Believe this is a Kriger brand store. Reminds me of it from back home. Here you have every grocery you need at decent price plus some toiletries and things.Cleanliness and modernness of the store is low.

Short stay in DC was able to find everything we needed for the Apartment we stayed at.. breakfast items. Store had security. Easy and self check out register. Dairy section had a missing door?

If I could rate this store below a one star I would. The manager was disgustingly rude, I asked her were there any available bathrooms because the 1 stall that is available for the whole store was DISGUSTING!! Poop everywhere, urine everywhere, no napkins. Feces were on the toilet paper. My question is, if there are no bathrooms available, how are the employees washing their hands properly?? I cannot believe a manager was so rude at a Safeway, especially at this location. I’m so disappointed and taken aback by the lack of customer service. Thursday February 1st was the evening that I crossed the person that makes me feel comfortable shopping here. Such a shame. This part is an edit: because I’m thinking of calling corporate. I’m really beyond offended by being treated so nastily, especially when I was kind and obviously in distress. And to be treated so nasty and greeted with energy like that makes me wonder how someone like this got promoted to run a store with such intimidating and hurtful behavior.

Not a fun experience. Easy spot to grab paper towels or basics in the city but if you are looking for food, I recommend walking the block or two to Streets or YES market. This location is always crazy and the lines are always long. I tend to avoid this location if I can.

I was shopping at this Safeway today around 1:30pm EST. I went to self checkout with a few groceries and gift cards to buy--gift cards that were in a display that was attached to the self checkout area. I had come to the store specifically to buy gift cards for teachers. After scanning my groceries, I tried to scan the gift cards, but a screen popped up saying I'd need help. A male customer service associate came over immediately and said he'd get someone to help me because he didn't have the ability to help me with the gift cards. He was really kind and courteous, and quick and I heard him immediately ask the female customer service representative for help. Several minutes later, the female customer service representative came over. I told her I needed to buy gift cards and she told me those could only be purchased at customer service and I would have to wait 15 minutes if I wanted to do that because she wasn't at the customer service desk. I told her that I couldn't wait 15 minutes because my toddler was with me (I had already been holding up the kiosk for more than 5 minutes). She looked at me blankly, didn't say please or thank you, or apologize, and walked away. I decided I wouldn't buy the gift cards, so I tried to pay for my groceries, but the screen was still on the "wait for associate" setting. I motioned her to come back. I said a single sentence to her, other than asking her to clear the screen: I said "I don't know why these cards are being advertised as a part of self-checkout if I can't buy them here." At that point, she shouted at me, in front of my toddler and multiple customers, and sharply said, "M'am, I told you you'd have to wait 15 minutes." And then stormed off. She embarrassed me in front of my child and in front of other customers. I left without buying the gift cards and will take my gift card business elsewhere.I understand and appreciate that customer service is a difficult job, and I have had good experiences at the Safeway I normally go to, which was not this one. However, I do not understand why someone is working in customer service if she can't say please, sorry or thank you, and most importantly, if she can't engage with customers in a respectful manner. She cut me off, yelled at me, showed no awareness of (or care for) how she was acting in front of a child. Even if there was no way for her to help me for 15 minutes, the interaction would have been completely different had she been nice. And I might have tried to wait with my toddler if I felt like I wasn't going to continue to be treated disrespectfully. I encourage you to train your associates--this one in particular--to behave in a respectful way. And perhaps don't put gift cards in the self checkout aisle if people can't buy them there....

There are some nice human touches to this place, like when the manager sings happy birthday to some random soul, but as a supermarket it falls far short of the mark. Poor inventory, disorganized, often lacking in essential items (no tangerines and few baked breads today) are too often the norm. And for at least six months, the exit door didn't work. This place needs to up its game.

At this store, the vibe is cold, much like the meat that's not properly sold. Rude staff meet you at the door, while spoiled goods are a common lore. The produce, though, it's somewhat fine, but from the floor, it often dines. So, wash it well, if in your cart it lands. In a pinch, it's okay, but not the best of plans. If you seek a better feast, Harris Teeter's down the road at least. A brighter choice with less despair, for quality food handled with care.

This Safeway is generally standard in its quality, but Roman, the staff member, provides above-and-beyond customer service every time I see him. He goes out of his way to make me feel welcome and celebrated. He is extraordinarily kind, helpful, and excellent at his job!

I want to like this Safeway since it’s so convenient and in my neighborhood but I am consistently disappointed with my experience. The inventory is consistently low, with many of the products I am looking for out of stock. The shelves are disorganized and many of the items were expired or near expiry. The store is also quite dirty, with spills and debris on the floor and dust on the shelves. Many items, such as all Tide products are locked up front and require a manager key. I waited about a half hour to get laundry detergent. Overall, I would not recommend this Safeway location to anyone looking for a clean and well-stocked grocery store.

Ramon is the kindest staff I’ve ever seen on any Safeway! I’m glad to run into him and his top-notch attention every time I come here!

Love coming down here to the fish market. Also, I am pleasantly surprised at events that I see down there from concerts to film viewings. My favorite is the water taxi. I keep a season pass!

I give this Safeway four stars because it has a pretty good produce section, with a nice selection of fruits and vegetables. A 2-lb. bag of kale for $4.99 at an everyday price is a nice deal. There are lots of bunched leafy green options for folks who like to cook these things, e.g., chard, spinach, kale. The store boasts a very good selection of tropical fruits, as well as a wide array of frozen and non-frozen fake meat products. Frozen seafood options for things like pastas and other dishes are also good (e.g., scallops, shrimp, squid). Self-checkout works pretty well, and, there is always a staff member on hand to assist with any issues. Use a Safeway membership card for extra savings. The store is rarely crowded; another plus.

It's walkable from my residence and has a reasonable selection of products. The space is limited for the amount of customers they serve, but it's current configuration is the best it's been in the last 20 years. As of May 2023 there continues to be more updating and renovations by adding new refrigerated shelves that are more organized and easier to see what's on the shows. The choices for certain product lines seems to be paired down in what appears to be an attempt to stock more product in general. Some of that process is confusing, like the fact that they have stopped carrying any type of raw sugar, but have 3 shelves of artificial sweeteners.

Came in late, found most of what I needed, and got out. The one associate I was able to locate was very confused by my request for powdered lemonade, finally telling me they didn't have it. I'm a little skeptical. 🤔

Horrible attitude by the Deli lady. (The one with really short afro). I was super nice asking for some salad, she was SO unwilling to do it, it was something else. It made me feel uncomfortable as if I asked for something incredibly difficult. There was no one else and it was 5pm. She told me to grab the alreade prepared one, and I said I couldn't because I was shopping for someone else and 0.7 lbs was too much, I needed 0.5lbs. She proceeds to give me 0.65lbs, and when I said thank you so much, she mocked be (clearly) by saying "you're welcome so much". I don't know who hurt her, but she shouldn't be working any job that requires customer interaction. Wouldn't be shopping there ever again

Very nice grocery store. The team is really friendly and professional. I was there yesterday, and heard how a employee was asking to an elderly person, if everything is alright. Very human and nice. And a great choice of products.

The checkout double charged me for an item as I was paying, I'd finished scanning about 20 seconds before that. It literally added the charge after I had already used my credit card. After ten minutes the manager refunded me in cash and some particularly gross change.

I work late and this Safeway is right on my walk home so I try to grab a couple things for my morning or weekends here sometimes.I am always met with terrible attitudes by the night managers, express checkout clerks and the contracted security workers as soon as I walk in. I never feel welcome. People who come in around closing are made to feel like they are burdening store staff. Most recently. I arrived 11mins before the store closed and I was prevented from entering the establishment by security. When I tried to walk in, the manager told the security guard to carry me out and that they were "closed". I was also told "10mins isn't enough time to shop for anything anyway".I was then physically removed by the security contractor and kicked out from the store simply for wanting to pick up some eggs and milk.In the time they spent making excuses as to why I can't enter, being incredibly unprofessional, and verbally and physically abusive to me. I would have walked in and left with the items I wanted. The night managers/employees, and security seem very bitter, and vindictive. They abuse their power and free-will constantly. Locking the doors as early as 15mins before the business actually closes.Clearly these Safeway employees do not care for or understand what "customer service" actually means. When "on the clock" personal issues should not affect one's ability to render the services for which they are employed.I finally decided to write this review today because I was shopping there tonight and was inside the store this time. I witnessed the manager telling the security guard to lock the doors and there were 2 people outside who wanted to shop, it was still 10:50PM.Either the official time on the website needs to be changed from closing at 11PM to 10:50PM, or night managers/staff need to be reprimanded, re-trained, and coached how to properly conduct customer service.I am very surprised Safeway General Management/Corporate continues to allow this type of behavior to occur within its establishment. Customers who want to spend money in your stores should not be treated so terribly regardless of how close the store is to closing.

For a small, not updated neighborhood store it still delivers and always has what I need. The staff has always been very helpful to me and my guests and I really appreciate their support, service, smiles and efforts to stock my small but cozy one bedroom apartment with everything we need whenever we need it! I walk to the store almost everyday I think because the staff has been so nice! Oh and for the price, the best meats in the city!

Safeway isn't my normal go-to for groceries, especially meats 😒, but this particular store has always felt nice and cozy; it's almost like a neighborhood bodega. The workers are great and the meat selection AT THIS STORE has never done me wrong.

Although it is much smaller with less products than the nearby Harris Teeter, this Safeway is possibly a better place to shop. The prices are not as inflated and it has everything that you would want from a grocery store. Unless you have specific needs, shop here if money is an issue. Its clean, friendly, and the lines move quickly.

Decently well stocked with fair prices, but they seem to have gotten rid of their entire kosher section and no employee I asked seemed to have even heard of the word kosher. There was no explanation as to why the sign at the end of one of the aisles still says kosher and no acknowledgement that there had ever been a kosher section from anyone I asked.

I have been shopping at this Safeway for about a year now. It is conveniently located but that is the only positive and the only reason I go.The staff (with the exception of one of two employees) is very unhelpful and generally apathetic.Their prices are higher than they should be considering most of their produce is not great quality and the store is often unorganized, and does not have a wide selection.I frequently have to wait more than 10 minutes just to check out because they don’t have enough registers open and the lines are always moving slowly.I really wish the staff here was more friendly so my shopping experience would be more enjoyable.

The transformation of the Safeway in my neighborhood has been both helpful and inspiring. The selection has become far healthier, the deals have gotten much better, the prices more reasonable. The staff is always helpful. And check out their Monopoly game. I won 3 free mo ths of Peacock streaming plus some great savings! Keep it up, Safeway!

Unsafe workplace. I went in and they were working on the ceiling above an elderly cashier's head and the ladder had her blocked in so she could not exit. I informed customer service. One of the 2 guys with the ladder said he was hoping the cashier would not notice (he thought he was joking, but safety is not a joke).

While the staff is nice and the selection solid, it is so overpriced. I save about 30% when I'm willing to walk 10 minutes in any direction for a more affordable option.

Employees seem extremely miserable. Either they are playing on the phone, avoiding customer interaction - I am not sure what the problem is.My visit was in the evening and I waited 20 minutes for the deli (and employee was there but didn’t acknowledge me .) Once he completed the order before mine, he barely spoke to me.Poor customer service, a store that could be a bit more organized - overall disappointing.
