Updating my removed 2 star review: I moved up here from South Florida, three years ago, where fish stores were as plentiful as gas stations. Gainesville is not that. These guys, even though they’re the only fish store that NOT big box, they do a decent job. I’m the type of person that believes that there is always room for improvement and less I walk into a store in my mouth doesn’t close. You do not get that affect here, unfortunately. Unless you’re standing in front of their show tank that is.Over the last year, I would say that they have come a long way ! The store is a lot cleaner, and they revamped their tanks. There is a constant variety of tropical freshwater and salt, water fish any day of the week. The best day to come here is either Wednesday or Thursday when they get their shipment in.Bichirs are kind of a new infatuation of mine, and boy, do they got em🔥

I have heard only good things about this vendor. However, upon attempting to schedule a minimal cleaning of a personal, 10 gallon fresh water tank, have received no response after reaching out 3 times. I understand that you may be busy and a small tank does not give you a huge ROI. A return phone call would be appreciated. To me, this shows that you are a business only and do not care about the concerns of living creatures. I do care about the lives I chose to be responsible for and will now choose to give additional $$ to a company in Jacksonville to come and ensure that my fish are safe. You have also lost an opportunity to assist and educate new fish enthusiasts.

We went in with a list of things we needed to complete different setups we had at home, everything from a 10 gallon guppy tank to a 75 gallon turtle habitat. They had every single thing we needed, the knowledge to help us set up a new aquarium with fish we were less familiar with, and a terrific, efficient, friendly group of employees who were passionate about what they were doing and helping us with what we needed. This is now our fish store. We won't go anywhere else for future needs. If they don't have it, I'll wait until they order it for me. Absolutely amazing experience, with the added bonus of supporting a small business instead of a big box pet store. I would give them more than five stars if I could.

This is the place to go if you have any questions about your fish tank. Very knowledgeable about all the things you need to know. They will test your water and show you how to fix it. The fish that they sell are top notch. It's in a congested area of Gainesville but it is well worth the drive. I drive in from Hawthorne to get their advice.

Very disappointed in this store. I brought over $100 in fish the first week, things were fine. Went back 2 weeks later, spent over $100.. 2 days later all my fish had ick.. Took them back along with a water sample. They couldn't figure out why all my fish died. Was NOT accommodating at all. Yea, I do not recommend this place. The customer service was not good.

I keep going back and buying fish and I’m just not going to anymore. Every time I go in and spend money on fish they keep getting sick an dieing. And I’ve called and asked about it , my water is perfect in my tank and I have other fish not dieing but I just had to flush my big beautiful blue fish because it had a big parasite in it , and exploded inside my tank and was half alive. Almost all 20 ish fish I’ve bought here have gotten sick. And I’ve tested the water , and I really liked this place .. and it sucks with the amount of $ spent

These guys are amazing! We jumped in with both feet to a 75gal tank for my husband’s birthday, and it has been sooo overwhelming to try to learn “all the things”, but with the crew at Aquatropics, it has been ENJOYABLE! They have walked us through EVERYTHING from setup, to water changes, additives and treatments when needed, which fish get along based on our preferences, and have handled my very overthinking mind without batting an eye. Prices are lower than most pet stores where the employees may not be as knowledgeable, and we are soooo happy!Go see them for all your aquarium needs!

The owner and the rest of the staff are so helpful and knowledgeable. This is my favorite fish store I have visited in a long time. Amanda and I will be frequenting this awesome store. PS. The owner drives to Tampa every Monday and handpicks the fish etc for his customers. Who does that? These guys do. Please go visit.

Very helpful employees. Was looking for an aggressive fish that I could grow in my tank alone.They pointed me to this wolf cichlid. He is perfect. Eats other feeder fish and puts on a show. Was also informed of water temperature needs, size he will get, and what tank mates would be good with him if I decided to get some in the future. Great assortment of salt and fresh water fish here, and also anything you need when it comes to supplies and food!

Awesome staff that's very knowledgeable and friendly. My wife ended up convincing me to leave with a 3ft moray eel they had in stock. Great selection of freshwater fish as well, lots of uncommon breeds. They also have an awesome rare freshwater turtle on display that is rather awesome. I stay in Jax and would definitely make the hour and a half drive again.

Staff was nice and friendly the salt water fish I feel they cater to more then there fresh water fish and there personal tank setup they put more effort inthere cichlids are not in the best shape there more younger ones have decent color some do some don’t I personally wouldn’t buy any of my personal fish here unless you are getting salt water fish seem to be the more healthy fish I was in the area and came across them not trying to bash anyone here but there needs to be more pride and for the quality of of there cichlids they are the bottom of the barrel and over priced each and almost everyone had a flaw on them which looked like some type of issue or sickness and I’m not mixing them With my cichlid community tank which I put pride and money into

They have just about everything you need for all your aquarium needs. The staff there is always courteous and attentive. Vast array of livestock. Like with every fish from any store, always quarantine before adding to your main tank.

I have bought many fish from Aquatropics over the years, I think they have the best stock of saltwater fish and live rock assortment in Gainesville. The staff is so knowledgeable about every part of owning a saltwater tank. Sometimes it’s just fun to go look at the fish they have in stock. You will not find a better place for fresh or saltwater fish in Gainesville.

Gross store. Visited here a couple of times years ago and did not buy due to how disgusting their saltwater fish tanks were. Dead fish just laying in the tanks and gross looking water. Fast forward probably 7 to 8 years later, I thought I would visit out of curiosity a couple of weeks ago. Still gross. Dead fish just laying in the tanks. I realize fish die all the time in LFS, however most staff have enough pride in their store to remove and attempt to present clean tanks. I feel like these guys just don't care and that translates to poor stock quality. Try other fish stores. There is a good one in Ocala and several in Orlando.

Have made several purchases from them since beginning a freshwater aquarium a few months back. Bought 6 baby pea puffers from them and unfortunately they all died very quickly. Called and spoke with them about the issue. They were very knowledgeable and remedied the issue. Please don't let this scare you from buying from them. My original 2 pea puffers I bought from them are doing amazing to this day. I think their source for the babies was the issue. Sometimes problems arise, it speaks volumes for a company on how they handle these unforseen and unfortunate issues. I've also bought many different types of aquatic plants and the plants are doing great, growing and thriving! I'll most definitely buy from them again in the future!

This place has changed so much for the better; I love supporting local business, if you're in the hobby then I highly recommend stopping by and giving them a look over. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they have a wide variety of inventory. They also have an upcycle room to buy things used, which is great.My only complaint is we can never have enough plants 😂

The best fish store I have ever been to in Gainesville. This place isn’t flashy and big like pet smart, but is a small well taken care of store where the owners love what they do and so do the employees. I enjoy this store personally because it has an amazing selection of fish and they held a beta fish for me for 2 days! Until I came to get him, other stores wouldn’t do that! let alone care unlike these guys! They are amazing people and love everything about fish. I do have to get my step dad to drive me down there but it’s worth it. They want their fish to go to smart people who know what they are doing because they care for their fish, the fish in the store is a second family to these people they care and they are so helpful! I’m soon going to buy a 5-1/2 gallon tank they have there for my beta fish and I trust I’m getting the best stuff their then any other place.

This is my all time favorite aquarium shop. I've been a customer since the early 80's. Prices are competitive and they still have a great selection of fish and corals especially African Cichlids, my favorite. I love the variety of their display tanks.
