Really a great little LFS, local fish shop. Good selection of fresh and salt fish and inverts and a decent selection of canned and frozen foods and supplies. Good pond section with great nets. Very friendly and attentive staff. Small very clean here section and good rodent feeders, crickets and feeder fish. Support your local business all the time.

The best place!! Me and my whole family have been going here for about 2 years now. They are like family... We have fish and a bearded dragon... They help us always and remember us, even if it's been weeks before coming back in... All the staff is great.... Wyatt is always helpful and truly cares about his job. Definitely better than going to any big fish chain store...we love you all guys and thanks for helping our fish family grow.

I always used to go to Hogtown reptiles when I’m In Gainesville, but yesterday I found out they closed down. Found Scales and Tales, decided to give them a shot. Just needed a feeder rat. The boy working was very kind and great at his job, but his coworker absolutely out shined him. She greeted me at the door, she walked around the store with me, she showed me where she sleeps under the counter when the boss isn’t there, she brought me toys, and even insisted I rub her belly. That cat needs a raise.

Absolutely one of my favorite petstores! The staff is very kind; always ready lend a hand, answer questions, and share their knowledge about the animals they love.I've special ordered large quantities of crickets (>1,000), specific fish, and even aquatic plants. They have always arrived alive and in great shape. Not seeing the reptile, bird, or rabbit you were looking for? Leave your name and number and if they get in any animals fitting the description they'll give you a call. (Found a cute hedgehog this way)They are in the process of making upgrades, I can't wait to see the new salt water setup. One great feature in the fresh water section is the tanks are individually filtered, meaning if one tank is sick it doesn't spread to the other tanks. They will let you know which tanks are being treated; this has definitely helped, I have yet to bring home a sick fish.

This place is disappointing. First off it is dirty. It looks like a storage shed, everything is covered in dust and there’s random, filthy, empty tanks sitting everywhere. Not to mention the animals, the leopard geckos are kept in horrible conditions, the birds are clearly stressed and their food looks cheap and unhealthy. Their bettas are kept in mason jars and sold with tiny 1 gallon “tanks”. When I confronted the owner about these problems through email they were incredibly condescending and unprofessional and used extremely outdated information to justify their husbandry.

3 stars for animal husbandry (excluding fish which I’m not educated on). Some issues included the 10gal tank& cage topper the offered as a gerbil starter kit. Then while at the back of the store there were two bearded dragons one in a cracked tank on a stand and one placed directly in front of the stand in a bin on the ground. The dragon on the stand above was going nuts head bobbing and hitting the glass that had a huge crack in it. I hope this was temporary, I didn’t see any injuries but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were. Also the store cat was chill but keeping cats around unsecured small animals is not a risk most responsible keepers will take. I hope they update their knowledge on small mammal cage requirements, otherwise nice people and beautiful fish.

This was an awesome find, the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure that I received items that I needed at an affordable price, in a very convenient time frame. I bought a 55 gallon aquarium, a stand, some water conditioner, a filter, and some nets. The young man running the shop was extremely awesome. He helped me load up my purchases, not once, but twice when we discovered that I was unable to fit the tank and stand in my wife's vehicle. I was extremely satisfied with the quality and cost of all of these items. I will certainty be back for any future needs! It is a small mom and pop style business, but was very clean with an amazing selection of pets and supplies.

Walked in waited 10-15 minutes with another family who was waiting. No one came in to assist and I ended up just walking out and leaving. The employee was outside talking with someone at a truck and never even looked in the store.Edit: must of been a bad day for all involved. Since then the staff has been great and overall upkeep of the shop is great. They even really updated the amount of fish species in store. The owner is helpful as well. Updated to 5 star.I ended up moving 3 and a half hours away. Wyatt and this store helped me bag my fish and helped me keep them all alive for the trip. Recommend this store to anyone in the area.

Their staff saved my fish! I needed help with my fish tank, I had a few issues (in over my head). I brought a sample of the tank water in and they were able to get me the right products to level out the ph. They have a surprisingly large variety of exotic fish, and are very knowledgeable. Pricing is so reasonable and friendliness of staff was just top notch! They are so patient. Thank you!

Great to have a fish and reptiles store again. Like to look around, learn about creatures I did not know of. I liked the place and the young man helping me was so nice. I could tell he liked being there. He was drying a ferret when I walked in, gentle and loving to that animal. Pleasant time there and they had the goldfish that i wanted. I will be visiting again.

Employees are well educated and most are friendly besides one girl. It’s not that she’s not friendly, more just shy. I wish they would take better care of the animals. Bedding is fine with rabbits and small rodents, but water tends to be dirty. Fish seem overstocked and tanks are dirty. I offered to get a job here to clean the tanks but the girl said no🙃

My favorite pet store. They are a local store. Everyone there are very knowledgeable about the animals & merchandise. Give them a chance before you go to a large corporation pet store. You Maybe Surprised.

Staff were friendly and they have a nice selection but the animals are not cared for. Saw fish tanks full of disease and some dead fish. Most of the tanks were 10 gallons that were severely overstocked. Also saw someone picking out at least 10 specific feeder goldfish like they planned to keep them and the employee did not inform them of how big those fish can get or how large of a tank just one needs. Guinea pigs with no hay, that can lead to dental and digestive problems. Didn’t see any ferrets in the cage but it looked gross like it hadn’t ever been deep cleaned. Bearded dragons on sand that can cause impaction. I was quite disappointed as this place has good reviews but going in there made me mad. I planned to say something about the ich in their tanks but when I saw the rest of the store I realized they don’t care and probably wouldn’t do anything.

Great reptile store! The staff is always polite and kind, and they have pretty cool reptiles and amphibians. I’ve become a regular, now. They also sell live and frozen rodents with other feeds for your animal.

Very friendly staff and helpful. Small little pet shop with a good selection of fish and not pricey on fish and supplies. They had frogs, turtles, snakes, lizards, hamsters and a guinea pig that all looked well taken care of.

Walked in for the first time over the weekend, the owner was very nice and friendly. Their animal selection was impressive considering the size of the actual location. It also didn't smell like a normal pet place would. which was also nice.
