If you’re looking for a bird to add to your family and are in FL please go see birds of paradise. The coordinators were extremely knowledgeable and patient with me. All the birds here are so lovely and full of personality. I finally decided on a green ring neck and I am absolutely full of love and so happy I was able to give him his forever home.

I had to take two budgies there tearfully that I developed breathing issues with, from owning them.I spent 3 months talking singing abs playing sift music to.But they were unhappy. We think they missed their friends. We bought from a pet shop. We never ever do this And regretted it.They were terrified of coming out if their huge cage neverthelessWe tried and tried. Picking them up was out of the question. They started to need to fly and one started getting angry with the other. It was distressing to see. They knew my voice and responded but not enoughTo get them to trust me to touch or coax them out of the cage. Then i started having to use my inhaler a lot.’We kept that cage immaculate.Even so.We were guided to Birds of Paradise that was an amazing sanctuary for all sorts of birds.I was assured they would end up in a big aviary with lots of friends again. And live out the rest of their lives Happily there.I donated and will donate in future. The parrots were incredible too. They rely on donations. If you are a bird lover please please donate. They are by appointment only to go there. It’s a relief to know they will be somewhere safe and happy.

I had a very tough personal situation and Debbie was more than understanding and cared for my birds until I could get them back. This is a rescue that is NOT just here for money. She does what is in the bird's best interest and does not just adopt them out to anyone just because they have money. She has over 250 birds, only 6 are up for adoption and they're less than $500 a piece so anyone who thinks she is in this for money is crazy. She is not rude at all, she is very professional and doesn't mince words. She was very easy to reach and stayed in communication with me. Great place and great woman.

Debbie (BOPS owner) stole a macaw from a man stuck in the hospital. The macaws owner had to contact FWC to finally get his bird back once he was released. Debbie deleted all evidence of this online. She’s also deleted older one star reviews from people who’ve adopted sick birds from her with evidence. Please be careful adopting or leaving your parrots here.

Awesome place. Debbie has a heart of gold. Not only does she take in sick and/or injured birds but, also, tries to find them forever homes. That takes alot of attention & dedication. It is a wonderful place to take kids & grandkids. Staff are polite, knowledgeable, & respectful. They are always looking for volunteers & donations. Birds live a LONG time. Many FL seniors will get a bird & sadly, pass away. Debbie takes these birds in. Many can be adopted through her.

I visited Bird of Paradise, today. Debby, the owner, did not have any help, today, but still all the water bowels and food were clean with fresh water and food. The aviaries were clean and the birds looked healthy and happy. Most of the aviaries are spacious and allow the parrots to fly and have fun. Aviaries were full with all sorts of perches and toys. I was very impressed. Thank you Debbie for the great job you are doing and helping all the parrots in need!

The parrots are so well cared for and completely loved by the volunteers and everyone involved in running this facility. Their compassion and knowledge for these beautiful birds is endless.

Today my Daisy Mae went to live her life out at BOPS. Debbie’s love and dedication is ever-present in this magical place that houses (and loves) those who have been abused, forgotten, or through no fault of their own lost their homes (owner to illness or death). The birds are all well fed, secure, watered and enriched with natural sunlight, toys and each other. These bright and intelligent birds are loved and spoiled until their days are up. Some of the “pet quality” birds are even adopted out to loving homes where they are treasured. Thank you to Debbie and her small army of volunteers who make this all possible. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Our 11-year old daughter is obsessed with birds and wants to go into ornithology so we contacted BOP to see if we could meet their beautiful birds. They did not disappoint! Debbie showed us around and went above and beyond to give our daughter an experience she will never forget. Highly recommend.

Wonderful people and beautiful birds with different stories that have been rescued. Went for a first visit and will be going back to see if one of the birds will take a liking to us. Its a nice property and sanctuary. A learning experience

A group of teens and I went to volunteer here on 3/18/21, to make enrichment toys for the birds. We had an amazing time! We received a tour of the different areas and learned so much about the birds, their needs and how unique they are. The volunteers were knowledgable and made us feel valued as volunteers. This sanctuary does AMAZING work and if you have a chance to visit and learn more, please do so!

Unfortunately I don’t have a happy ending. Recently some stray cats knock my bird cage over and my birds flew off and sad part they had 3baby parakeet & I spent all morning contacting a lot of rescue and veterinarian to see who can care for them since they were under 1week old. I was recommended here and unfortunately they were out of town but they tried their best to direct me to another place until they come back and it didn’t go to well since the places she recommended me to try was so called bird specialist was false. Monday came around and two parakeet didn’t make it but one did and finally took them here, I can tell she was upset when I told here what those other places said to me. Tbh I seen the negative reviews here and I can say it’s nothing but lies because unlike other birds rescues she took them in and I hope it makes it through, I’m thankful that she tried to help me .The so call rude lady isn’t what they say she is. She’s very nice and helpful and I’m grateful to be recommended here. Thank you Birds of Paradise for taking the bird in and helping me.

Saw the peacock comments and just had to laugh. Some people see them as nuisance and others as a beautiful bird. Yet others are afraid of them.I know Birds of Paradise Sanctuary well. Debbie and her team are the most caring and compassionate people I have ever met. The parrots are so healthy and content... her model should be used for other sanctuaries.Kudos to you and your team Debbie. Keep up the good work. And bless you for the work you do on behalf of these innocent birds.

I called to get hours to go visit and adopt a bird. I got SUCH ATTITUDE from the woman on the phone. I asked what the hours were and she was VERY rude!!! I am in the customer service Industry and would NEVER give my business or money to a company like this. I will find another bird rescue place to adopt. On top of it , the website shows all current birds that are available to adopt at least 10 African Grays were on the list. When I asked her (very nicely) if she had them she AGAIN was very rude and told me no. It’s fine if you don’t but the attitude and lack of good customer service AUTOMATICALLY gives you a low rating. I will take my business elsewhere

Owner very rude when we called but we were going to give it a chance, came in to see the birds and she told us we were gonna kill the birds because perfume is toxic which we own 3 birds and are aware and NEITHER one of us had on any perfume. That’s not how you do business.

I met Debbie today and turned over a Greenwing macaw I had rescued. I was allowed access to walk through and see all the beautiful birds She cares for. All their bowls were tended to and all the birds appeared content. I greatly appreciate people like Her because without them, these gorgeous birds who didnt ask to be here wouldnt have a safe haven to call home. Thankyou for what you do Debbie and I look forward to offering my time to help out when I can.

I sent them an Email pleading the case of a Military Macaw I inherited which I was not in a position to care for properly. I received a confirmation saying I would get a response within 72 hrs. That was about six months ago, I've heard nothing from them. They seem to have the promotional and fund raising part down pretty good, but to me they were no help at all, Donor beware.

My spouse and I had a personal tour with a woman that daily cares for, and knows, those birds - many of them are quite intelligent & can live for decades(!). Some of the oldest had 1 owner, and were well cared for until their owner died, then faced abandonment/hard times; tragic, heartbreaking. Some have been abused and must be carefully handled by staff, but not visitors.

Would like to know how much of the donations go to the owners life style. She doesn't work and eat out all the time, constantly seeing her at expensive restaurants..

The peacocks should not have free range access. Its causing traffic interference and adjacent property’s are being used by these birds just roaming around on neighboring houses, vechiles, barns and livestock. These non native birds should be pinned.

I've been volunteering here for about a week now and the place is wonderful to be around. The birds have dynamic and complex personalities and they're a delight to be around.

Do not send your birds to this place do not the lady is a big liar only for donations and money .I called her today to set up apt for adoption she quoted in on the funeral of my father then my husband called her today she quoted im on my way to ketch a flight. Poor scams to make money thru innocent creatures

This "sanctuary" facilitates the release of non native species into rural areas. Edit* Just so were clear, your response is that it's perfectly acceptable to charge people money to have the birds relocated to your facility, only to release them into the wild and allow them to freely roam neighboring properties where they're unwanted and a huge nuisance. Got it.

I just started volunteering here. They really love the birds, and do everything they can for them. So if you're thinking about getting a bird, check here and see if there is someone to love .
