Update 30/22023I am adding as we learn about the lies of Hancock Seed & Farm to protect others. Of course they never returned calls, they never took their seed back and never offered to return the $1,000 to me. I told them they can have 5 out of 6 bags back but ... No response.Instead they wrote on BBB that seeding grass is not easy. They should have said that their grass seed is the problem. I went to Tractor Supply, bought a 50lb bag, spread it out and ... take a look at the results (with Hancock seed and with Tractor Supply seed) yourself. It germinates all over without having to worry anything.August 2023 after trying for 3 months. Here is the portfolio of excuses this company is going to provide you with, to explain the failure of their product:- night time temperature too cold in April/May- takes 6 weeks to germinate (winning time)- PH value too high by about 1 point (go change your soil to acid)- when soil PH is right at 5.5 it must be the unit you measure with- seed needs to be 1/4" buried in the soil, not 1/2" (don't forget to buy a caliper)- grass seed can't lay on top (good luck with Florida rain washing seed out over 6 weeks period of time)One of the pictures shows the seed turned white after being washed up by rain, doing nothing in 2 months. They guarantee 80% success rate, well that's easy when your prepared list of excuses is that long. We bought seed from Traktor Supply and 2 weeks later we had grass (see the picture) all over the place. Too bad we spent $1,000 with Hancock but maybe it serves as bird food, at least.Long story short, don't get trapped with them! If seeding grass becomes that difficult with their product, they should not be selling anything.1 point out of 5 while minus 5 would be a well deserved rating.PS: just to show the dishonesty they operate with, l have attached 2 pictures, showing their seed (in white) right next to the PH value they require to be 5.5Ooopps, it's 5.5 indeed? That's when they stopped responding.

Buyer Be Aware. Purchase at your own risk.I had a horrible experience and will never purchase from this company again! I purchased 25LBS Granite KBG, 10LBS of Midnight KGB and 10LBS of Titan RX Turf Type Tall Fescue. So obviously spent my own money on this company’s product.I seeded and while seeds began to germinate, I noticed powdery mildew and brown patch disease on all area that were seeded. I contacted the company and informed them and they response was to send a response email with the definitions and history of powdery mildew and brown patch disease. I still had a large of amount of product remaining that wasn’t used and asked for any sort of reimbursement, credit and sadly non was offered. They however thank me for buying their seeds with no resolution. Be aware, if you have any issues with the grass seeds with this company, they’ll give you the runaround. I have included pictures I sent them verifying the issues I experienced with ALL their seeds.I ultimately purchased seeds from another company the same year and seeded with no issues whatsoever. The 4 last pictures with the nice lawn are KBG seeds I purchased from another company. I’ve been doing this for many years and I know how to recognize bad vs good cultivar of grass seeds.Btw I left an honest review (1 star) on their website about my experience and they deleted it.

I ordered fifty pounds of seed from hancock farm and seed company. The package did not come in when they said it would come in because they claimed they it got damaged and was being returned to them. Then a few days later I received the package which was damaged water soaked and water stained so it had been like that for several days maybe longer. The item was no good.I called Hancock several times they wouldn't even return my call. Finally I had to call my credit card company to try to get my money back. This is a horrible company and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Ordered 5# of Indian grass seed. Didn’t grow. Called and got nothing but the run around. Asked for help with telling me how to get to grow there. They told me it was to steep appear to be be to shaded. Zero help on how to make it grow. They only said their seed supplier said that he had a good a good germination test. Mind you this was $100 worth of seed. Not a huge deal. But theiridea of making things good was a 10% off a future order. Absolutely the worst customer service I have seen in 50 years. I would never recommend this company to my worst enemy! Check out the pics and see the outcome of my work. Nothing but weeds and now I need to redo all my work. I’m not happy. I would run away for this company as fast as I could. So remember there is nothing to fall back on if your seed doesn’t grow. According to them it something you did wrong. Not them!

Update on my DIY lawn renovation, 1.5 years later, all my neighbors tell me I have the nicest lawn in the neighborhood!!! I never have to water the grass, fertilize lightly 2-3 times a year as in So FL it stays dark green year round. I use minuscule amounts of herbicides and pesticides, what an environmentally friendly turf!!! I only cut twice per month, which 9 months out the year is plenty and in the summer it allows me to grow it a little longer due to heat stress. The longer summer grass produces Y shaped seed heads which essentially overseeds the lawn. I am saving major $$$ on maintenance costs all around with Argentine Bahia over St Augustine! Why doesn’t the State of Florida mandate this as the preferred residential turf for water conservation and environmental protection?!!Planted Hancock Argentine Bahia coated grass seed in my front yard July 7th, after killing all the weeds, waiting 5 days, tilling the soil, and raking out the dead weeds. Added Millorganite and organic topsoil to gray sandy base to help hold moisture longer between daily waterings. 17 days in and the areas that have more shade and thus retained moisture longer have 80-90% seed germination, the areas exposed to continuous sun and wind have a much lower 40-50% germination. I have increased watering frequency to the exposed areas and maintained a light organic top dressing in an effort to keep moisture on these seeds continuously, but not overly wet. I called Hancock customer service a couple of times for advice. Very happy with the delivery, customer service and product quality. Thanks!

I have been using Hancock Seed for my deer plots for a few years now and getting great results. Not only is the product great but the staff is always friendly and return emails very quickly answering any questions I may have. I use the fall and winter blend the most but have also used the deer greens, killer clover, ultimate plot mix and the no till. The photos are results from the fall and winter blend.

Very knowledgeable of their products. Very helpful when talking on the phone. The only issue is when you leave messages there is no follow-up. I have to continue to call until I get someone to respond. Products have been great so far.

Holy smokes and I thought I was the only one who spend $90 dollars only to infest my whole yard with weeds. Quite honestly they sent the seeds in a brown bag the ones you find people drinking alcohol from with some cheesy Staples print out label that provides all the "proof" for Hancock's guarantee "0.01% weeds" yeah more like 0.01% grass and 99.99% weeds. I've sent my pictures to this girl named Tambra she kindly explained to me that in 24 hrs I will get a response. So I waited... and waited.... Little did I know a week later when I had insisted upon calling she finally remembered me and my case. (I'm not sure how many cases Hancock seeds has on their hands.. but either they are busy fixing all their screwed up fake sales, or they are just plain out ignoring me.) Well all in all I have to say this was a bad experience. Initially all the girls where very nice, placing my order was so easy, but thats just the beginning before the nightmare begins or should I say daymare. If you want a beautiful yard and want to save yourself some labor of re-doing your work please do yourself a favor and look else where. Cheers.

I have been planting Hancock Seed Company food plots for years on my farm . The seed always arrives on time and in great condition . From their custom mixes to their single seed varieties I couldn't be happier . There is a lot of time and work that go into planting successful food plots for wildlife . I choose Hancock seed because their products always perform great . I would rather have a bag of seed that produces than one with a picture of a big buck on it .

I purchased 10lbs of coated Argentine Bahia seed. I got 2 seperate bags labeled correct to my order. I had raked, removed weeds and even aerated the lawn. I opened one of the two bags & spread the seed (black/burgandy color round seed) then covered with 14 bags of Scott's Lawn Soil. Within days I noticed these sprouts were not grass. I opened the 2nd bag and the seeds were white and kinda flat seeds! Not like the 1st bag so I sent pics and questioned what these were. I described the color and shape of the seed in every email and they ignored the issue. They refunded my money and sent a corrected bag of grass seed. I was persitant to know what I have growing in my entire lawn and they finally sent me one picture and sure enough the one pic was seeds of purple top turnips. After finding out I had hundreds of thousands of purple top turnips infesting my lawn they told me to just rake them out since they had refunded me and gave me a correct bag of seed there wasn't anything else they could do. I called 10 lawn companies that came out and stated this had to be killed, removed and lay new sod or they declined to touch it. Hancock seed stated they are not in the sod business they are in the seed business. So I asked them to call and find a lawn business that would correct this. They got the same results I did so they sent me a jug of RoundUp and another bag of seed telling me to kill my lawn, rake it up and re-seed my lawn. I guess my time is of no importance or value to this company. This rejection of assistance came from one of the Hancock family members through email. She basically was telling me to just go away and deal with this on my own. So I guess there not in the sod business but they are in the RoundUp business... This company is a joke and has cost me 2 months of weekends to fix their mistake. Buy your seed elsewhere and save yourself the hassle of having to kill your lawn, rake it up and re-seed with even more lawn soil.

OMG do NOT get trapped by those criminals. They sell you seed which does not germinate, then they switch to all kind of excuses, one of it is having to be more patient and when summer is over none of their seed ever germinated. We bought grass seed from another company and the grass looks great. We just lost a lot of money and Hancock never refunded us.Bad - bad company, Better Business Bureau is full of complaints, not one positive feedback. Our mistake, we should have read reviews prior to investing money with them.

I planted this Princess 77 hybrid Bermuda in early May 2018. I called Hancock Seed and they said it was a quality seed. Shipping was fast and it was in stock when I ordered in April. I followed the instructions and used 1 pound per 1000 sf of seed. I broke a 5 lb bag down to 1 lb portions and put the seed in zip lock bags to make sure I got even coverage. My total lawn size is 5000 sf. The seed has a green coating making it easy to see where you put it. I lightly sprinkled peat moss on top. I'm in California and here is a photo from December 23 and it's still green. I had very good germination from the seed and any runners on the grass filled in the rest. I'm guessing when we get our first frost it will go brown. We have had between 37-59 degrees weather all month. Was fertilizing and watering over the summer. But, have not watered or mowed it now since late October. I was cutting it at 5/8" most of the summer. I would totally buy this seed again. Have received many compliments on the grass all summer long.

I browsed a little over a year ago, on Google, looking for some answers to an easy method of seeding my back, fairly steep yard, that also has some erosion. The thought stuck in my head to possibly use some Micro-Clover in some of the areas where erosion was happening and very hard for me to mow on a steeper slope.Hancock Seed came up, among others, and I decided to get a few texts from Hancock, every so often, during the past 1 1/2 years.Recently, due to the texts, I inquired with Hancock about my idea of clover via their website. Tarah Farkus readily emailed me regarding the type of grasses to use in my area and sent a link with a blend that had micro-clover included. I feel very confident about the blend. My next little situation was being sure that the seeds came while I was still home and not traveling. Abby, assured me that she would be on top of the order and I would receive the product a day or two prior to my departure. She also followed up with an email response to our telephone conversation. And yes, the seed came before I departed and we are super happy and will continue buying products from Hancock Farm and Seed. What a super family company! My amount of seed is very small in scope to what others may buy, but I was treated with the utmost consideration and respect! What a novelty! ;) Give them a try---and thank you again.

!!! BEWARE !! Hancock does not stand by their product and blames you if the seed doesn't germinate. Spent $2300 on seed. We did everything by the book. It's been 6 months since we put down a 'double' layer of Zoysia seed and our yard still looks horrible. After months of dealing with them, they continue to blame us for everything.

Bought 50lbs of fall winter Bermuda mix in February. To reseed in N Texas. Laid the seed then And it's July now and no signs of new Bermuda grass. Just rye popped up in the spring months. Hancock sold me mostly rye seed and few Bermuda seed. The Bermuda seed was expired. (Dead) no refund no nothing. 1/2 acre scarce and areas bare. It's a farse a gimmick to sell seed in winter when business is slow. Be careful buy elsewhere. 😠

Absolutely one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Started using them 4-5 years ago and everything was really good. Then a few years later things went south as they were always on back order or showed in stock and really wasn't. Thought I would give them another try and that is on me. Once again I called to make sure product was in stock and was told no problem. Ordered wild rice and on preparation slightly flooded my mud flats. Well go figure it never shipped and now they are out. Atrocious company to deal with. Wish you could give 0 stars.

I have used Hancock Farm & Seed a few times, and I always had great service with them. I buy wheat, barley and oats to mix with a home made feed for my chickens. I get a better result in the condition of my birds, and the taste of the eggs when I give the chickens a more natural feed rather than a processed store bought feed. They are my go to supplier.

I purchased seed for the first time from this company. I pretreated my pasture with lime 2 weeks in advance before planting. I sewed the seeds 1/4” just like I do every year and nothing sprouted. I will not be using this company again. I called and spoke to a girl about the issue and she blames it on environmental factors. That is not the case here. I can walk through my pasture and find unsprouted seeds.

I read good reviews on the Bermuda grass seeds- Coated & Unhulled. Watched videos on YouTube on how to over seed lawn. Dethatched lawn to remove weeds & dead grass. Followed steps listed on enclosed card. . Seeds didn’t germinate even watering lawn twice a day for 3 weeks.

This was my first experience with Hancock Farm and Seed Company. I'm a homeowner who has always maintained my own property. This was the first time I had over seeded an area with Hancock’s Argentine Bahia Grass Seed – Coated. With the help of an excellent customer service group at Hancock, I now have the knowledge I need to retry and improve on my first attempt. I'm grateful for their assistance and will use them in the future.

This company are scam artists. Look at the BBB complaints. There are a ton of them. There is going to be another one from me. I purchased the same seed from them twice. The first bag grew fine. The second bag would not grow at all. I filled out their return form which is a joke. They want pictures. Of What? I guess they don't know what dirt looks like? They want to know my watering schedule. I said it was watered as needed. It doesn't get any simpler than that. They sent me garbage seed and now want to blame it not growing on me. They are scam artist!!

Bahia seed does not germinate. Tried planting in May and June with no luck. Watered every day. You are better off purchasing Bahia sod and cutting up the pieces to repair areas. I will maybe try seeding in September but other than that so far this is just expensive bird seed.

Purchased $1,000 in pasture grass seed. Very little came up. Filed a claim with Hancock and asked twice for a phone call to discuss things. Never got a call but did get two very long emails explaining why it was reasonable that their seed did not come up, including it was too cold in coastal South Carolina in the summer for their seed to grow. It is clear this company knows they have quality issues with their products and has developed a skilled approach to deflection when claims are filed. The did offer me a 10% coupon presumably so that I could pay $900 for some more sterile seed. Guess I'll go to Tractor Supply for seed next time.

This place was awesome! Package was shipped 3 hours after ordering, and would have been delivered next day had UPS delivered when they said. The web site is easy to use, and ordering couldn't have been simpler for grass seed, and cheaper than any box store, plus it's local to me. If you need grass seed, this is as easy as it gets! Great job to the hard working people at Hancock Farms!!!

Great customer service and fast seed delivery. The centipede seed I bought was coated and took over 6 weeks to germinate, which was not a surprise given some cool weather here in South Carolina. Once the temps went up into the 70's the seed is growing nicely. I followed a proper soil prepping and kept the seed moist. The seed from Hancock seems to be a much better variety than anything from the big box stores, which I tried with bad results. I would recommend Hancock Seed Company for anyone looking for good quality seed. Just remember, prep the soil correctly. A little work will mean a successful lawn!

I planted the Hancock seeds fall and winter mix on September 2nd 2019. In our short fall season (western Massachusetts) that mix came up beautifully. I never had a soil test but the deer hammered it and continue to do so. I can't wait to purchase more for this spring and fall. The farmer said he had never seen more deer on his property than he had this past season! Their prices are very reasonable compared to the highly commercially pushed products. I did put 50lbs of soybeans down also, but I never had a soil test and there's been nothing planted in this plot in 30+ years, so I had 2-3% germination. It was also a very moist soil and the seeds turned mushy. I do not blame Hancock for this at all. Again I'm very excited for this upcoming growing season and purchasing more Hancock seeds food plot mixes.
