My first impression of this store was that it appeared similar to Dollar Tree, which makes sense since Dollar Tree owns FD. The frozen food section has many of the same exact items as DT, all marked at $1.25, but that's where the similarities end. The prices here are significantly higher than DT, and while one can argue that there are more brand name things here and that's why they're more expensive, we're not talking about a few cents more but rather dollars more. For example, Doritos: $3.50 - $5.00 per bag, which is more than any main stream grocery store on sale. If I'm going to buy chips or other brand name items (which I prefer generic at say Walmart), I'll wait for sales and buy them where I know they're fresh. And eggs here were $2.20/per dozen for medium sized eggs: way more than Aldi's large size dozen eggs. It's not a remarkable dollar type store, and for that reason I won't be back.

Saturday, 2/16 @ 9:21am .... arrived in the parking lot to see a customer attempting enter the store via front and only door. The 'in' door was locked. She waited a few mins, then knocked on the door, nothing. Knocked on the window, nothing. I called the store the store, no answer. Meantime, another 2 people experienced the same thing. I decided to shop at the hair store next door first and then try again afterwards. As I'm leaving the hair store I see Family Dollar is finally open because an employee walked out the "out" door. I enter Family Dollar around 9:30am..... I look around, find my items, then make my way to the register. I end up speaking with a manager as she rings me up. I inquire about the store opening late. She states they opened on time. I mention the front door being locked. She states, in between her personal phone call, that they were open and she didn't know what I was talking about. I asked how can a store be open if the front door is locked. I told her she lost business from a total of 3 customers. I watched people wait 4-5 mins and then evenutually leave. Her response .... nothing. She continued with her personal call on her iPhone. The store was a messy and there were no staff on the floor to assist. I don't typically shop at this location but I had a very disappointing experience this morning. The store located downtown Waterbury on South Main Street is much more friendlier and cleaner even with the constant threat of shoplifting and foot traffic. However I will try this Wolcott Street location one more time as today may have just been a bad morning for this manager. But today was definitely a 1 star experience.
