I scheduled my 12 months old poodle to get groomed 3 weeks in advance, and that was a mistake, we are NEVER going there again!1- I was told they were busy/ overbooked and the groomer I scheduled couldn’t service him, suggested I rebook and it’s not their fault the online booking is not efficient, next time I should call to schedule an appointment instead, system broken..blah blah..2-Appointment was for 12:30pm, I didn’t get him back until 6:30pm.. not sure why I they are allowed to do such thing.3-He was terrified and shaking when he came home, they kept him in a cage the whole time, he peed as soon as we stepped out of the store which tells me they didn’t take him out as they promised.4- My dog’s eyes have been red since I picked him up yesterday, his fur is uneven and short to the skin in some areas. Now I have to worry about him getting a sunburn during his outdoor birthday party tomorrow.5- I must’ve mentioned it was his birthday 4 times and I’m looking to purchase treats for his puppy friends... no recommendations were given ... I could’ve bought one of every flavor..instead I went to Amazon and got next day delivery.Ashley apologized, it doesn’t justify what this poor puppy went through for 6 hours.Too bad I live in the McLean Gardens and I pass by the store at lease twice a day, they lost a client.

This is my second time at loyal companion near cathedral Commons. The first time I was very pleased with the groomer, I think her name is Adinike (sorry if this is not the correct spelling), the second time was another groomer who did a horrible job. When I picked my dog he was so anxious that I thought OK, he is happy to see me, but apparently, he suffered there.I am so disappointed as this would have been my go to groomer. My dog's face is injured, the hair has different lengths in different part of the body, his back, probably it is the easy part and most visibly) is the only place with equal length.

I cannot rave enough about Loyal Companion groomers (the store and employees are top notch, too)! My groomer, Ashley, deserves the highest praise for taking care of my shy husky. My pup gets the de-shedding package with oil treatment for her dry skin with added nails, ears and teeth cleaning. She looks like a million dollars each time she comes out and my vet just gave me an A+ on her dental health. Plus I notice her skin is get better and better. The price is unbeatable and the quality is unmatched. I recommend Ashley and Loyal Companion to anyone with a furry friend.

Loyal Companion Cathedral has great staff who are always very helpful. I bring Murphy here for grooming always. Ashley genuinely loves the pets and it shows in the care and attention to detail whenever I bring him in and she does not rush and is very patient. She even takes care of things I may have overlooked in the pre-appointment briefing. Murphy always comes back looking radiant and feeling happy band its clear he has truly enjoyed the experience. This is a place where true pet loving professionals like Ashley know how to take care of Murphy so I look forward to bringing him here always.

The grooming is AWESOME! Ashley has done our grooming the last two times and was great. We used to take our dog to another “big chain” groomer and the attention to detail just was not there. At Loyal Companion they get all of the small things such as make sure the dog is cut even, nail grind is done well, paws are trimmed very well and the face is done. Highly recommend.

I took my dog for a full bath and they shaved his normally beautiful tail w/o my authorization. I called them and they said a manager would reach out. Crickets. Since I posted this the manager called my wife and they refunded the $84.

This is a top notch facility to get your dog groomed. Both Ashley and Ynique are the best groomers I’ve experienced in my over 20 years of being a pet parent. They are so friendly, prompt and fantastic at what they do!! I HIGHLY recommend them both!!

I was taking care of my daughter's very sick cat, I didn't have a car and I didn't know the city. I was so happy to find Loyal Companion just a couple of blocks away. The women in the store were so helpful. The poor cat wouldn't eat and couldn't have the antibiotic without food! The store has a choice of bone broths that were exactly what I needed. I could get a teaspoon, then a tablespoon of the broth into the kitty's tummy and we got her on the antibiotic and on the road to recovery. As she was feeling better they suggested a couple of possible canned foods that were gentle on her tummy and kept her hydrated. I'm grateful they were there for my grandcat!

We are so pleased with the grooming services at Loyal Companion Cathedral. We adopted a Great Pyrenees, Rio, in August. He is very big and has a LOT of fur and he is shy. We have had him groomed three times at Loyal Companion and have been happy every time. In particular, our most recent grooming, with Ashley, was great. Rio continues to be shy about being dropped off and Ashley was super patient and took such good care of Rio. He looks beautiful AND when I picked Rio up I could tell that he felt safe with Ashley and that is a great feeling as a dog owner! We will be requesting Ashley as our groomer for our next visit!

I am a regular at the Loyal Companion at Cathedral Commons and they are the best! The staff are friendly, profession and most importantly, super helpful and knowledgeable about pets. They give great advice when it comes to products for my dog and have even saved me vet visits by their knowledge. The prices are generally comparable (sometimes cheaper) than if you were to buy it online and I like that I can support a local business. Thank you to the wonderful staff!

Ashley did a terrific job on our dog's bath and haircut grooming. Our dog often comes back from grooms looking too short or two shaggy in spots, and Ashley really hit the mark! Plus, the price is highly competitive -- way less than the mobile groomers and the other place we've gone in DC.

Took our dog Sonny here for the first time for grooming. Had a fabulous experience with Ashley, Sonny seemed so much happier coming out of loyal companion then his lost groomer. And looked fabulous. Definitely bringing him and our other doggie back.

We love Loyal Companion! It is our "go to" neighborhood pet shop. This is also where we get our Cockapoo groomer, and take our Dachshund for nail trims and other upkeep. They both love it here, and are always excited to see the staff and the groomers. We usually go to Ashley or Younique and they do a great job. Ashley did a wonderful job fixing our cockapoo after my fiance decided to cut his face hair himself. He completely butchered his little haircut, and Ashley did a great job fixing him up to look cute again. The fact that our dogs are excited to go there to get groomer truly shows you how well they treat the animals there. Love this place, and highly recommend.

They are awesome! My dog drags me there probably about three times a week. So often, in fact, that one of the clerks taught him to shake just during our visits. The staff is friendly and helpful, and doesn't (seem) to mind that my dog would loiter there for hours. They're very knowledgeable about the products and helped me find a better dog food after my pup showed some sensitivity to potatoes. No hard selling, and just a truly wonderful staff.

Always have loved the store no matter how many name changes, but my Shih Tzu had her first cut from there and it was great. She was very nervous going in, but was very relaxed and even more cute, cut, and clean when I went to pick her up.

If you want your dog to be SAFE, don’t go in this store. I’ve been coming to the store for a while because I live in the neighborhood. I will never take my dogs back again after today. The incident today was not the first time this has happened but it’s the last time I allow it and last time I go without saying something. The store opens at 10 AM, I was the only one who went in right when it opened with my two dogs. There was one girl working. While I was in the back of the store, a woman came in through the front door, which I didn’t realize until I saw the woman’s large German Shepherd had run right over to my two dogs near the back. Just as the dogs went to sniff one another for a normal greeting, the German Shepherd went berserk and started barking and lunged aggressively at my dogs. Both of my dogs were on a leash, which I had firmly in my hand, so I was able to pull them away and I started to step forward to put my body between the German Shepherd and my dogs. The owner of the German Shepherd ran over and got her dog’s leash in her hand and we separated them. I want you to understand that the reason I’m not coming back to the store is not because of that part of the story. It’s how the store employee responded. During this entire incident she did not look up once from the cashier where she was on the phone (note: not her personal phone, the store line, but no diff in outcome for us). I went to check out right away. Maybe the employee didn’t realize it at all, right? Maybe she’s used to dogs barking and it didn’t catch her attention while she was on the phone, right? She got off the phone. I was so confused at the store employee’s nonchalant attitude toward someone who came in ignoring the rules and let their dog run in off leash. So I asked, “does that lady work here?” She said no. I was still bewildered and I couldn’t wrap my head around it to even give her my phone number so that I could check out. I said oh it’s just that’s not the first time this has happened. So then I asked the store employee, “do you guys usually let people come in with their dogs off leash like that?” Her response was completely underwhelming. First, I’m a customer, there should’ve been an apology - even the most fleeting, inconsequential kind somewhere in what she said in response. She said “yeah we don’t really allow it, there’s a sign on the door but you know it’s a public place, there are leash laws in the city.” What?! We got out of there while I’m still thinking “it’s a public place,” no, it’s YOUR store. The store that you are managing right now and that you are responsible for. If you slip and fall in a grocery store and sue the store for not picking up a liquid accident in an aisle, the store can’t say “it’s a public place.” Public means outside or in common areas where there is no duty of ordinary care. If she had just said anything like “yeah that lady shouldn’t have had her dog off leash, I’ll mention something to her when she checks out,” I would’ve been 100% satisfied. Heck, you don’t even have to say anything to her, it’s you making me feel better about what happened that matters. That’s how you keep customers. But it was how the employee just didn’t care at all that jarred me and is why I will not take my dogs back there again. Going to Giant and leaving my dogs tied up out front would’ve been better. The end.

As others say, great selection & wonderful staff. They have a bin for donations to local animal shelters. Watch out for when they have a artist in. We got a great painting of our dog & the price was very reasonable, as pet portrait prices go.
