Although our last dog, Sophie, passed in April 2023, I go all the way back to 1977 with Jim Rojas, whose business, The Dog House, was then located on the opposite side of Third St. During those 47 years (minus s 25-year hiatus when we lived in New Orleans, then Houston), Jim has provided at least 5 of our dogs—the most recent being Cosby, Dolly, & Sophie—with his exceptional expertise as a groomer & unofficial canine psychologist. I miss seeing Jim and having dogs who benefited greatly from his care and kindness. Not surprisingly, I highly recommend him.

Beautiful job on our schnauzer. We have never been disappointed...very clean cut and look. Hans runs right in so I know he's being treated gently and lovingly. We've had a lot of schnauzers and this groomer is the best.

don’t come here if you own a normal size dog. i made an appointment with a really friendly man who i believe was the owner, i told him i owned an Australian shepherd poodle mix and that he looked large but he just has a lot of fur and is actually really skinny. keep in mind it is sweltering in jacksonville and his coat grows fairly fast so he is not getting along with this heat and can only be outside for a few minutes at a time. the man said that the largest they would take is 60 pounds because of not being able to lift larger dogs and i completely understood and assured him that my dog was that weight. i take my very old (12-13 yrs) boy, who has to really struggle to get into a car on a 20 minute drive there and i walk in and the man says he’s too big. i again said he just looks large but he just has a lot of fur. he said that he is definitely way over “fifty” pounds (he said 60 was the largest they take on the phone) and that he had to be 70 pounds and that they couldn’t groom him. he said he was expecting an australian shepherd, i did tell him twice on the phone he is a poodle mix. again i do understand that the women would have a hard time lifting a very large dog but i was under the impression my dog would be just fine since i was told 60 pounds was as much as they could do. they didn’t even try to see if he was too heavy, they just went off looks. i called my vet to double check on his weight after i left and my dog is 61 pounds. i then go on yelp to see pictures of other dogs they have groomed and the FIRST picture i see has a very large dog that looks like a samoyed but black. again i do understand that the man told me what size dog they could do and any bigger it just wouldn’t be possible due to the workers circumstances and i knew my dog fit the criteria, but i’m just disappointed that they didn’t even try to feel if he was too big and that the weight limit i was told on the phone was different than what he said in person. what i don’t understand is why they wouldn’t hire someone who could groom larger dogs???? that way they wouldn’t turn away customers willing to spend their hard earned money and support their business
