Southpaw Spa has a new owner groomer & we are thrilled she is here!!! The new owner, Hope, has been grooming our two mini schnauzers in St Pete for a while now. We chose not to go the traditional schnauzer hair cut with our pups and while Hope can do a great traditional cut she listened & did exactly what we requested. The dogs love her & they come out just the way we like every time she grooms them! We just moved from St Pete to Safety Harbor and we would have drove them anywhere to keep Hope as their groomer! We are so thrilled that she is now the owner of Southpaw Spa in Clearwater & she is so close to us now! I can’t say enough great things about Hope. I think you’ll be happy if you give her a try🤗

The new owner of Southpaw is not only a great groomer but also very understanding and compassionate. My grandmother has dementia and when my grandfather passed their dogs fell into the background, and the result was needing a groom- BADLY. Covered in matts, very very dirty, and couldn’t see through the hair growth on their faces. I explained how badly they were in need of a groom and she scheduled ASAP for me to bring them in. She was very understanding and kind about their condition, didn’t make us feel embarrassed or uncomfortable, and the end result was two very old crusty and dirty dogs getting comfort grooms - as they were truly uncomfortable before - while still managing to come out of it looking “cute”. We’re very happy with the service and although we will NEVER wait this long to bring them in for a groom again… we will be back to Southpaw Spa. Thanks Hope!

This is a fabulous place for your pet children. They are caring, talented and passionate about their jobs. It shows in their care and how your pet looks . My deuce loved it so much . Very disappointed.. if I could give zero stars, I would. Today was my first and last time at Southpaw Spa and my poor 14 year old Yorkie is a disaster. When I picked him up, the owner said he did great and everything went well.First, I noticed he smelt like cologne which irritated me because I specifically said he can ONLY have the medicated shampoo that I brought on his skin (due to skin allergies). So, now he’s itching in my car like crazy. Wonderful. Well.. seconds after he started scratching, I noticed his facial hair was completely uneven.. not a HUGE deal but still.. another irritating moment before I even left the business parking lot.When I got home, I went to go grab my scissors so I could trim the right side of his face and he wouldn’t let me touch his face (which is odd, he’s never weird with me touching any part of him).. when I looked closer at his mouth area, I noticed there is a nice size chunk missing out of my dogs tongue. He doesn’t have teeth so there’s no way he bit it off himself. It’s clearly a hair clipper chunk and has remnants of blood in the wound so clearly it must have bled. I felt horrible for him.. so I sat him on my lap and began petting him.. I look down at his head, and his ENTIRE head is all uneven along with various spots on his body.. and I can’t help but cry because we’re supposed to do pictures in two days.. my dog looks like a complete mess, he’s old and is probably traumatized, itching non-stop to the point that I needed to bathe him AGAIN, and now he won’t drink water or eat his food because of his tongue lesion.I will absolutely never go here again. What irritates me the most is that the owner wasn’t transparent with me about what happened and did not follow my restrictions on his grooming care needs. Terrible service. I would never leave my dog in their care again.. you’ve all been warned. 😪 (didn’t get pictures of his uneven face because I wasn’t even going to leave a review but all of these issues combined sent me over the edge. I’m beyond pi**ed.)

Took our Shih Tzu puppy Violet for her first grooming. Was so pleased when we got her back she was so clean and beautiful. Melanie did a great job understanding and executing the look we were going for. Needless to say she'll be the regular groomer going forward very lucky to have found Southpaw Spa. Highly recommend. Update: New owner Hope is just as good servicing Violet.

This place is amazing!!! I am a first time customer. I took my dog Sadie there because I read the positive reviews. I was not disappointed. Sadie is a very nervous dog, and hates having her nails and ears cleaned. The owner is super nice and was the one who calmed my poor, nervous nutcase down and gave her top level service. I would strongly recommend taking your dogs to get groomed here. It was worth every penny. Thank you!!

This is the only place to get your animals groomed at! Mel is wonderful with our animals, they love her! Great prices, perfect every time. She is like family to us and the dogs!! She was recommend it to us and we recommend her to anyone else!

If I could give a 0 I would. This place hacked up my King Charles Cavalier. He was shaved down to his skin (which we do like him short but not bald) also he had scraps under both arms. You can see where they stopped all over his body and its uneven all over him. If you cant handle this kind of dog then you should really let people know. I am extremely upset about how my boy came home yesterday. We are now looking for another groomer ASAP.EDIT: I got a call from the owner and she said she will go a blade up and it will be free. I might give her one more shot, as I understand things can happen but I keep looking at the pictures of my boy and I just feel like I don't know if I can but I will talk to the hubs and see but for now, I stand by my current review until I see the change in my baby boy if we go back. I will say I do accept her apology and appreciate the offer. I'll post if we go, as I said and make sure to retract my review in whatever might happen.

I'm so disappointed. A year ago I rated this place 5 star. Not anymore. I left my little dog for a full grooming. I picked him up 3 hours later. At first sight, I didn't notice but once home I saw his ear had been cut, along with part of his tail and one of his nails was literally pulled out! He's a rescue and suffered a lot before I adopted him. It was as if I had left him in the hands of an ofender again. He was very agressive and nervous the next two days. And Southpaw didn't have the decency to tell me what had happened...so sad.

Groomer, I believe she was the owner, did an excellent job on my pup. It was our first time with her and we will for sure be back. Her prices were about $10 more than we used to pay at our previous groomer, but worth the higher quality and shorter distance from our home.

I have known Mel for two years,she has groomed my poodle at Countryside vet and when she opened on Drew St. I have had my chihuahua Casey bathed every two weeks.She treats Casey like her own.I wouldn’t have anyone besides Mel,she is always friendly and pleasant and Casey loves her.I would highly recommend her to anyone that loves her pet like I love mind!!!
