The best groomers in the city, hands down. They always do an incredible job. They listen to our requests, long chest mane, short paws/nails, etc., and follow through. Great attention to detail, care of our boy, and he smells amazing!I'll admit I tried a slightly cheaper place and was very disappointed, total hack job. Artful dog grooming truly is a skill and Masterpiece is easily worth it. Grateful I found them.

I called ahead about coming in late/close to their closing time for a quick nail trim, and the person I spoke with was very friendly and accommodating. When I arrived, they were welcoming and the service was fast. They did super well with my dog, who usually has a tough time with nail trims. I will definitely be back!

One of the best pet spas I’ve come across. This was my dogs first time for a full grooming and she’s a sensitive pup.This spa has the best bespoke service that works with dogs like her. Gives them extra time, love and attention. No cages or waiting.The entire process from scheduling to picking up my dog was great.

I cannot say enough great things about Masterpiece Canine Spa! I especially love their no crating/waiting practice, which makes it a lot less stressful for my dog and much easier for me to time pickup/drop off. I also love that the groomer always lets me know 20 minutes before I need to pick him up. This is so different than other groomers I’ve gone to in the area that require 2-4 hour windows (sometimes longer) where he is essentially in a cage for hours until his grooming appointment, and then only call me to come get him when he is already back in a cage post-grooming. Rachel is so wonderful to work with making scheduling a breeze and she is always very transparent about pricing. It is more expensive than some other groomers in the area but worth every penny. I am so sad that they had to move away from their H St NE location!

My experience with Masterpiece was wonderful from start to finish. My large, older fluffy Alaskan Malamute/Great Pyrenees looks years younger and at least 5 lbs lighter! And she was happy as a clam. Rachel was so communicative and got us in for an appointment quickly! Smooth process for pick up and drop off and reasonable prices for the quality of work! Looking forward to bringing my dog Rory here regularly and trust that Rachel and her crew will always handle her with the best care.

My dog loved his spa experience so much that he kept closing his eyes and leaning into it. When he came out he was super happy and his coat was beautifully groomed, his nails were neatly manicured, and he smelled amazing. Anthony was so good with my pup and sent updates and photos throughout the grooming session to keep me informed. Love that my pup came out wearing a cute seasonal bandana and grinning from ear to ear. We will definitely be back!

The absolute best dog groomers ever! They always do an incredible job with my Pomeranian. She's never afraid to be groomed, and always comes out of the salon happy and looking amazing. No-one does a job as good as Masterpiece Canine Spa. They're also super nice people and I know they have the pet's best interest at heart.

I took my dog in for a groom last week. Abby and her team were easy to schedule with, were responsive and did a GREAT job. I liked that they notified me when my dog was almost ready.The pricing is pretty comparable to other salons in the area. The service is top notch though and you can tell Abby really takes pride in what she does. My dog looks great! We will come back soon.

Our goldendoodle and standard poodle always look amazing after their grooms at masterpiece. We always get compliments and get asked where they go! Staff is very communicative and professional. The best grooming place in DMV and I’ve been to many.

My dog Benny is usually a fairly decent furry client, but definitely gets nibbly around the paws. Our groomer was so patient and really listened to everything I had to say. I love the drop off and pickup process. Benny can be quite fearful of other dogs so I loved knowing he wouldn’t be stressed by being surrounded by tons of other dogs before and after being groomed. He looks totally adorable, I’m going to use photos from today as examples of what I want in the future. Our groomer was so kind to him. It’s definitely on the upper end of what grooming can cost but it’s SO worth it. Not only are the staff being fairly compensated, you can see the result of having really well trained personnel. Our groomer noticed a tiny scab on Benny’s leg and sent me a closeup photo. I had already known about this but it was so comforting to know he was in such careful, caring hands. I can’t recommend this place enough!

I’m happy that google allows one to update and edit their review. I feel this is necessary to as the business owner’s reply is full of half-truths and glaring omissions. At best this is an angry unprofessional attempt to defend her business. At worse this is an attempt to bully me to remove my review.“Your dog arrived at his first visit with some of the worst matting we’ve ever seen, and because of his lack of regular grooming, his behavior was a danger to himself and his groomer. It took three of our very experienced groomers to work with him to safely shave him down”I explained when I dropped Kandahar off that he was out of my possession for a short period of time in a woodland area where he became quickly matted. I also explained to you that I had a hospitalization and as soon as I returned home and saw his condition had an emergency vet visit to shave him down as much as she could. I spent over 2 hours post hospitalization on the floor soothing him as we worked together over two hours to get him as best we could. We both agreed however we should get him professionally shaved down. The regular spots were booked so I began a city-wide search so I could get him as groomed as quickly as possible. I live in upper NW, a groomer in CapHill is not ideal but wanted the quickest appointment available.“It took three of our very experienced groomers to work with him to safely shave him down”. When I first consulted you, I told you that my dog is very dog adverse and suggested that I give a dose of Trazadone. You stated you wanted to “see how he does without it”. Despite my best judgment I went along with this suggestion at the time because it seemed like you knew what you were doing. It seems like that was a mistake on both my part and yours.When I picked him up you made no mention of his behavioral problems and seemed eager to book another appointment with him. Given that he looked fairly good (despite a few nicks) and the ease of rebooking I booked another appointment. If I would have known of the trouble and severe stress you put him under, I would have insisted on pre medication.Because of the difficulties planning around your “express care” policy of having to immediately pick up I moved onto using the grooming service at the place where he boards.Despite your hubris in assuming that “Boarding facilities very rarely blow dry and brush out a dog post bath, dogs are normally washed and towel dried which leads to immediate matting,” it is not simply the case of the facility I take him to. They have full grooming and styling equipment and options ranging from a simple bath to a “spa” day where the pup is groomed styled and given a full massage.In addition, had you asked, yes, he is groomed regularly. He’s brushed daily or every other day if busy. I reached out to you “4 months later,” as my schedule is all over the place and because of the popularity of the place I take him too I was having trouble finding a day when I could bring him in. Because I understand the importance of regular grooming, I did attempt to book an appointment with you again in the hopes you had something available when I could come in.I quickly learned that was a mistake. After mulling it over and learning that you allowed my dog to be unnecessarily stressed not once but twice without my knowledge, I wrote the original review and posted it. I should have been more detailed ,but the fact that my puppy was unduly stressed was too much.Finally, your parting shot of “We are unwilling to allow your dog to hurt our groomer or himself because grooming is not fun or routine for him and is actually a painful experience because of the extreme neglect of his coat,” seems to be specifically written to shame to make me appear a horrible dog dad who doesn’t care for my dog. Perhaps this is an attempt to get me to remove the one star review?How would you know the status of his coat? In fact, he had a vet visit today where the vet commented that he was pretty and good looking without any issues.

I have a nervous, anxious dog who hates grooming but walked out of here looking great and in a good mood. I could add that they're timely, pleasant and efficient, but a happy dog for me is what makes this the best groomer around.

Masterpiece is a wonderful service. Most appointment take 1 hour.Abbey is excellent with anxious dogs. My. Dog Gomes in nervous and becomes out prancing. The only downside is the neighborhood. Between construction, small streets were torture for the navigationally- challenged.

It has taken me almost 2 full years to write this review because I was too emotional to revisit the incident. It was just too painful to talk about. However, as time has passed, I realized that if I can warn people and stop just one person from experiencing what I did at this groomer, it is worth rehashing the pain. I had an 11 year old Samoyed. I had been regularly getting him groomed once a month in New Jersey where I lived. I moved to Washington D.C. in October of 2020 and chose to take him to Masterpiece based on the reviews that were available on here. The day I dropped him off, I explained to the staff that he had bad hips and his groomers just take their time with him to not add stress on his hips. Despite his age and his hip wear and tear, Harley was an active, healthy, puppy-like dog. When I came to pick him up after his grooming that day, they walked him out and he just collapsed. He couldn’t move. I had never seen him this way. They offered to carry him to my car. I knew this was not an option as he needed immediate treatment. He had no function in his back legs. The owner then carried him to her car and took him to the hospital. Because he couldn't walk and just laid immobile for days, he developed pneumonia and died two days later. Masterpiece includes a pet safety release form that guarantees they will cease grooming procedures if there is a “threat to your dog’s emotional or physical health.” They failed to do this that day, and it cost my dog his life and me, my best friend. I urge you to steer clear of this groomer.

I love this place! They really care about the pups and they are crate free. The turn around is really quick. Because they don’t have a lot of space, they will text or call and ask you to pick up your furry friend as soon as possible when they’re done... so you can’t drop them off and go too far. My dog always smells so good, and the shed-free treatment they use is really good and lasts a good week or so. They also are just really friendly and easy-going. You can see all the grooming happen right when you walk in. I highly recommend!

The best dog grooming spa in Washington DC by a mile. They treat your dog as if she were their own. No cages are ever used and the place is a clean, sparking new facility. The quality of the work is superb - your dog gets their full attention the whole time she’s there (remarkable really). In 40 years of taking my dogs to groomers, this is by far the best grooming salon I’ve used and the first time ever my dog looked forward to getting groomed. Rachel and Abby love dogs and it shows in their dedication to providing the best experience for your pet. Masterpiece Canine Spa is simply the best..better than all the rest (tip of the hat to Tina Turner). You will not be disappointed - rather you’ll be in love with what they do to make your puppy clean, beautiful and happy.

When our dog passed away, the owner Abby sent the most thoughtful gift of a small painting of our pup, which we will cherish forever. Masterpiece, the owner and employees are unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful to its patrons. More importantly, their grooming services are overrated and overpriced. Safe your earned cash, you will not enjoy the service, and neither will your pet. Today I had a grooming service for my dog. Due to unforeseen circumstances (thunderstorm and rain, which my pet dislikes immensely), I was running late and received a call from Masterpiece, and was rudely told that if I could not arrive within 15 minutes of my appointment, I needed to turn around and will get charged for the total amount. No matter how nicely I pleaded that the owner resorts to the business backup protocol to give my dog a trim, it was refused without an explanation. RememberI reserved and paid for 2 hours, and my dog was refused. This is unprofessional, distasteful, and outrageous. At the end of the day, as an owner of a dog and a business person, I fully expect that my dog and I are treated professionally and compassionately. The treatment I received was unexpected and surprising for a retail business and pet grooming service provider.Do yourself and other owners a favor by not using their service. The groomers are a hit and miss; sometimes, you get good grooming, but more often, your pet receives a less than satisfactory grooming, and if you return for a grooming correction, you are discouraged. I will never return and let everyone in the neighborhood know how unprofessional this business, owner, and employees act.

I'm so happy I found Masterpiece Canine Spa! I took my lab there today for the first time. She was in and out in 45 minutes (she only needs a bath and brush). Prior to the appointment, I got a detailed text with drop-off and COVID-precautions procedures. Same with pickup. It couldn't have been easier. The best part is that Masterpiece grooms your animal from start to finish, so the dogs aren't waiting for hours in between phases of grooming or sitting in a crate for a blow dry. At pick up, I got a report about how my pup did. I'm a big fan! Thank you!

I love Masterpiece and it's people! I have an unsocialized puppy because of all the covid stuff happening. This was her first time getting a bath and nails trimmed at a saloon. She was definitely nervous at the beginning but Rachel informed me, via text during the appointment, that she had calmed down and was doing well! That eased my mind! And I'm so thankful that they really care about the dogs feelings too! The car pick up and drop off was super easy and I'm happy to know everyone is able to stay safe and healthy! Thank you!!!

Overall we really like it! Our dog is really scared of grooming but he seems less nervous at this place, he always comes out looking really great. Before covid, they let you wait for your dog...which I appreciate. The only thing is they have a really strict late policy and they don't budge on this. I've only been late once and it was totally by accident because I'd gotten a new phone that I didn't know how to use and didn't see the notifications come in. I felt really bad, but I get it. Their space is super small. They're more expensive than your average groomer too. If you have a finicky and sensitive dog I think it's worth checking out!

They are so lovely and kind! Completely worth the money. We have been taking our pup here since we got her. She is a rescue who is pretty guarded and reactive with other dogs and they have always worked to make her (and us) feel completely safe and confident. They recently had her in same day for a paw issue and didn't even charge us for the consultation. Sweet, Competent, Thorough!

I can't recommend Masterpiece Canine Spa enough for nervous animals. My pit mix has brittle nails that crack if we cut them, so she gets a bath and a mani-pedi with Anthony every month to make sure that she isn't in pain walking on overgrown or split nails. My dog doesn't do great with other dogs, so the one on one attention that she gets at Masterpiece really puts my mind at ease. When I originally called to set up an appointment, they matched me with Anthony specifically because he has a pit mix of his own and is an expert in working with my dog's unique temperament. We got into grooming right at the beginning of the pandemic, and this has been he one space where I don't have to be afraid leaving my anxious dog in someone else's care.Management is responsive and flexible. They communicate efficiently via email/text/phone, and appointments run on time and are over within the expected time frame. My dog always has a gigantic smile on her face when she's leaving the groomer, and it's clear that Anthony loves her as much as she loves him.To put into perspective how much we appreciate Masterpiece, my husband and I moved to Arlington and we still drive into Capitol Hill/H St once a month for grooming because it is worth it for the peace of mind and quality of service.

I had been searching fro a great groomer for over two years when I finally came across Masterpiece. They are AMAZING!! the atmosphere is great, dogs are seen on an individual bases not caged and my Jaxon has the best hair cut EVER and he loves coming to get spruced up!! Lauren is our groomer and she is simply the BEST but from the work I've seen from the other groomers I don't think you can go wrong here!! If I could give 10 stars I would; I recommend them to everybody!!
