I had to surrender my cat because he was so anxious when traveling. He would start to pant like a dog that is hot or warm. Cats do not paint. That's an indication of anxiety. Before I finished the paperwork and had surrendered my beautiful Beau, there were two people that had come in looking for a cat and they seemed to really take to my kitty. I left him to them

THIS PLACE DENIED AN AUTISTIC CHILD A DOG FOR ZERO REASON! CLAIMED I HAD A ISSUE WITH MY LANDLORD APPROVAL WHICH WAS SO FAR FROM THE TRUTH! Our son has AUTISM and we were going through the process with our landlord to get an approved letter. He was going to allow us a 30lb dog for our son who has special needs/autism. We were going to get the dog certified for our son also. THANKFULLY THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER PLACES TO ADOPT ANIMALS AT! THIS PLACE SERIOUSLY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!

Wouldn’t let me see any dogs but puppies. I put a foster and adoption application in and there was no follow up. Lady at desk was super super nice but behavioral lady didn’t want to help do anything. Some of the staff act like they were being put out. I have seen some of the staff with dogs at the Villages and they are much more helpful than at the home base. I ended up going to the shelter instead

Very nice place. Clean, no foul odors. The grounds are very nice. A place to run and play. A place for some training. And kiddie pools full of clear clean water to cool off or play in.We adopted a bonded pair of AKC Rottweilers and the 4 of us could not be happier.Thank you for our Luv bugs 💖

I went with a friend all the cats are very friendly they have a kitten room and a older cat room! Very well taken care of cats have everything they need and more! Awesome place if you love cats!

My most sincere thanks for be so nice and genuine, I went today to dropped off 5 kittens, they born in my property and I took care of them for 2 months, I contacted SPCA to help me found a loveable,responsible homes for them and there answered was yes, since day one I received positive response and to be more grateful was on the worse day for me which was dropped them off and I found these 3 wonderful ladies in the office treating me like we was friends, thank you for all your help and please people out there be more open mind, responsible,careful, with animals, planet and ADOPT DON'T BUY !!!!

I adopted a puppy from here last month and I can't say enough about how positive the experience was. Neo, now named Butters, is the sweetest, smartest most adorable puppy, and I credit it all to Ryan and how she took on the puppies and raised them, the staff has been amazing, answering my questions, helping me make sure Butters has all his meds and shots, they helped me get him to the vet to be fixed,so knowledgeable and kind! Everyone I met there was wonderful!! Pattie and Ryan are the GOAT!!

If I could give this place a 0 I would, I have never spoke to more incompetent adults in my life. I explained my situation and they wanted nothing to do with me because I'm not a resident(I live in marion) I just wanted information for someone who is elderly and lives in Sumter Co. She has also been getting the run around. I can see why she was frustrated, it was like running in a circle.I still never got the answers I wanted or needed.

The facility it layer out very nicely with outdoor areas for animals to enjoy. It's very clean and personal are friendly and knowledgeable. I did adopt a dog here.

I adopted my sweet boy Roscoe a little over 6 months ago. The staff were very friendly and the volunteer I met was very nice. They were able to answer all of my questions and they provided me with food, a harness, collar, leash, treats, a blanket and a large crate; they went out of their way to get me the crate. Also, they followed up with a phone call to see how things were going with Roscoe. I would definitely recommend adopting from this humane society. Thank you for a great dog! 🤗

Adopted "Ace" in late December. He's amazing, loves every person and dog he meets. No nightly accidents or chewing problems. Changed his name to "Bodecious" because he truly is. Thank you all for such a wonderful companion

I am all for adopting at shelters, but not one with this adoption process. I even heard one staff member scold a volunteer for telling an adoptee picking up why the dog was given up like they wanted to keep that a secret. We wanted a puppy because we have a 2 year old with little understanding of boundaries just yet. We went to meet a puppy, filled out the application prior, they LOVED each other. The woman, I believe her name was "star" was very rude. She was not friendly or pleasant at all. Over a week later she called about my other dog and wanted to know why the vet didn't have record of her vaccinations..I told her they didnt do them that we moved here from out of state and took her to vetco. She automatically started sounding snood like how dare me for not knowing the name of all the different vets that signed up for vetco from years ago off the top of my head. If you want to find dogs homes so they arent living in your gross cages (did not look pleasant) dont make it like an interrogation! We were more than capable of visiting the next day with our dog and taking the puppy home same day if all went well but instead they wanted to be rude and ask 800 questions that dont relate to caring for the puppy. Maybe that's why you dont have a lot of funding?

Found my baby here a few months back. The staff was so kind and accommodating to us. The adoption manger, Star, worked with our busy schedule, in order to let us meet Freckles (we changed her name since then). The whole staff was incredibly sweet. There was one volunteer, a young woman, who knew all the dogs so well (I cannot remember her name, but she was so awesome!). She told us so much information about Freckles that has been so helpful to us in training her. The facilities were clean and there was a nice grassy area for the dogs to run around loose in. I couldn't recommend this place enough <3

These people were great. I wanted a dog no I needed a dog. They processed my application in less than 24hrs. I was accepted but wouldnt you know life had other plans for me! I had to leave that beautiful fur baby there breaks my heart. This was gonna be her big chance to finally get outta there she had been there 2 1/2 yrs!! Anyway great people

They do a great job taking care of all creatures brought to them. They can always use donations of time/blankets, towels, animal beds/crates, water/food dishes, collars, ect. Chewy.com is where they have a needs list, check it out. Everyone I have encountered has been helpful and appreciative. They do a great job, sometimes on very little.

The guy that I just talk to at this shelter was so rude I literally just moved here from Kentucky living in an RV I have nothing, and they won’t even help me with dog food or cat food unless I can provide income. I have no way to provide that considering everything I own is packed up, and because I can’t provide proof because I don’t have my W-2s because why would I move them with me Instead of packing them up in a safe place I can’t get help. And then did just hang up on me instead of helping me find another resource that could help me.

We went to look at Max and ended up with Bree. Max is such a beautiful big male but he needed to be an only dog. He wasn't happy with our 4 month old puppy. The people are great there and so carrying. They donations which they need. The place was super clean and they didn't even know I was coming. I am so very impressed with you all. Thanks

My Mom just adopted a cat from Sumter County and we had a wonderful experience. The folks that work in their office are TOP NOTCH, professional and caring people. The place that the cats were being kept was cool, clean and full of food, water and toys. I was VERY impressed with the overall facilities.

A kitten was found in The Villages and we wanted to adopt it. We contacted the caring finders who brought him to this shelter on the weekend and told them that I wanted to adopt him. They gave the shelter a donation to cover our expenses and told my wife and I to go to the shelter Monday morning to get the kitten (Tux). When we got there (a 30 min drive) we were told that an employee took him home to foster because he was so small. We were told to fill out an application and there was another party interested in him. I filled out the app online and received an email that they would get back to us in a couple days-they called our 2 references. However 8 days went by so I called them and was told the foster person decided to keep him. When i told the people who found the kitten, I was told the shelter lied to them.Terrible way things were handled. No phone call from them and giving the kitten to an employee. Will never consider going there again. If you read reviews of others, several experienced the same discourteous, lying treatment. There are several great volunteers who work there (Gloria Litman is one) so this behavior is not representative of the others.

If you ever decide to get a pet from here you better have every detail from previous pet in triplicate and signed by 3 witnesses. We didn't keep all that old paperwork from our last dogs and sure enough county lost vaccination records for 1 of them. They want to keep all those dogs!

Thankyou so much for the wonderful staff and for the care they give to all the homeless pets they help.. I had a wonderful experience while I was adopting my new fur baby...it was so good I called on the way home to tell them I wanted to adopt another dog .. thankyou please,keep up the great work.. Laura newkirkJust want you all to know, I kept my word and went back to adopt another dog. So two fur babies will be joining me for Christmas out of the shelter... Thankyou again..
