I believe this is one of South Florida best kept secrets. Just enough out of the way from busy Miami to enjoy nature at its finest This is a wonderful place with much peace and quiet. The spring is the best time to visit here. Many miles of scenic driving or just riding your bike.Picnic area: The only picnic area seems to be the main campground. They are for reservation, however.

There is a quiet and deeply serene aura about this place that draws one into it. The dirt road paths invite to explore its wildflowers(when in season) and the sunrise/sunsets are majestic. I fell in love with it 2 yrs ago as i was crossing Southern Florida east to west and wanted to avoid boring I-75. I came back recently to explore it more. Included are some pictures of the outing

Trails not well maintained but there are some nice small roads for a drive through. There were a lot of gators to see if you look close.

Fun area, just wish there were more signs (from the road). We went to a couple areas but just wandered through the woods. We’ll probably go back again and see what else is there.

Visited to hike two trails that is part of the Florida State Forest Trailwalker Program (Tram and Twin Mills). We were here most of the afternoon and didn't see anyone, very peaceful. The trails don't seem to get walked much. Definitely GPS the trail on your phone as several trail makers on Tram Trail seemed to be missing. Nice place to relax.

I live only 20 minutes from this state forest and I was a bit hesitant coming here to hike due to it being so remote. Boy I am glad that I went! I hiked the two main trails, Tram trail and Twin Mills. The tram trail runs on a old logging tram and there are remnants left of the rail line. The twin mills trail is very nice to hike as you enter a oak hammock. There isn't much wildlife during the day but Im sure there is during the evening. This is one of the only state forests in south Florida and I'm glad to live near it.

Beautiful area for nature viewing, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. I stayed at the panther pond camp ant it had nice clean campsites. Very primative so no water, power, or bathroom facilities just a couple of outhouses. They were very clean the first visit but pretty bad the second time we visited. Nice large campsites with fire pit and picnic table.

So I've been there a week ago, and I used the entrance that I marked on the picture, using that way the park it's not so nice. We had a good deck to watch the swamp, and nothing more. Look like if it's just roads to hunting been using. No trail, and the picnic area was totally destroyed. Maybe to bike can be nice there.(Check the pictures attached here)

An interesting variety of woodlands and marshy areas can be viewed on short scenic dirt roads and from a boardwalk through this beautiful state forest. Saw several deer, rabbits, cara caras, red and black headed vultures, tiny doves, and quail. Bring your camera and binoculars and plan on taking your time driving through Okaloacoochee to explore its hidden treasures.

I'm a photographer and came across this park when a client from the other coast of Florida and I decided to meet halfway between us. It's such a beautiful park with so much property to explore. Wish we could've stayed longer! Photos by Katie Beiler Photography.

Very peaceful and relaxing. It was so nice to be away from people and the roads. Has a very Florida feel with lots of untouched trails and trees/plants. You could def make a day of it! We will be going back.

I frequent many state forests, wma’s and National wildlife refuges and the Ok slough is by far the best maintained one.The forest rangers and workers do a great job.Over the last 15 years many things have changed here but not the overall upkeep and great people working this land.I have seen bobcats ,black bear, otter, deer, turkey, armadillo, raccoons and most snakes our state has. Thanks for making such a great place in nature stand out above the rest.

Remote areas, with primitive campsites that require a small fee. Lots of wildlife including Panthers. Well marked Horse trails.

A great place to go for a day to get away from it all. Hike, walk, bike or drive there is a lot of wildlife to see. There are primitive camp sites that can be reserved (if that is what you like), some sites are under a hammock and there is a handicap site as well as a rest room.

This is a quiet campground, not many people there.it's about a mile drive down a gravel road that is in excellent condition. Most of the campsites would not be good for a larger motorhomes. There are only Porta-Johns for a bathroom. The campsites themselves are very nice with picnic tables and fire pits.

Very disappointing. Hiking Trails unkept & most are impassable. The 1 that was useable was super short. Horse trail closed. Complete obvious lack lack of maintenance, which is a shame, considering the vast size of this place and literally nothing to do but drive around dirt roads.

It was great! But I was flying over it in a small airplane so I can't comment on the accomodations.

Beautiful, remote and quiet. Spent two days camping completely along at Hunt Camp 2 - Site #2 (part of Panther Lake Campground). This place it a gem.

Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest is a hidden gem within Florida. I've lived in Florida for 12 years, roughly 40 miles from this park and never knew it existed until I did research on nature trails near me. This park is untouched with many trails and beautiful photography opportunities, especially during sunset and sunrise. Also there will be many wildlife viewing opportunities.

Great place for a hike: close to Naples but even in the high season you will likely be all alone here. It feels like you are all by yourself in the wilds of the Everglades... delightful!
