I adopted my two girls from Lucky Dog. We love Lucky Dog Refuge so much. They are doing incredible work and helping the most vulnerable. The staff is wonderful and the dogs are so loved and cared for, for as long as it takes to find them a home. I also volunteer when I can and it fills my heart with joy to be around the Lucky Dogs. If you are thinking about adding a dog to your family, go to Lucky Dog. Adopt don’t shop!

This place is the absolute best. I have been volunteering for almost a year now and always look forward to it. It’s very easy to get involved and you can sign up for shifts around your schedule. The dogs are all very cute and I love every moment spent with them. Plus they have the fashionable winter coats. The staff is also very friendly and kind. Great place to donate your time, supplies, or funds. They do such fabulous work!

When my husband and I first moved to Stamford, I started volunteering by walking dogs at LDR. It was so convenient to sign up for 1 hour shifts (or more) based on your schedule. You are paired with a pup and you walk around Harbor Point. Every dog I walked was so sweet and special!After a few months of volunteering, I fell in love with Bahama Mama and her pups! We adopted our first dog in March 2023 and he’s the perfect addition to our family.LDR is always available for any questions we have and we feel so supported by them. We can’t say enough great things about this organization - they are truly incredible!!!

I've had my Lucky Dog for a little over a year now and she's the best thing that ever happened to me! I volunteered here for a few months; one day signed up to transport a pup to an adoption event and ended up adopting and taking her home myself that day! The staff was really helpful while going through the process (took a few hours) - I was so happy that I could take her home that same day. All the pups are taken very good care of and always have all their shots etc. Lucky Dog makes the process super easy with all the proper measures in place, and I've enjoyed continuing to volunteer with them!

We found our chocolate lab Benny on Jan 10th 2022. We took him home about an hour after meeting him and having him meet our current older lab Mason . We wanted them to be close in age. Mason had a sister Sasha, who passed away a year before and she was never very exciting to be around.The way lucky dog handled the process from beginning to end was amazing. They were conscious of all details necessary.They brought him to VCA Darien to check on basic thing health. If you’re curious about more detailed things you should do your own checkup… but as a volunteer space they go above and beyond.Through their social media connection I had access to a trainer who we take hire for two weeks, and Benny is genuinely one of the happiest family dogs I’ve ever met. We are also now alfas… please don’t adopt unless you’re ready, but when you are look no further. Unbelievable and beautiful addition to our family. We loved our experience and the staff.

My husband and I volunteered at Lucky Dog Refuge for a year and a half before adopting our puppy. We took our time finding the right dog for our family since we wanted to rescue and already had 2 cats in our pack. We immediately fell in love with the mushroom litter and the little fluffy runt, Chanterelle - now Harbor. Being a part of the Lucky Dog community and Alumni is so special, and we love that we can still volunteer, connect with other alumni and Harbor's siblings. We don’t have enough good things to say about Lucky Dog, the staff are incredible and their care for these animals is unmatched. We are so grateful to be a part of this community and to have our sassy baby girl, Harbor!

My dog came to Lucky Dog via its relationship with Soi Dog rescue in Thailand, and I do not think *I* could be luckier - Lucky Dog shows how broad and caring its mission is by making the Herculean effort to bring rescues like my Dash (formerly Nongnoomnin) from such a distance. He is a happy boy, challenging himself by crossing streams and climbing near-vertical slopes on the mountains near our house, and still hunts for Thai freshwater crabs in Hudson Valley mountain streams! He is beloved by anyone who meets him - a friend even used a sleepy photo I shot of Dash for his Christmas card this year. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone at Lucky Dog!

What can't I say about Lucky Dog Refuge? I have never seen a group of people who care for animals like this team does. Their open minded, practical approach meets dogs and adoptive families where they are. There is no forced fit here. They are focused on finding long term, loving connections between families and pets.On top of that? They're so fun! The dogs live in a "home style" refuge that allows them to leave the stress of kennels and shelters behind as they learn the skills and manners that will set them up for success in their forever home. The staff is nurturing, patient, and give these lucky dogs the structure and attention they need to thrive. We! Love! Lucky Dog!

Lucky Dog Refuge is where we got our sweet rescue, Lolly! They were so involved and thorough through the adoption process and so incredibly kind. They offered all sorts of recommendations and took care of Lolly like she was one of their own. While we waited for her to arrive from Mississippi, we got photos of her too! Jessica made the experience amazing and I recommend Lucky Dog to anyone I can.

Lucky Dog Refuge!!!I hope this review relays how absolutely fantasticLucky Dog Refuge is!!!!From the first returned call, I knew this group was different!!I was looking to add a new family member, to my already existing14 yr old mix Cinder, and 14 month old Rottie Kaya. So with the age difference was important to get the right fit.I felt a young adult female bully breed would be best, based on my experience, and lifestyle.Jessica, from Lucky dog wanted to know what I was looking for, and she evaluated my situation and had a few suggestions as well as the pups I had seen online, they were all wonderful, however one stood out and I was hopeful she would choose us as well!Jessica, Lauren and Anastasia met with me several times once I felt I had found our new family member Mona!!They met me at Lucky dog a few times with my 2, for a meet and greet. Then they brought Mona to my house for another, not just once but twice. I’m in Ossining NY, about 35 minutes away.They took the time not just to make sure Mona would be ok, but also the genuine concern about Cinder, due to her age. We took the time that was needed, to give this the best chance possible!I’d say they went “above and beyond” but truth is I believe this is their business as usual, it’s always above and beyond, they truly are an amazing group!!Jessica would check in on how things were going and of course I’d send her some pics and video of the progress of the kids…..Probably way to many, it’s 2 months later and I’m still sending them, and Jessica always replies with genuine interest.They are professional, accommodating and above all the love they shower the dogs they are responsible for as well as my 2, was a terrific experience!!Mona is a loving, smart, playful girl and a ridiculous snuggler!!!!!THANK YOU ALL!!!!!Cinder🐾,Kaya 🐾Mona🐾& Stephen

I had a great experience adopting a senior pup at lucky dog. The staff were extremely prompt, knowledgeable about the dog, and friendly. The facility itself is homey and welcoming and a short drive from NYC / right off the Stamford train line. The people here truly care about the dogs and finding a good fit for both parties. I would adopt again from here in a heartbeat. Thank you!!

The volunteers at Lucky Dog are some of the most incredible people on earth! This rescue specializes in rescuing dogs with special needs that would otherwise be put down (i.e., dogs that need big surgeries that cost lots of $$). I had signed up to foster with them and they were excellent- they gave me all of the resources and information needed in order to provide the best possible care for my pup! Jessica was incredibly responsive and would literally drive to my house to drop off supplies.We wound up foster failing and adopting our foster puppy, and we could not be happier that his life was spared because of this rescue. He was found as a stray with a broken leg, and Lucky Dog fundraised to pay for his surgery. I recommend Lucky Dog to everyone I know!

They do a great job of asking what you’re looking for and evaluating whether you are committed to providing a safe and loving home for their dogs. Their process includes a foster to adopt period where you get to feel everything out and make sure it’s a great fit! We enjoyed getting to know them and their process. So thankful for this team. Now I have my wonderful companion, Paloma. They made everything so easy and were so patient and kind through all of my questions. We adopted our puppy through LDR they were very helpful and friendly and provided plenty of supplies and support during the foster period. The foster to adopt is great and gives you a low pressure chance to adjust to each other before making the leap into pet parenthood. In our case the puppy we adopted was in the foster period with friends of ours and it just wasn't working out between their current dog and the foster pup, LDR was very understanding that if it doesn't work, it doesn't work and no point in forcing it. We applied for the puppy and explained we are friends and that we had met the dog and loved her. LDR did their due diligence on us and agreed to let us foster. She was a great fit into our family as a single dog household and the rest is history.

We started fostering with LDR last week and it has been an awesome experience so far. All the women on staff are phenomenal and easy to communicate with- Jessica makes everything safe & comfortable. We brought our dog to LDR to meet our foster to make sure they got along and then brought our foster home with us- along with her food, medication, and bed. She was adopted a week later to an amazing family, which made us all so happy despite missing her so much! She and our dog became best friends within an hour and they played nonstop until she left us for her forever home! Can’t wait to pickup foster #2 soon!!

I was so afraid to foster!!! I thought I would fail in the bad way but Instead we foster failed in the good way!!! We ended up adopting our furry little roomie after 3 weeks. LDR was there every step of the way. From the home visit to the drop off everything was seamless and professional. They LDR girls really care about the dogs they take in and make sure they get the perfect home. They go above and beyond. LDR is not just finding an animal a place to live but making sure they find their forever home and becomepart of a family.LDR is a pack we are proud to be a part of. We will continue to help LDR in the future by donating, visiting with our fur baby and spreading the good word about them <3
