The store is filthy. The seafood area smells bad. Check expiration dates (many expired products). Very small selection of products compared to other local grocery stores, especially for gluten-free. E. Main S&S is much better! Too much riff raff outside always pan handling & wanting money, cigarettes, etc... Avoid this store, drive to Big Y, Market 32, S & S up the hill, or a discount grocer. Its worth it in the end

Interesting that they have so many positive reviews a month ago. I wonder who is writing them. They must not be real customers. This place has empty shelves, bad attitudes from employees, smelly fish department, and never have certain things in produce, parsley, etc. I got so fed up I left my cart filled with items and walked out. Went to another market. You walk in there and get depressed. Just go across town to other markets. It's breath-taking how stocked they are.

Not nearly as great as big Y. In town. Stop & Shop has a lot of catching up to do. Until they can compete with Big Y down. And in many areas. From cleanliness to the amount of food stock all the way down to. Management.

Sale prices are left up making one believe that they are getting the item on sale when actually it's full price. Another thing is expiration dates. Pay close attention I'm always finding expired products. Just bought a Cores drink it was expired and had mold in it. Terrible store.

The Stop and Shop on High Street in Torrington, Bakery and Floral team went out of their way for me today! A huge thank you to Tofi, and a few other wonderful people in the Bake Shop, for all of your kindness and assistance this morning. I live out of state (MA) and with today's world it can be so hard to meet in the middle when it comes to planning out of state events! Great customer service and willingness to go above and beyond and thanks to you all, my daughter's Baby Shower will be all that much more enjoyable.

I would give this place zero stars. I just got a bag of oranges, a bunch of bananas and a box of organic grapes. Every one of them was covered in mold in 2 days. The grapes had black mold visible in the bunch if you opened it and moved them. This has been happening with every fresh fruit/vegetable I've purchased there in the last month. I do most of my shopping at S&S, but not any more. Looks like Big Y and Market 32 only from now on. You lost a huge amount of money from me monthly, Slop and Plop.

This location needs a complete overhaul of the store and management. The produce section is rampant with mold. You can smell the seafood section as soon as you walk in. Even the cracker barrel, individually wrapped cheese sticks, had mold. I usually do most of my shopping there but will have to start going to other stores. I would give negative stars if I could.

I just watched a deli worker drop two raw chickens ON THE FLOOR and then put them right in the rotisserie oven. I'm guessing this must be a common occurrence because she did it right in front of customers. This is what happens when a company only cares about profit, they are obviously trained to do this kind of thing.

The employees are treated terribly by the managers, the heavy sense of dread and negative energy is suffocating. They only have one or two cashiers at any time and that has to be way too stressful and unfair to them and putting all of the pressure on them. Their produce is always punctured, scarred, gashed, rotting, moldy, and I've even seen fruit fly colonies inside of their fruits! Absolutely disgusting store with absolutely disgusting management. They need to treat their employees better and inspect their produce thoroughly and more often!

This Stop & Shop could use an update. One of the biggest issues is how the employees dress. Some type of uniform that is kept clean, or easily replaced by the store might help. I've also had issues with deli meat only lasting for one or two days. Especially hot dogs from the showcase. They're all fixable issues. I've started shopping at the new Stop & Shop on East a main Street.UPDATE 12/12/2021:The store has been cleaned up significantly. The associates are wearing matching shirts and pants. They replaced all of the bathroom stalls with stainless steel indestructible and graffiti proof stalls. They upgraded the handicapped accessible bathroom sinks, mirrors and stalls to code. And the men's bathroom is much cleaner, and safer.They have COVID safeguards in place at the register's and customer service desk.They're doing much better all around!

Place was clean, people were friendly. I have no problems with bringing my service animal in the store, but 1 major issue that is very disgusting is their bathrooms, it looks like no one cleaned it for months, it should be cleaned hourly. If the health department came in and saw the bathroom I am pretty sure they be fined.

Jess in Self Check and Jess in Customer Service are both very friendly, efficient, and funny! They helped me during my recent shopping trip for a birthday breakfast, which had me in a spin! Jess in Customer Service is always there, every week, when I get my money order..she has a smile (even behind the mask) and a great attitude! Jess in Self Check has a great attitude as well, and was very efficient, kind, and made me laugh!Great staff!

It’s associates like Tau or Ty whatever his name is that push me to shop at other grocery retailers. Extremely rude and unprofessional.EDIT: associates aren’t helpful at all and the quality of the produce here looks like it was found on the side of the road. I’m not sure if the department has a manager or not but again the overall quality of the products and department overall is horrendous. Prices go up quality goes down

Employees don't pay attention to customers, was at deli , he called my number, told him my order, he started talking to other employees behind counter for several minutes, then forgot what I wanted, and still screwed up my order with wrong product, and double the amount that I ordered. Very disappointed, and stay with Market 32.

After searching through ALL of the grocery stores in Torrington I came up in Dustin in this store. He went out of his way and looked for pumpkin pie for me! I have NEVER gone without pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving and have no family here. I was upset that I wouldn't have pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. Thank you Dustin for completing my Thanksgiving and making sure I had my pumpkin pie! This means the world to me!

I am sad to write this. I have shopped here off and on for 25+ years. The High Street store is not looking very good. It’s less and less clean. There seems less variety, especially in vegetarian/vegan selections and the section of foreign foods. Masks are not being enforced. The bottle room and restrooms are visibly dirty, and I am often approached by pan handlers. The store is beginning to look worn down, yet prices keep going up. I wish more money was put into revamping this store and better training staff than building another stop n shop on the other side of town.

Please clean your fish section better, 9 out of ten times it smells rotten. Also why does anyone think it's a good idea to put shellfish and fish together on the same ice in the same display without any distancing or separation?

Wow, I was not surprised by the level of cleanliness of stop n shop they usually do maintain.It was the aggressive cleaning of carts and baskets.TY for going the extra mile.While most stores put multiple sanitizing boxes and hope that customers clean.Stop And Shop went proactive during Covid-19!¡!

Sometimes it's dirty, sometimes the produce is gross, some of the is help unfriendly.Watch the carts, the wind blows them ALL over the parking lot. Not everyone knows how to park in a respectful manner.They no longer sell lighters...not even the long ones for grills, etc....bummer....Sometimes the selection is limited...Winsted Stop & Shop has a bigger selection...& so far the produce department is much fresher & cleaner. They both have good bakeries.

Worst customer service behind the counter I have experienced many of times from Jess and some supervisors are so discriminating about other employee's it's disgusting. I've actually seen text messages from a supervisor names Cheryl that were sent to an employee bad mouthing another employee. Supervisors shouldn't be texting employee's. I have heard the way some supervisors speak to the employees and see the favoritism.I've called the store in the past and asked to speak to the manger of the store. I spoke to a Molly who told me she was the manager of the store. I explained to her as I was pulling in the store there were 6 cars parked in front of the store where it says no parking, I see security does nothing. I was told she would speak to the landlord and I see nothing was ever done about that. I actually refuse to even go to this location anymore and go to the other one. The employees are actually polite and so is management. It appears management cares more about employee's and customers.

This Stop and Shop always has customers without masks. They walk right in and no one says anything. There needs to be more signs and enforcement of the rules so it is safe for everyone. If you have medical conditions that prevent mask usage, I would recommend using curbside pickup or Peapod delivery.Update: It is now mid-January and I ran in to get a few items and there are STILL customers not wearing masks. Please enforce the policy. It is not fair to your employees or other customers - especially your employees as customers can leave and shop elsewhere.
