. My daughter even bought a $50 bag of critical care food and he wouldn’t eat.I stopped by Pet Supermarket in North Port and asked if anyone there was familiar with reptiles. One of the employees, Adriane, suggested I try wax worms. She explained it’s like giving them a donut compared to a salad. She was so knowledgeable and helpful!When I got home I tried giving Zuli a wax worm, and he ate it! In fact, he ate 6 of them! My heart is so happy and I’m so so thankful for her help! Thank you Adriane!

Don't get a small chewing animal and try to drive it to your house nearby, it will chew out of the paper box and you will not get a refund without a body. You will smell it though. Also, when I was there to try to replace our hampster that didn't make it, a gerbil was birthing babies. I asked to be put on waiting list but was told they dont do that and it woukd be months before the babies were ready. A few days later I went back to see if the hampsters were restocked and brought a kritter keeper of my own. I was upset to see there was a note asking people to sign up for the waitlist and babies to be released this month. When I told an associate about the issues I've had with the broken Katee cage, the bad boxing of our hampster and the bad return policy then the experience with the gerbils seemed like a bad dream. Myself and fiance heard them whispering about me and even he said he didn't think my name was added to the waitlist. If I dont get a call to pick up a black gerbil by May 25th, my next call is to corporate to report this store

Staff is super helpful. We buy frozen raw or gently cooked and no chicken so choices aren't always available. It looks like they have everything.

will never give them my business again. I wanted 3 small pets, i asked if they could hold for me. they said no, they can’t hold but 1 of the animals i wanted was being held for an employee. make it make sense. you can’t hold an animal for customers, but you can for employees? since when did employees come first before customers??? absolutely disgusting. they will never receive a penny of mine again.

WARNING ‼️ My daughter took her mini doodle to the groomer and they did a HORRIBLE JOB!!!! My daughter asked not to cut him like a poodle and they did anyway. He looks HORRIBLE!!! Do NOT go here!!!! They shaved him to the point he has a rash and shaved half of his tail and left the bottom part of his tail bushy. Ridiculous!!! Oh and they said the groomer was a “ master groomer “ what a joke.

I used to work here and god has the quality of the store gone down. It smells disgusting, shelving and fronting is messy. Animal care is horrible, rabbits without hides. There was a tree frog in an enclosure without proper substrate (had one of those green felt mats instead of coco fiber and bark to retain humidity in the tank). The most poor quality enclosure I saw while I was there was this Mudskipper bin.They weren't in a tank or anything; just a plastic bin with no air holes, filter, or anything to keep them in proper health.I will gladly go to PetSmart or Petco in Port Charlotte to buy supplies for my animals there than shop here again. They didn't even have dried mealworms. Overall I don't reccomend shopping here. They barely have supplies for repitles or any other pet that's not a dog or cat.

Disgusting. The store always smells like they never clean their dog wash. The animals are poorly taken care of, and the staff does not care enough to fix it. Having spent a decade in pet retail, I know that Pet Supermarket provides resources for finding what specific care an animal needs, including heating and substrate for reptiles, and dietary needs for the mammals and birds, but the staff ignores you completely when you bring up mistakes in the animal care. The tanks are not clean, and the fish have ich that is not being treated. The floor is coming apart in multiple places, so be careful not to trip or slide on the warped vinyl; there are no signs or warnings anywhere for the numerous trip hazards throughout the store. They’ll also over charge you, so double check your receipts before you leave!! The “management” here is a bunch of kids who showed up consistently to work so they got promoted, but are clearly under qualified for their positions, so do not expect professionalism or courtesy. Do yourself a favor and drive the 15 minutes to Petsmart or 5 minutes to Pet Supplies Plus down the road. The staff and the district manager should be ashamed of the poor quality of everything this store delivers.

We've been coming here for quite a few years. While it's not the only pet store we visit, it's the one we're most loyal to and happy to have as our local shop. 10 ferrets, a sugar glider, 2 cats, a dog, a mouse, and now breeding out Millipedes and various worms requires quite frequently trips for pet care needs, haha.Very friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt customer service. I've never noticed the store being understaffed or over crowded, which is nice for those unsure what they may need when beginning keeping a new breed or species of pet, for sure!All of the pets are VERY happy with their products 😸🐶

I highly recommend this Pet supermarket. I went in with an issue that I was definitely going to need some help with. One of the girls came right over and helped me right away . I have a dog that has to have low fat and no chicken ,chicken by products ,meal of any kind. I know from trying to find this elusive product previously that it's hard to find. I was buy Royal Canin low fat gastro only by prescription dog food. It's expensive and you have to have a prescription from a vet and you have to see the vet once a year to get said prescription which is also expensive. So I was trying to find some dog food that I could use without a prescription. Even your Buffalo, salmon, veal, lamb dry dog foods no matter what you get it usually has some kind of chicken meal or chicken something in there. Even your wet dog foods and freeze dried foods . She spent alot of time going up and down the Isles reading just about every bag trying to help me find a dry dog food with no chicken and low fat and small bites for my little Yorkie. We did find one . Or I should say she found one for me. It's. Performatrim Ultra Limited small bite sweet potato & fish formula. And what's more she gave me sample packs of the same to try before I opened the big bag to make sure that my Yorkie's liked it . Each sample pack also had a $1.00 off coupon . Very helpful when you have 4 dogs to feed. The others have no issues but I feed everyone the same so theirs no hurt feelings. Picture of food below. Love this store and it's really great employees

Very poor customer service on behalf of the store manager, Adrian. The cashier was very polite and helpful. We came in for 2 feeder mice and 2 dozen crickets and when we got to the counter, alot of them were dead and there was less than a dozen in the bag. My husband had asked them to correct it so the manager went and dumped them out. We walked over after paying to grab the crickets and the manager was very rude from the start, told him she hand picked them and shewed us out the door with her hand. My husband asked her why she felt the need to be rude and that it was unacceptable as we were standing there with our 8 year old son. Choosing a different pet store from now on. I'd much rather drive 25 minutes than to deal with managers like her. Customer care was not shown today.

They're leopard gecko care is absolutely terrible, the cage looks like it hasn't been cleaned in weeks. I've been caring for leopard geckos for over 12 years and this is below the bare minimum. Leopard geckos need at least three hides (one moist hide with damp moss, a warm hide and cool hide) and a tank over 20g to be happy. Also there is no water in the water dish. It's just abuse and neglect. I only come here for crickets and worms, nothing else.

I always go here for ferret needs and just seeing what else they have in stock. The customer service has always been great every time I visit and they have always felt like they care about your needs. I highly recommend this store if you have any pets or even exotic pets

The customer service here was bad. I was looking at the rabbits and petting them and the lady come over and shut the door on me and was being really rude to me. I was looking to buy a new rabbit and I will say they lost a sale. The rabbit seem to not be that well taken care of there. So thank you to the cashier name Hannah for being so rude and losing a sale.

I've been coming her for years, ive slent a lot of money on pets, supplies, food, and feeders, but this place has been going downhill for about a year now. Lately, they are either out of crickets, out of feeder shrimp, or both. There are so many dead fish floating in the tanks that look like they've been dead for a while. Some of the staff are nice, but some are extremely rude. Well I've decided that even tho this location is so close to my house I'm going to start spending my money somewhere else. There are other pet store companies in town I'll drive to them and spend my money there. Clean up your act, or you will lose even more business.

The couple that owns this shop is just amazing! They are very nice and they know what there doing. Me and my fiance go there all the time and they pretty much know everybody by their names. They treat you like family so whenever you go in the store for whatever reason its very welcoming and friendly. If you have a question they are very helpful! Would recommend this place to anyone and everybody! Oh and they also have the cutest helper sometimes lol they bring their dog in and he's the sweetest!
